Umi's Chart Highlights
  • Meghan Trainor leads an all-female top 5 once again, in only the eight week in the Hot 100's history to have an all-female top 5. Both 'Shake It Off' and 'Anaconda' are stationary at #2 and #3, with 'Black Widow' trading places with 'Bang Bang' to rise to a peak of #4.
  • The current top five ties the record for the most women (seven, thanks to featured roles) appearing in an all-solo women top five simultaneously.
  • This week marks the first time since Feb. 27 and March 6, 1999, that women hold all top five ranks in back-to-back weeks.
  • Though Meghan gains an impressive 11% of chart points, Taylor Swift gains 22% which means she may be back at #1 very soon.
  • This week's total digital track sales were 18.5 million - down -3% on last week and down -16% compared with same week last year. YTD stands at 812.3 million - down -13% on same point last year.

That'll be the end of Rita then. Will never understand why that song gained momentum for all of five minutes and then died right after!

On one hand it's nice to see so many UK and European artists on the Hot 100 but hasn't it been ages since we had a Brit at #1? Adele's "Set fire to the rain" 2+ years ago?

It is getting a bit annoying to see British artists failing to hit #1, but I'm overall happy that Sam missed out.

The song did have some airplay to be fair.

I think she'll get a big hit (i.e. top 40) in the US one day. It's inevitable really, and Black Widow will only help her, since now millions more people there will know who she is.

Seeing something as rare as an all-female top 5 happen is amazing, but any ideas how often male ones are? Probably more than once annually sad.gif

Poor Clean Bandit. Their sales are consistently strong but they just can't get that top 10 position on the Hot 100. Just got to hope their airplay picks up quicker than how fast their sales decline.

Not necessarily.

Part of her points bump was from streaming:

And that was because she tweeted about a viral video some frat boys made.

Anyone know how much Fifth Harmony's Bo$$ has sold? It's been very consistent the past few weeks.

Quite surprised at how well 'Anaconda' has been able to keep its stability. Thought it would drop to the bottom of the top ten after its initial peak!
