The Moment You Believe
I Want Candy
awww, cool! *excited*!
It will flop
i cant wait, love mel, shes great but it wont do well unfortunately
Jess looks slutty in your sig and it will only flop because she is releasing that awful candy song first.. why would you do that? it is an obvious flop
I agree, she looks trampy She looks better in the main pic in this weeks hotstars (inside OK!)
Candy will be c**p, but on the whole I think she produces great music, so I'll get it. I agree it will flop though, because people just don't seem interested anymore?
im looking forward to the new mel c album asi have enjoyed all 3 previous albums of hers
British snobbery
Beautiful Intentions is an amazing album and so will this one
I do like Mel C but I didnt like her last album. It had a much harder sound and I dont think it appealed in the same way to many of her fans. I hope with this new album she has changed direction to more of a pop/uptempo sound. Her first two albums were fantastic and both showed her to be the best solo spice girl.
she is by far the best solo spice girl in my opinion,i agree the 3rd album wasnt as good as her first 2 i would love this album to have the soundof her second album which is my fave album by her
The album will flop in the UK, but it'll more than likely be in the top five in Germany and other big European countries.
IWISH SHE DID as well in the uk as she does in some european parts like germany etc but wasnt she big in portugal also
hope she does well.
Nooooooo
Everytime I think of "This Time" I think of JoJo
Oh well
Maybe "This Time" won't flop...
a c**p title
She is the best solo spice girl but this is a flop in the bag tbh
Prefer Emma
all the spicies solo material is flop material now and saldy will be in the future there solo careers have come to an end really so the only thing is reform do the g hits tour and album then they mightenjoy some solo success again
Don't know if i'll be buying this, I really wasn't keen on Beautiful Intentions.
New video for 'The Moment You Believe' added in first post.
I it!! Hope she can have some success with it! Unfortunetly I think 'I want candy' will completely ruin her chances if it is the first UK single. Terrible idea. I was a big spice fan, and a Mel C fan, but I can't stand 'I want candy' and I've only heard like 20 seconds of it. I never want to hear it again though!
amazing! i really hope 2007 brings her much deserved success
Great song and video!
Hope it'll do great for Melanie!
she had a great success with Beautiful Intention across Europe!
I really like her, ill probably buy it hope she does well
Love the video & song
I can't stop watching it - I love it!!
Great video, love it
We should get The Moment You Believe
Apparently Mel C is on Al Murray's Happy Hour tonight at 10.15pm.
I'm presuming she'll perform "I Want Candy".
I have to admit that I quite like 'The Moment You Believe' and besides 'First Day Of My Life' and 'Next Best Superstar' I don't normally like her stuff however, whilst I haven't yet heard The UK single 'I Want Candy' to be honest I can't see her being succesful.
She was good on Al Murray last night. I was expecting I Want Candy to be terrible, but it worked quite well. It was nice to see her doing something fun, but I can't see it being a big hit for her, or the right song to launch an album.
i can't wait for the album, i will definetly be buying it!
Live performance of 'I Want Candy' added
She seams to alternate from at the start singing about a guy to singing about a girl for the rest of it. Also has she had a nose job?
I think she has, she always had a weird nose, but no more!
ive just heard i want candy, what the f*** is she releasing this for she needs to have original material not no cover, this will not do well at all!
i think its good not her best by far but wont do great either
'The Moment You Believe' sounds pretty average tbh - she needs something a lot stronger if she wants another UK Top 10 single. 'Next Best Superstar' was a brilliant comeback single but i thought the rest of the album was a bit of a let down... and based on the lead single i don't hold high hopes for the new one!
i think shes made a big mistake with this cover as the lead single. if next best superstar can only reach 10 then what hope is their for the single, let alone the album.
single will prob be a lower top 40 hit album top 75
I like the song... it's nice, pleasant, listenable... but I've all but lost hope of Mel releasing another amazing song. I think she ran out of idea's after writing Northern Star if I'm honest, but as always I hope she has success with this as she's definitely the most talented Spice.
I like the first song, but I'm not too crazy about I Want Candy.
Look out for 'IWC' video on the music channels this week. Also it will up on Melanie's website tomorrow afternoon.
I just saw the ITC video
its nice
shame the song isnt! Why didnt we get TMYB?
I like the IWC video but i hate the song.. what a stupid idea.. surely she knows that it will flop or is she thick?... looks like the spice tour will be on ..
may flop in uk but i can see her doing ok in europe, thats where her last album sold for her and made her a few quid
She has a voice like chainsaw... she can't handle such a song...
'I Want Candy' video added.
Front cover for the album added.

Love the first song! Not sure about the 2nd one ...
IWC = DIRGE
Her voice, her look, her style. It SCREAMS flop. This is truely atrocious.
Edit: Tracklistings for album and single added
From listening to the clips on her website I think I'm gonna love this album.
Carolyna and Forever Again are my favourites so far (from what I've heard of them) - it will probably change when I've heard all the whole album in full.
Just seen that IWC is the 10th most selected pre released video on Box Breakers on The Box music channel
I really like Mel C but I like Candy is complete garbage.
Disappointed.
^Its called I WANT candy lol
Hmm well its really good i think but i seem to be in the minority. I think it wont perform too well but it does deserve to, its a fun song and Melanie's is the best version if it BY FAR!
i love this to be a big hit for her she deserves it
'I Want Candy' out today!!!
Available on CD, 7" and download.
Hope it does well. She's allright, Mel C.
Her voice is lovely and u gotta admire her independence.
Hopefully her album and single will be good. Whatcha think of I Want Candy?
http://www.ilikemusic.com/home/Melanie_C_I_Want_Candy_single-3575
It's quite nice and uplifting, but a bit 'basic' I prefer Understand, lovely intro.
Bez x
It's gonna be a major flop.
top 30 would be respectab;le for mel after the recent emma flop
Well....I'm a Mel C fan and I won't be buying 'I want candy'....I am thinking it will be a big flop! Looking forward tot he album though!
I've downloaded 'IWC' and have pre ordered the album - I'm really looking forward to it.
I think it's really silly that she is releasing the album a week after 'IWC' She should of released after another single at least
Midweeks are in. IWC is top 25!!!
i hope the album at the least gets top 30 but im not confident
For all those saying IWC will flop...its at #4 on CD sales atm
Good for Mel, cuz top 25 is better than I thought it would be .
Looking forward to the album, but is it just me that hates the cover? What is Mel C wearing? It looks terrible!
Im glad its Top 25, its higher than I thought, but if the single can only manage that then I don't even wanna think where the albums gonna enter.
I loved 'Reason' and 'Northern Star', and there was some good songs on 'Beautiful Intentions' . I'm hoping the new album is a bit more back to the 'Reason' type stuff .
Mel was great when I saw her live in Oxford once (for the Reason tour)....I was front row and got some fab pictures !
Top 25 is a pretty good result, about what I was expecting. It'll fall by Sunday if anything- it's not really the type of song to attract casual buyers.
i hope the new album i sback to the reason material also as that is my fave mel c album, lets go was a brilliant track on that album that should have been a single,
i want candy is doing better than i thought it would but as a mel c fan the more i hear the song the less i like it,its not elling with me at all
well I never go into a shop and look at covers, I go for the music
HMV have shipped the album today. Should get by Saturday.
Really looking forward to this album!!
The album leaked days ago people.
I've downloaded it but haven't listened to it yet. I've been a bit put off since PopJustice completely panned it.
LOL They know fukc all. Judging by the clips it sounds brilliant.
The whole album has leaked now, not just the clips....
i never take notice of anything PJ says
shall be getting it sometime next week can't wait
'This Time' the album is OUT NOW.
^Too right, go and buy it guys, if youre a fan!
I bought my copy today. Love it. Well worth £10.
What is everyone thinking for the midweek position ?
I think midweek around #35, and falling to around the 50 - 60 region by Sunday.
midweek top 50...or top 40 if its lucky
Hoping top 30 for midweek!!
I'll be buying this either Thursday or Saturday ! Just re-discovered 'Beautiful Intentions' over the weekend. Didn't like it that much when it came out, but absolutly love it now!!!
The albums Top 40 in the mids, shes 200 copies ahead of no.40 And also I want candy is no.7 in the physical chart downloads let her down big time!
To everyone who has got the album - what are your favourite tracks?
I love Forever Again, Carolyna, Your Mistake, Protected, This Time.
I think on the whole this is a great album, it has a great feel to it.
Can't wait to get it! Which album do you think 'This Time' is closest to in terms of sound? (i.e. Northern Star, Reason or Beautiful Intentions)
I think it will just miss the top 40 come Sunday stalling at about 42 or 43.
I haven't got the album yet but I love This Time
I hope it does end up top 40 - that would be good.
i went to buy it today and Tesco had none left, the cheek
Hope youre going to get it from somewhere else?
I'm hoping the place I'm in on Thursday (Chatham) has a record shop - never been before so no idea what the shopping is like there . If not Thursday I will be getting it Saturday as I'll definitely be near shops then!!!
I'm really excited to get it as I haven't really listened to any clips (apart from the singles) so it will be all new to me ! If it's like Reason then I will love it !
its only low top 40 in midweeks i hope it doesnt drop out of the top 40 by sunday
Apparantly it's dived to the bottom of the Top 50 in the midweeks now.
Such a shame, I think it's easily her best album since 'Northern Star'... it's so good
i was hoping it would stay top 40,i hope it doesnt drop and drop ove rthe weekend also
This Time has entered the German top 100! As in the song lol, so maybe it'll be single number 2!
the album will do well in europe like beautiful intentions did
Beautiful Intentions has grown on me so much now, it was a slow burner initially. I love You Will See.
ya i agree its not an instant album but neither were any of her albums for me they all grew on me alot
Reason was a slow grower for me, whereas BI was instant.
Shall finally get to listen to This Time tomorrow
I absolutely love this new album - Beautiful Intentions was a bit rocky for me and this new album reminds me of her first album.
Some of the songs are really beautiful!!!
I listened to "I want candy" yesterday and it totally turns me off!
I want Candy is not a good indication for the album - none of the other tracks are like this. Thats why its only on there as a bonus track. The other songs are more like the first album 'Northern Star'
number 57 was a disappointing chart position i wonder what the sales were
Who knows but I think she really cant rely on the UK anymore, its a good job shes big in Europe...she can only have sold about 4k here so far. I really hope Carolyna or Understand push album sales up - have you got the album?
its top 90 in the midweeks for this week album will be very lucky to sell 10,000 at this rate
Unless Carolyna can save it
yeh corolyna is brill!!
Just listening to the radio, and the DJ said he feel sorry for her because her last song did bad, so he played 'baby when you're gone' and said she gets £15 for it. I didn't know you got that much if they played your song!
Well even with all that thats still like £3 for herself...every time they play a track!!! Goshhhh
2nd single confirmed on Mel's website as Carolyna
I heard this album the other. Very disappointing. Alot of the tracks sounded the same and were quite dull. Nothing really stood out apart from the very first song on the album and the beautiful "the moment you believe".
You mean 'Understand'. The album needs more than one listen but This Time and Carolyna are very instant too.
the album is starting to really grow on me now like Nerina Pallot's did last year
Understand, I Want Candy, Don't Let Me Go, This Time, The Moment You Believe, Carolyna, Protected
like all of mel c album they take time to mature and the songs grow on each listen
I'm really liking Out Of Time now. Didn't care for it much when I heard the clip but now I can't stop playing it!! Same with May Your Heart.
Your Mistake has grown on me so much! Its in my personal chart this week!
[hint]Visit personal charts forum and look at mine![/hint]
How come there's no This Time album thread? It's the only original album not to have one.
It's been exactly 16 years since the album was released. What are your favourite songs from the album / era?
There is one here: http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=31351 / During the project of making album threads (creating topics for albums that were released before BuzzJack was opened in 2006) we ended up doing a new thread for Emma’s Life in Mono, even though an original topic from 2006 existed. I think there was a plan to open a fresh This Time thread, but for whatever reason we forgot to do it! I don’t mind if we just bump that original This Time thread for discussion (we did this for The Sea & Version of Me album topics anyway). I may as well move our posts to that thread (I’ll do that when I’m next on my computer, it’s a bit fiddly on a phone!).
Honestly I like This Time more than a lot of fans seem to! Forever Again, Your Mistake and May Your Heart are my favourite album tracks. 16 years, oh my. I remember buying the CD in HMV during lunchtime when I was at college. Sadly I was only one of maybe 4500 people in the country to get it that week lol.
I'd take Already Gone and Fragile over all of This Time but then I don't like most of the album. Already Gone is brill though.
I lost Melanie C from Reason to Version of Me (although I loved Anymore).
This Time is like a thousand sleeping pills.
Oh I forgot the moment you believe I love that one too even if I think it sounds out of place on the album (not as much as I want candy though which I just don't like at all).
The album is certainly very lost, it has some lovely tracks but it doesn't really work as a collection, it could do with a re-jig in tracklisting and again the B-side were stronger than some album tracks. I wonder if the record company in Germany pushed for the inclusion of tracks like The moment you believe and protected and Immune after the success of FDOML?
I think this order flows better
1. Understand
2. Already gone
3. This time
4. Fragile
5. We love to entertain you
6. Carolyna
7. Your mistake
8. Don't let me go
9. Out of time
10. What if I stay
Leave out protected and the moment you believe because they don't really work in the album (they can be the b-side and stand alone single as it did quite well for her in Europe), Immune I don't think is necessary so scrap it. Short and sweet.
Not you leaving out my two favourite This Time album tracks x
Forever Again!
1. Understand
2. Already gone
3. This time
4. Fragile
5. We love to entertain you
6. Carolyna
7. Your mistake
8. Forever again
9. Don't let me go
10. Out of time
11. What if I stay
Re-edit!
We love to entertain you is pants. Was Rock Me not part of TT too, another Mel C song I cant stand. This Time was probably the low point musically for me following Mel C (I'm pretending Stages doesn't exist).
Rock Me was The Sea era!
I was not impressed with the album at first now I enjoy It more. It has lovely ballads.
As someone who tends to enjoy more upbeat/club-type music, I quite enjoy This Time. It's very easy listening, and I find it a pretty cohesive body of work. It tends to get trashed left, right and center on this forum, however, the one consensus critique I do agree with is that 'Already Gone' and 'Fragile' belong on the album; they are most definitely not b-side material. Looking at you, 'Forever Again.'
I also always thought Fragile would have been such a lovely title for the album too... This Time has always been so meh as an album title for me especially following Northern Star, Reason and Beautiful Intentions which are all great titles.
I think there are lovely songs on the album I just don't think they work together really, whether that be the tracklist order or not I'm not sure.
Anyway Fragile is not only a b-side... It's part of the swedish tracklist edition
I love this album. For my taste it's her best work, the best melody. I only skip Understand and Out of Time that i don't like. I would have prefer paris Burning in it.
A lot of the album was very clearly knock offs of similar songs. Understand is very Coldplay, Carolyna is very Red hot chili peppers, The moment you believe is a knock off of FDOML, the song with Guy was very Robbie B-side.
Non of the album screams Mel C as an artist just Mel C trying to get a hit.
I have to agree Protected sounds nothing like anything I've heard Robbie do, that one is reaching a bit. Also FDOML sounds nothing like TMYB either, they are just both ballads is all otherwise not similar in any way whatsoever.
I do agree that Understand has a Coldplay feel to it and Carolyna has a Red Hot Chilli Peppers feel to it, but these aren't bad things as they are still great songs, and there are tons of songs that are inspired by others out there.
TMYB sound like Have a Little Faith.
I do love the Alternate version of Understand and Carolina better than the album version.
I'll check these out later!
The biggest U turn on a song ever is IWC. I remember many Mel C fans were sure it was top 3 material with the film and video and Mel showing a more fun side with a fun song.
Then it tanked and they hated it and it was the wrong song.
I also don’t remember any fan predicting a top 3 placement for it on mc.net or denden!?
I do remember some fans being more receptive to the song in the beginning and then going off it when it tanked. I also remember some fans going off her when she revealed that song initially, I had 4 on instant messenger who didn’t even bother with This Time after it.
No one loved IWC , what BS 😂😂
Yeah I don't remember I Want Candy to have had any good reception. It was panned on arrival by the large majority.
Personally it killed any buzz for the album for me.
I think the glimmer of positivity surrounding that release is that, at least for the standards of the time, its YouTube view count was quite impressive. By 2007, record labels still hadn't cottoned onto the idea of officially uploading music videos onto YouTube, for some reason... so the views were achieved with a fan upload that I assume was eventually removed.
Yeah she was #1 on Youtube or something wasn't she lol! Can you imagine how exciting that would be now!
Who on Earth thought IWC would go top 3?
I certainly don't recall seeing one person predicting that at the time, and it had disaster written all over it from the outset.
At least I Want Candy made it into the Top 10 in the physicals chart, at #7! Which certainly shows how things were changing by 2007, considering that it charted at #24 overall. First week sales of 5000.
Carolyna only made it to #14 in the physical chart despite there being a CD, 7" and DVD available (and charted at #49 in the official chart, so presumably it attracted very few downloads... gosh, Spice fans really didn't embrace the download era, unfortunately). Apparently it sold 3500 in that week, according to a source from the time. Although I have to say, that seems like oddly high sales for the position it achieved, compared to other weeks in 2007. For instance, 3 weeks later, a #32 single sold less than 3500 copies. Did Melanie C choose an oddly strong week to release Carolyna in, or could 3500 have been wrong info...
If Carolyna had been the lead single in place of I Want Candy, I wonder if it would have done better or worse?
Sadly, I think whatever she was to release was never going to chart well. It probably would have gotten the same as I Want Candy did and landed in a similar position. Carolyna wouldnt have stood a chance, sadly. I never quite got over the heavy Red Hot Chilli Peppers type of sound, it sounded dated on arrival...
I Want Candy was also a soundtrack single for a movie at the time, but that (short?) movie wasnt a very visible hit either so I dont think it did it any favours either.
Carolyna was released 16 years ago. One of the highlights on This Time.
Carolyna > the other tracks of the album.
I love this song!
Still can't believe she led with IWC when she had this and Understand on the album...
Already Gone and Fragile are arguably the best tracks from this era and they both were b-sides. Melanie 'B-Sides Are B-Sides For A Reason' Chisholm.
