Kid Cudi is back with a new single. First new solo music in ~5 years!

Posted by: Hauspital* 14th April 2020, 03:58 PM

This is a great listen. Very autobiographical as always from him and as a result the lyrics are honest and heart-breaking.

I am so happy we have the start of a new era from him!

Posted by: Cremey 14th April 2020, 04:02 PM

Knew I could count on you to post about this 🙌

I'll always have a soft spot for Cudi, and his last album was one of his best.
Really liking this on first listen too, so happy he's back <3

Posted by: Hauspital* 14th April 2020, 04:07 PM

Ignoring KIDS SEE GHOSTS (which was great in itself), his solo albums are always a wild trip. 'Passion, Pain and Demon Slayin'' is a massive favourite of mine. It, at times, reached the dizzying heights of the Man On The Moon eras (I & II).

Agreed - so happy to have him back and hopefully he is in a healthy place mentally to make music and share his story with us after all the demons that took over him sad.gif

Album confirmed to be called: Entergalactic

!!

I am fanboy SCREAMING at the title. It's honestly come full circle from Man On The Moon days!

A throwback from his masterpiece album heart.gif

Posted by: Hauspital* 18th April 2020, 12:06 AM

He has also teased a snippet of "Do What I Want" which will feature on the album.

Entergalactic will serve as the music component of Barris' upcoming adult animated series of the same name.

Information on how the album/series will work below:

QUOTE
"The idea of there's never been an album and a series dropped at the same time, so each song will have a 30-minute narrative that kind of explains what that song is about and it's a love story," Barris said during a Watch Less episode from 2019 ComplexCon. "It's a youthful love story told through Cudi's music."

Cudi told his viewers the Entergalactic album—his first solo effort since 2016's Passion, Pain and Demon Slayin—will arrive next summer. A release date for the Netflix animated series has not been announced.

This review of 'Leader of the Deliquents' sums it up perfectly:

QUOTE
Cudi continues to prove how criminally underrated his recent output is (particularly Indicud and Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin’) with a song that perfectly encapsulates all of his greatest eccentricities. “Leader of the Delinquents” is another venture into the tangled web of Cudi’s bewildered thoughts. It’s been on the back burner since 2012, which isn’t a surprise considering its vaporous background reminiscent of 2010 Kid Cudi.

The song is drenched in swagger, as Cudder pinballs between his legacy and remedial despair, hoping his iconic rage doesn’t get the best of him-“But sometimes I wanted to shoot my f***ing face off/I’m talking game over, defeated the boss/Hope with age, I can cope with my rage.” Dropping the toxic masculine stigma surrounding chronic mental health has been Cudi’s greatest contribution as an artist. He ushered in a decade filled with ostentatious personalities, Soundcloud experimentation, and genre defying acceptance. He’s always happily carry the flag as the ultimate outsider-making music for the lost souls.

Never really given Cudi's music the attention that I probably should have but am really liking 'Leader Of The Delinquents', has a v kool ~old skool~ sound to it cool.gif

(maybe that's partly because the song is 8 years old laugh.gif but yay for it finally seeing the light of day xx)

Didn't realise it had been quite so long since he last released anything in his own name!

New single with Eminem called 'The Adventures Of Moon Man & Slim Shady' coming on Friday apparently! ~

Posted by: HausofGhibli 9th July 2020, 06:28 PM

Confirmed!

I haven't liked anything from Eminem since 'Rap God' and very few songs even in the decade before that came out, but... I am hoping this changes that with Cudi's magic attached to it. We shall see ~

Posted by: Steve201 9th July 2020, 11:38 PM

Is this out yet?

Posted by: Bré 9th July 2020, 11:45 PM

Coming at 5am UK time presumably.

"The Adventures Of Moon Man & Slim Shady" is out now.

Posted by: Steve201 11th July 2020, 01:31 AM

I like the Eminem rapping regarding wearing face masks!

Posted by: HausofGhibli 13th July 2020, 05:01 PM

Eminem works so well with Cudi! The transition into his verse is so effortless and dare I say he outshines Cudi. A fan of this song too following on from Leader... and so excited for the album to fully surface.

Kid Cudi has been talking a lot recently about his mental health and the demons he has faced.

QUOTE
Kid Cudi Opens Up About Living with Anxiety and Depression: 'I Turn My Pain Into Music'

Kid Cudi is sharing a powerful message about mental health.

Ahead of the Well Beings virtual town hall event, the 36-year-old rapper opens up about his experience overcoming depression and anxiety in a new video, exclusively premiering on PEOPLE.

"When we're young, we face a lot of pressure to do things that harm us. We pretend to be happy when there's a raging violent storm inside of our heart," Kid Cudi says. "Once it was difficult for me to find the words. Anxiety and depression ruled my life for as long as I could remember. I was scared, I was sad, I felt like a damaged human swimming in a pool of emotions."

"I knew I deserved peace and to be happy, but I didn’t know how," he shares. "It took me a while to get to this place of commitment, to say I'm gonna get through this. To know that we can take our pain and turn it into something."

"I turn my pain into music," Kid Cudi says. "And my music is how I am different. And my difference is my power."

The rapper — who released "The Adventures of Moon Man & Slim Shady" with Eminem on Friday — first told fans about his struggles with mental illness in a Facebook letter posted in 2016. In the letter, Kid Cudi told his fans that he was checking himself into rehab to tackle his depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts.

“I am not at peace,” he wrote at the time. “My anxiety and depression have ruled my life for as long as I can remember and I never leave the house because of it … Its time I fix me. I’m nervous but I’mma get through this.”

After rehab, Kid Cudi spoke to Billboard about finding peace in a 2018 cover story. "I have so much joy that I don’t feel like I’m fighting anymore," the artist said. "It was this year, around my birthday [in late January]. I’m the best I’ve ever been in my life. I realized I was genuinely happy, and there’s nothing really going on in particular."

"Creating is making me happy again," he added.

Kid Cudi is scheduled to participate in the upcoming Well Beings virtual town hall hosted by the National Alliance on Mental Illness and WETA, the PBS station in Washington D.C., to launch a campaign targeting the youth mental health crisis.

It is great that he is opening up about this and dispelling the stigma associated with speaking up about mental health and depression. Also very enlightening to see how music is helping him through the process and how is starting to feel happy once more. A lot of respect for him right now.

Posted by: Bré 13th July 2020, 10:17 PM

I liked Eminem's part on this song, particularly the strong railing against anti-maskers, Cudi's parts weren't really up to too much though and the song as a whole feels a little too long-winded without having any sort of hook and not really one I'm desperate to go back to D:

Posted by: HausofGhibli 26th October 2020, 04:39 PM

Omg !!

Posted by: Cremey 26th October 2020, 04:45 PM

Just saw that! Amazing.
I didn’t like the Eminem collab at all (although I haven’t liked anything he’s been involved with for years so it wasn’t a surprise...), a third man on the moon album has me excited though 😭

Based on tiny excerpts of a few songs this is going to be absolutely AMAZING.

Posted by: Bjork 11th December 2020, 11:19 AM

a song featuring Phoebe Bridgers <3

Posted by: Michael Bubré 11th December 2020, 01:29 PM

Wow, we finally have a collab between Pop Smoke and a UK artist (albeit still not a drill artist)... and it comes via both of them featuring on a Kid Cudi song. *_*

Posted by: dandy* 11th December 2020, 03:09 PM

Listening to this now and liking it as usual - Phoebe sounds really good on Lovin' Me, they really compliment each other very well - just wish the track was longer!

That cover art too wub.gif

Part II remains one of my favourite hip hop albums ever

Part I is my favourite!

Posted by: Santa Haus 11th December 2020, 07:03 PM

OK that was an experience. Need time to digest how painfully honest and heart-breaking the lyrics were.

Ending with that chilling "to be continued..." - goosebumps at that moment mellow.gif

Intrigued as Kid Cudi has my birthdate as a track on here! Willing to give this a go even if hip-hop albums aren't usually my thing! Will try it tomorrow biggrin.gif

Also peep I and II please!!!! heart.gif

This is #1 on Apple Music and the tracks are dominating in the US too. Doing brilliantly there. In the UK, 'Show Out' is obviously the highest track!

Getting high critical acclaim from what I can see in early reviews clap.gif

How many songs is that?! cry.gif

I'm supposed to be Taylor stanning!

Posted by: Cremey 12th December 2020, 01:08 PM

Definitely give I and II a listen too!
They’re both great – I is more special to me but both are such good albums. I obsessed with them both when I first heard them heart.gif

Really liking this on first listen, definitely needs a few more listens for everything to go in but I’m just so glad we have the third part of the trilogy now after waiting a decade sob.gif

Mr. Solo Dolo III, Sept 16 and Loving Me are the early highlights.
Love She Knows This too, it’s so Travis Scott but it works?

It’s weird hearing a song like Show Off on a Cudi album ha, still not sure how I feel about that.

Posted by: Christmasteve201 13th December 2020, 03:32 PM

Must check This album out in the new year, always loved his work!

Posted by: Santa Haus 13th December 2020, 08:54 PM

'The Void' breaks my heart cry.gif

As always, lyrically, this is a masterpiece of an album! He has such an incredible way with words - through all of his pain and battles with demons and mental health strifes, he finds strength through the music. An inspiration, truly.

Posted by: Cremey 15th December 2020, 05:49 PM

Completely obsessed with this now, quickly working its way up to be one of my favourite albums of the year 😭 One of those albums I can listen to on repeat and have a different favourite each time. As you say Haus, so many honest and raw lyrics throughout. I love how much of an experience the whole Man on the Moon trilogy is.

Still early day but I actually think it’ll end up being only slightly behind MOTM I in my affections 😱
And those hums 🥰🥰🥰

Posted by: Bré 28th December 2020, 10:20 PM

This was a bit of an inconsistent listen for me (most of act 3 was frankly completely inessential, although I do like 'The Void') but have come away from it with a good handful of solid highlights, particularly loving 'Show Out' (still seems like a weird lane for Cudi to go into but it's a banger so I'm not complaining), 'Tequila Shots', 'Lord I Know' (that outro!) and 'Rockstar Knights' wub.gif and digging 'Mr. Solo Dolo III' the most out of the more mellow songs. 'Another Day' and 'Damaged' also highlights to a slightly lesser extent. Glad I gave it a listen ~ maybe I'll peep the previous MOTM albums eventually if Bal bribes me enough basil.gif

The iconatry of his 37 second intro that has nothing but hums on it becoming a Hot 100 hit tho

Posted by: dandy* 29th December 2020, 06:17 PM

Oh my, a bit off topic but the first man on the moon is going to be the record of the month in March for my subscription service! ohmy.gif wub.gif

It looks great!

W O W !!!!

I need that! Absolutely stunning <3

Posted by: Cremey 29th December 2020, 06:57 PM

OMG I NEED THAT! Do you know if it’s limited edition just for your subscription?
I need to get all three on vinyl.

Ha Bré, act III is the best act! His mellow ones are always the ones that I come back to. Sept. 16 and Lovin’ Me are two of my absolute favourites, along with The Pale Moonlight and Mr Solo Dolo III. Rockstar Nights is the only one on the whole album I’m not too keen on, really don’t like that chorus or Trippie Redd in general 🙃

Posted by: Bré 29th December 2020, 07:14 PM

Think we just agree to disagree on nearly everything you just said basil.gif idk I guess the act 3 songs are probably more likely than the rest to be growers for me but 'The Void' aside none of them are really screaming out to me as songs I care to want to revisit. I feel DEFECTIVE for not understanding the hype around Phoebe Bridgers given the acclaim she's got from people I usually agree with but I've really just not heard anything special / standout from her yet, and her appearance on here is still reaffirming that further for me unfortunately... sad.gif

I get that Trippie Redd is pretty divisive / an acquired taste~ although he's pretty restrained on this song so if you don't like even this you must really hate his other music...!

They're always initially just released to members first for subscription but if enough members swap it out then they put them up for sale on the site. They are usually about $40 plus shipping though so not cheap on their own sad.gif

Haha yeah I think we will. I think I’ll always like his more mellow ones though so that’s probably why I prefer the third act.

Must admit I only actually know Trippie Redd from this laugh.gif and just find his parts off-putting for some reason haha. You never know though, he might grow on me :’)

And thanks dandy, I’ve just found it online, think I might have to subscribe in March (maybe in Feb as the Strokes one looks gorgeous too...)

Posted by: dandy* 29th December 2020, 08:19 PM

I've found it's worth subscribing as they often choose albums that interest me - and when they don't, there's something else that I usually want to swap for like last month when I switched for Fiona Apple's Tidal. You can switch for store credit too if you really don't like anything. Plus by subscribing you get all of the other records on the store at a reduced price with free postage. Plus they usually offer limited things to members first also which means you actually stand a chance of getting one instead of sharks snapping up all the limited stuff to resell on eBay!

Posted by: Cremey 29th December 2020, 08:49 PM

Tidal wub.gif

Ha I think you’ve convinced me to subscribe, I’ve been looking through their previous records of the month and there are so many great limited edition ones. Really good that you can unsubscribe whenever too 👌🏼

Posted by: dandy* 23rd March 2021, 07:11 PM

@cremey did you get it in the end? If so... it’s beautiful isn’t it? wub.gif

Posted by: Cremey 25th March 2021, 04:39 PM

I did! Mine arrived at the weekend, so beautiful heart.gif
I love the print that came with it too.

Gutted at the Arular one announced yesterday selling out so fast! I went to get it as soon as I saw the email but it was already too late :'(
Looks like Kala will be one of the ones announced later for April though...

Posted by: HausofGucci 29th December 2021, 12:22 AM

I got this myself too and as expected it's STUNNING.

Deserved for this album which a year later is still totally sublime.

Posted by: Brer 4th January 2022, 12:00 AM

I didn't know this had a vinyl release coming and definitely would not have predicted it to sell that much...!

Posted by: HausSucksBlood 24th October 2022, 06:21 PM

I have all three on vinyl already but if anyone can lend me $199.98 i'd be eternally grateful xx The trilogy is being released on vinyl together for the first time:

What a collection heart.gif
