Manny Pacquiao has announced his retirement from the sport to focus on his political career.

The multi-division world champion, who is a senator in his native Philippines, has already announced his intention to run for president in the country's 2022 elections.

The 42-year-old's final fight was a defeat by Cuba's Yordenis Ugas in Las Vegas last month.

QUOTE
A system to manipulate the outcome of boxing matches by officials was in place at the Rio 2016 Olympics, an independent investigation has found.

Professor Richard McLaren, the head of the investigation commissioned by the sport's world governing body AIBA, said the "seeds had been sown" years before.

"Suspicious" bouts included defeats for Great Britain's Joe Joyce and Ireland's Michael Conlan.

The AIBA said it noted the investigation's reports with "concern".

The investigation also reported that qualifiers for the 2016 Games were the "practice ground" in which manipulation methods were "fine-tuned".

The investigation found there were two bouts that "caused the system to publicly collapse" - including the bantamweight quarter-final between Conlan and Vladimir Nikitin from Russia.

Conlan was the reigning world and European champion at the time, and his defeat led to public outcry after he had appeared to win the bout comfortably.

The other was the gold medal heavyweight match between Russia's Evgeny Tischenko and Kazakhstan's Vasily Levit.

The findings also call into question the final of the men's super heavyweight division between Joyce and France's Tony Yoka, in which Joyce won silver.

The investigation indicates there were approximately 11 bouts in total that were "suspicious" - and there "may be others".

David Price and Dillian Whyte believe Deontay Wilder's ego might prevent him from making the necessary changes to beat Tyson Fury in their trilogy fight.

They meet in Las Vegas this weekend with Fury, 33, making the first defence of his WBC world heavyweight title.

Wilder, 35, suffered a technical knockout defeat by the Briton 20 months ago, after their first fight was drawn.

The American made a string of bizarre excuses for the loss and Price said it was "a dangerous game to play".

Wilder, who was beaten for the first time in his professional career, claimed Fury "cheated" by tampering with his gloves and that his own ring-walk outfit was too heavy and drained him of his energy.

Whyte confirmed as challenger to Fury or Wilder. This is on the condition that AJ takes the rematch with Usyk which he’s already said he will.

American Shakur Stevenson stopped compatriot Jamel Herring in the 10th round to win the WBO super-featherweight title in Atlanta.

Unbeaten Stevenson, 24, is now a two-weight champion after dominating Herring, 35, who had retired Carl Frampton after stopping him in April.

Anthony Joshua has said he is "done with losing" as he considers a coaching shake-up following his defeat by Oleksandr Usyk.

Joshua, who lost the WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight titles to Ukrainian Usyk, told iFL TV he was ready for "war" as he prepares for a potential rematch.

"I'm done with losing. I'm done with trying to learn the sweet science," Briton Joshua, 32, said.

"[Usyk] might get thrown on the floor in the next fight because this is war."

He added: "I'm heading into my 12th world title fight now and the learning is done. It's done. It's just war. I'm annoyed. I'm boiling up just speaking about it."

Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez made history in Las Vegas by beating Caleb Plant to become the first undisputed world super-middleweight champion.

The 31-year-old knocked out Plant in the 11th round to unify all four major belts in fewer than 12 months.

Mexican Alvarez added Plant's IBF belt to the WBA Super, WBC and WBO ones he already held.

He knocked the American down twice in the 11th - first with a left hook and then followed it with a right uppercut.

Dillian Whyte's heavyweight world title ambitions have suffered a setback with the WBC failing to order champion Tyson Fury to fight him next.

Whyte was expected to be named as the mandatory challenger to Fury's WBC belt, a title he retained with an eleventh-round knockout of Deontay Wilder in October.

However, the WBC indicated Whyte's legal battle - thought to focus on his frustrations at not getting a title fight - means they cannot officially call for the mandatory defence.

Chris Eubank Jr's all-British middleweight fight with Liam Williams in Cardiff has been moved to 29 January after the Welshman picked up an injury.

The bout was scheduled for 11 December, but Williams aggravated a shoulder injury sustained during his loss to Demetrius Andrade in April.

"We were absolutely gutted to hear of Liam's injury and so we are equally delighted to get this fight back on, in a matter of weeks, to ensure Liam's 100% fitness," promoter Ben Shalom said.

"The bitterness and mind games towards each other has only intensified during this period, and by the time they get into the ring it will be at boiling point. I'm glad the fans will get the chance to see the fight that they desperately wanted."

The entire Cardiff fight card moves to the new date which includes American star Claressa Shields. The middleweight unified champion was due to make her UK debut before an undisputed fight with WBO champion Savannah Marshall next year.

Anthony Yarde gained revenge on Lyndon Arthur with a spectacular knockout performance in their light-heavyweight rematch at London's Copper Box Arena.

Yarde was a changed man from the one beaten convincingly by Arthur a year ago, setting a ferocious pace and landing hard shots from round one.

A game Arthur was forced into survival mode immediately. But he was eventually dropped in the fourth round under a flurry of eye-catching hooks from Yarde, succumbing to the first defeat of his career.

Former IBF featherweight champion Lee Selby is set to fight Gustavo Lemos in a final eliminator to face George Kambosos Jr for his lightweight titles.

Australian Kambosos stunned American Teofimo Lopez on a split decision in New York last week to hold the WBA, WBO and IBF lightweight belts.

Selby lost a split decision to Kambosos at Wembley Arena in October 2020.

But the 34-year-old will become the IBF mandatory challenger if he overcomes unbeaten Argentinian Lemos, 25.

Conor Benn beat Chris Algieri in four rounds with a wonderful knockout display in Liverpool.

The 25-year-old Briton produced a calm and clinical performance against American former world champion Algieri.

He showed off some superb body shots and ended the fight with a straight left, right combination.

Benn remains undefeated with the 20th win of his career and is one step closer to a world title shot at welterweight in 2022.
