I think I’d have chosen almost any other Boyzone or Westlife song to reheat than that...

Nice for Matt Lucas, I hope one positive side effect of all this is that music will be a bit more fun again. I’m not expecting a return to the bubblegum pop era of the late 90s but when the world is so serious all the time anyway, it would be nice if mainstream music could lighten up a bit. Most likely though we’ll get a decade of mournful acoustic strummers about isolation.

New Drake is quite good on first listen.

But it doesn’t sound multiple weeks at #1 like huge.

Top 5 peak though perhaps?


I can see Matt making an impact but not a Lad Baby #1 style one. I can see him making top 40 though.

If Matt can get the right publicity I'd have thought he could have a big sale challenging for the top. It was a pretty huge viral video last week when he put it out, it's in aid of something for which there's probably never been a more popular cause, it feels like it'd be easy to have a greater reach at the moment, and people aren't able to spend so will be more likely to be happy to bung it 99p. Plus, unlike Ladbaby's efforts I thought it was at least reasonably amusing.

The Weeknd is down to 0.39 at the moment, will need to go a lot lower than that for this Matt Lucas thing to have a hope of #1, I don't want to say it's impossible as it could do it if it gets enough publicity (likely won't even need to sell as much as LadBaby unless Drake's streaming numbers are absolutely monstrous) but I feel it's probably unlikely.

I find this new Drake song extremely bland and forgettable. Nothing really to it. It's the most boring song I've heard in quite a while and I don't see it growing on me.

LadBaby wasn't either, it's still pretty negligible in the grand scheme of things.

The Weeknd only went down to a low of 0.33 and has started gaining again now, Matt Lucas isn't coming anywhere near #1 unless the song gets significantly more of a push through the week, those are no LadBaby numbers.

The fact that Drake hasn't reached the top 10 on iTunes on release week* when sales are SO LOW on iTunes anyway, is something I never thought i'd see. Presumably all the solo Vera versions are combined, the solo Katherine versions are combined and the duet versions are combined (the credits only switch depending on whose album it appears on). There's a charity version of the duet being released this Saturday, whether that'll be combined with the other duet versions, I don't know. They could be counted separately due to the charity tag.
