I prefer not to have them as I like the bit-by-bit releasing of points towards the end. Generally I've found if it's a big points margin then you'd lock down the scoreboard so the winner isn't given away too early and keeps people interested! That's what I did when Sanctuary won by 75 points or something.

A beautiful song that sounds quite timeless, for a 2007 B-Side it really sounds like a ready made BJSC hit in the current climate!

3pts Republique d’Ashton // Mutya Keisha Siobhan – I’m Alright
Fabulous leak, if the album that is currently at the mercy of them stretching the meaning o soon every comes I hope it’s as good as this!

4pts Kluminican Republic // Smile – Butterfly
90s is quite in vogue this year in BJSC, but this is a fab example! I can’t help but bop along to this as if I’m dancing it out on DDR.

5pts Skall // Kate Bush – Jig Of Life
Quintessentially Kate, noboy could sing this and pull it off perfectly, a return to our point from Skall after what must be AGES!

6pts Espen // Prequell ft. Rae Morris – Part XIV
A huge sounding song, instantly sounded like a hit to my ears and really wormed into my affections even further.

7pts D’yermak’er // highasakite – Golden Ticket
Such a special song to Bal and a perfect anniservary entry, sounds as good as it did before <3

8pts St. Burbia // Jarina De Marco – STFU
BJSC better not be so white because this bonkers BANGER needs to smash, very M.I.A. if she went on a meltdown bender.

I have no idea what’s being said apar from vague gists of sentences, but the production of this is banging and his flow kills it, I need to hear more of this guy Stromae is shaking xx

10pts Taahino // Tonight Alive - Temple
Perfect Taahino, rock with a huge chorus. That elusive top 10 can come this month plz, no more Taahino racism :/

11pts Greenfroze // Alaska Thunderf*** – Your Makeup Is Terrible
BUT I LOVE YOU ANYWAY. Absolute banger, an acquired taste perhaps as you have to get the Drag Race humour and find Alaska’s voice funny etc, but I have more than acquired said taste.

12pts Hushkanukia // Haschak Sisters – Pretty Girl
Feminist anthem, BJSC so woke xx These pop princesses HAVE to replicate their prior BJSC success with Daddy Says No with this saxy song that’s nearly as iconic.

13pts Persephonia // Life Sim – IDL
Not a country who’s used to being this high in Unovian points, or featuring at all This beauty of a track is PC Music perfection, building so well and more than justifying its slightly longer than average 6 minute length. Each second is a joy and you find yourself wanting it to be even longer.

15pts Altyr Muunilinst // Rhys – Too Good To Be True
A huge grower, I didn’t like this too much at first, gave it quite a few in the semi and it’s now a medal position just pipped to the full 18! Such a bop , it nails that Spotify scandi-pop payola sound in a fab way much like Last Dance by Rhys did.

18pts Ultraviolenceland // Olivia Holt – Generous
And finally, our 18 had to be this! From first listen this was instant love, it’s like a lost track from Selena Gomez’s Revival written flawlessly by Julia Michaels (I can’t believe she didn’t write this too!!) and Selena is one of my faves so that can only be a good thing

01 Joedonia // Kim Petras feat. Baby E - The Hills
welcome back Joedonia <3 Kim Petras may have hit the headlines as a youngster due to her gender transition choice, but now it's time for her fantastic musical talent to take the spotlight. Kim starts off our points with some serious swag, as her vocals are really easy to warm to and the production is top notch.

02 N DNTN // Charlotte Gainsbourg - Deadly Valentine
recent queen of the UK iTunes top 500 Charlotte Gainsbourg is up next with this lovely grower. we feel silly for predicting this to DNQ now but it was just due to its subtlety. we're glad that this 6-minute beauty has caught on as it's instantly relaxing every time due to the soft vocals and equally gentle production.

03 Rolloland // Anathema - Untouchable
we expected this almost-12 minute two-parter epic to end up a bit higher in our votes but it was knocked down due to growers. us Jadakissnians loved the passion that shone through the the male vocals, the lush transition to the duet in part 2 and both the heavier instrumentation of part 1 and the soft piano production that came in later on. very standout.

04 Bhangra // RÜFÜS - You Were Right
this is like a more accessible version of recent RÜFÜS entry 'Innerbloom' as the length is trimmed quite significantly. that was always going to be hard to top as it was our 18 pointer but this is definitely another good'un from RÜFÜS. 'You Were Right' isn't quite as dreamy as 'Innerbloom' but their general sound was still apparent in the production and we liked this familiarity. a formula needn't always be a bad thing. this is one of Bhangra's best entries since their comeback last year.

05 Caerfyrddia // Jennie Abrhamsson - Into Deep
welcome to our voting history for the very first time, Caerfryddia! we have heard good things about this nation from others who have similar taste to us, so we hope you stick around and deliver more gems like this. 'Into Deep' sounds like a Susanne Sundfør song and we have a good track record of stanning a lot of her work. this synthy beauty is so commanding that we're even willing to overlook the slightly annoying title ('in too deep' >>>). we are hoping for big things for this entry, top 10 por favor!

06 Fljótavík // Kölsch - þema fyrir fljótavík
now it's time for another #longsongbloc entry 'cause we're just so loyal to the bloc like that, even when our own entry is shy of 4 minutes. although this one takes long song to another level with its 20 minute duration! we didn't feel like this was taking the piss however, because the sounds change quite a bit throughout due to the nature of it being a megamix, so this left us more than satisfied. here we have some absolutely delightful instrumentation (we're suckers for strings always!) and some seriously impressive editing which ensured seamless transitions throughout. a brave 100 statement that has paid off with its spot in the final.

07 Suedeonia // Baxter Drury - Miami (Parrot & Cocker Too Remix)
it's time to whip out Etta James - 'At Last' as Suedeonia have finally made it into our votes again, for the first time since 86! the Jadakissnia-Suedeonia points are very lopsided in our voting history (god bless you for being such a regular supporter of ours) but we're finally pushing Suedeonia into double-figure points received from us now! we seriously did not expect this entry to be the one to do it though, what a marvellous surprise it was to see this qualifying. Ian Dury's son Baxter has unleashed this infectious but barmy song rife with expletives on us - just listen to those lyrics - "I'm a salamander"? "I'm the sausage man"? golden stuff. i love the electronic elements of the production, the strings, the weirdness... yes yes yes. i guess the female-vox chorus is the one moment of sanity, i reckon that's why it qualified. seriously standout and another strong #longsongbloc entry.

08 Hendinia // Vanbot - Hold This Moment
here is a contender that we can get behind! we shall be cheering loudly as Hendinia most likely receive yet another 3rd place for this one. xx the synthy production and desperately passionate vocal delivery mix together delightfully here <3 'Hold This Moment' sounds incredibly wide-appealing with a chorus that is likely to prick up the ears of pophoes and the synth enthusiasts like me are likely to melt at how divine those are. this is the most points that we have awarded Hendinia since 78 so congrats!

09 Sandebörg // Army Of Lovers - Carry My Urn To Ukraine
yes yes yes yes yes. my gosh this is a guilty pleasure and a half *.* i think stanning a Sandebörg entry is becoming a yearly tradition after loving 'Nightclub Nirvana' in 2015, 'Werk Like Beyoncé' in 2016 and now this absolute RIOT in 2017! before we get to the song, can we just appreciate how incredibly unorthodox that title is? i love how much this stands out for being such unadulterated FUN. i adore the accents of all the Army Of Lovers members - which makes me appreciate the delivery of both the verses and the chorus. this has wormed its way into my brain for whatever reason and as a result, there has barely been a moment where 'Carry My Urn To Ukraine' hasn't been stuck in my head this week. we shall "toast magic potion" to Sandebörg no matter where this finishes tonight. so chuffed that this qualified.

10 Persephonia // Life Sim - IDL
winner! winner! winner! winner! did we mention that we think this has a strong shot of winning this whole thing? x we're so pleased that our allies have finally unleashed this PC Music gem that they were sitting on for two years! an instant smash if ever i've heard one. PC Music can be a bit hit-and-miss for us but this one really hits the spot with its enthralling build-up! we are a sucker for songs that hit their peak within the last minute or so with a section that is different to what has come before it (see our own song this month too lolz) and IDL really hits a satisfying climax that makes me want to listen to it again right away. a very striking (mostly) instrumental with a cutesy voice reminding us what the title is. remember this title folks as Persephonia shall be crowned the winners of bjsc 100!! here we have a really wide-appealing instrumental with a v. memorable video that manages to illustrate the clichés of Hollywood, but also provides a nostalgic trip through cinematic history that will particularly hit the spot with the film buffs of the site. great stuff.

11 #00274E // OrelSan - Basique
we were super excited for this one after Stromae comparisons in the entry showcase stage of the competition, as 'Alors On Danse' is an all-time favourite. thankfully this delivered on my high expectations and then some! we got the Stromae comparison within about 10 seconds with the French delivery and similar production style. my French is pretty rusty now so it wasn't entirely apparent what this was about until i started paying close attention to the video. here we have bold statements about politics and a superb video that illustrates what OrelSan is telling us, even displaying Nazi symbolism. A refrain that mostly comprises of the word 'basique' really works and actually took us back in time to when #00274E sent 'Claque-le', as that has a similarly repetitive but commanding chorus. veryyyyy up our street sonically and really interesting words to go alongside.

12 D'yermak'er // Highasakite - Golden Ticket
i like this lmao. i have known 'Golden Ticket' for a couple of years now due to D'yermak'er previously trying to send it but unfortunately getting vetoed. so what a perfect song to use as a 50th anniversary entry! this doesn't quite boast a chorus as obvious as 'Samurai Swords', which packs a punch, but i much prefer this with it's soulful, beautiful and subtle build-up. we hope the "i've got a golden ticket - i'm out" words don't literally ring true and that you don't actually bow out after winning with this! xx although it would be exiting on a high tbh as this is my second favourite D'yermak'er entry after Jessica 6's 'Down Low'. On top of the wonderful vocals, I love the general build up and synth-ridden shimmery production. the video is striking too. top 5 smash please!!

13 Espen // Prequell feat. Rae Morris - Part XIV
Espen have had a stupendously good year in terms of quality in 2017! they have been no strangers to our points and this includes medal positions, as we awarded ATB our 18 earlier in the year. they're back in the coveted top 3 with this phenomenal offering. we haven't entirely got the hype of Rae Morris in the past, but we're totally on board here with the help of Prequell. my goshhh that instrumental is breathtaking (that kinda mishmash of electronic and classical is something i ALWAYS appreciate!) and she delivers the chorus to perfection with that achey enunciation. it's like the verses slowly build us up and then the chorus gives us absolutely everything at once. this is really special, i hope it can prove to be a smash for Espen tonight.

15 Kluminican Republic // Smile - Butterfly
Klum Rep were sooo close to joining our small club of nations that have received more than one 18, but they were sadly pipped during our final listen. Receiving 15 points is still nothing to be sniffed at however! Kluminican Republic are smashing it so much for us lately - this is the THIRD time they've been in our top 2 of the final in 2017! like 'Carry My Urn To Ukraine', this is another huuuge guilty pleasure that never fails to put a smile (lol) on my face! it was a song i knew due to being played on plug.dj a couple of years ago (possibly by Cody?) and because it was interpolated on the iconic top 40 hit 'Enter The Ninja' by Die Antwoord. so we already loved it pre-contest and now we just love it even more! such joyous and cutesy vibes with the silly lyrics and video (that thing in the air totally looks like a fidget spinner #mysticsmile) and the oriental production is a really wonderful layer to it too. we hope this can be a Caramell-esque top 10 guilty pleasure smash! (hopefully sparing you of our 18 means that you won't come 11th at least)

18 Aeroche // TR/ST - Capitol
So it is instead Aeroche who join our small club of nations that have received at least 2 18s from us! This follows top marks for 'Angel (Club Mix)' by Polyna in BJSC 84, which went on to be our EOY #1 in 2016. They join Persephonia, Espen and Terra Avium as the nations that we apparently love a lot. we 'only' gave this 13 points in the semi but it was determined to clamber its way to the very top and did just that with a bit of growing power. this piece of dark electropop is so up my street it hurts <3 when Aeroche go dark, they do it well. the thumping production reels me in and then hearing that chorus is such a special moment of immense euphoria. i am a fan of 'Sulk' but this is even better so it would be amazing if kings of BJSC Aeroche could win with TR/ST again. but you'll probably have to settle for 11th now if our 18 curse rears its head one more time to see the year out. thank you for this incredibleeee discovery <3 <3 <3

100 whole editions of bjsc, wow. This contest has been a part of our lives for years, for some more than others, and all of us come together for the same reason - a huge passion for music (and maybe a competitive edge too x). This is still my #1 source for music and probably always will be until this contest dies, but hopefully it won't for a very long time. Here's to many more milestones <3

- Caerfyrddia's grand return, reminiscent of many of their greatest entries from the times they were regular participants (and may we pray they stick around now as well??), comes in with six points making them the only one of the three long awaited returning nations in the final that we voted for; our last points to Caerfyrddia were all the way back in BJSC 55 for their sole winner. Ahead of them are a trio of songs that grew on us a lot over the course of the contest: seven points go to another #longsongbloc track from Suedeonia which has to be the biggest shock qualifier of the contest; eight points go to Taahino with a PVRIS-reminiscent rock anthem which maybe this time will finally get them a top 10??? in any case it's our second highest points ever to them; and nine points go to a slow burning beaut (and current UK iTunes top 200 megasmash) from N DNTN who impress us greatly a second month in a row. Persephonia have caught a lot of heat over the years from Aeroche for the fact we didn't vote for TR/ST's 'Sulk' despite it ostensibly being our kind of thing - but 'Sulk' has become a delayed hit in Persephonia and we can now properly atone with ten points to the even better 'Capitol'.

11 Skall // Kate Bush - Jig Of Life

- Skall's veto-sliding entry from one of the all time legendary British artists is yet another one from them to get into the double figures for us (achieved by 6 of their last 7 qualifiers and MORALLY by several of their DNQs in the mean time), this time eleven points for this epic Celtic bop. We're enjoying these 80s Skall cuts the last couple of months. x

12 Espen // Prequell - Part XIV (feat. Rae Morris)

- Our tip to be a possible dark horse winner this contest (we're surprised more people aren't hyping this up xx), Espen claim our twelve points with this track with incredibly irresistible instrumentation (and a good vocal contribution but who cares about that tbh #instrumentalbloc). Slap mi hole.

13 #00274E // Orelsan - Basique

- The only other returning nation besides Caerfyrddia to make our votes (but in this case just returning from a one month ban), thirteen points go to #00274E, the French language is always a bit of a hit and miss one among Persephonian audiences but this one was a definite hit, tapping into our love for a good old slightly unusual foreign language rap track. It's like Stromae if Stromae was good. A great video for this as well and what sounds like very TOPICAL lyrics. Best #00274E track for quite some time. x

15 Jadakissnia // Francis And The Lights - See Her Out (That's Just Life)

- Our second favourite Jadakissnia entry of the year but not quite giving them a second top scorer after MONOMOTION, they settle for fifteen points this time, kind of CHEATING as this song was already pretty special among Persephonian audiences after making a splash during a televised concert by The xx in which Francis was a support act, but hey it's good for the occasion xx A bit of an emotional synthtastic beaut, we were very worried we might have lost this in the semi-final (a moment of silence for our fallen faves Terra Avium, Flynnonda, Deandria, Ambienta and Cadelicia ) but thank gawd that wasn't the case as this is an absolute essential. Another year and the Jadaphonia voting bloc in BJSC finals remains intact. Who gon stop us ~

18 Rolloland // Anathema - Untouchable

- So Jadakissnia failed to join Espen in the list of countries to get two top scores from us this year, but instead Rolloland do, as they take our full eighteen points (nearly one and a half points per minute #longsongbloc) for a second time after previously getting it in BJSC 94 with their debut entry 'Routine'. That song is a strong contender for our favourite entry of the entire year and we didn't expect Rolloland to top it but boy have they come close with this, an absolutely gorgeous epic from start to finish, this is what progressive rock is all about We'd probably have still given it our 18 if they had just sent part 1, but we enjoyed the experience of the full two-part track nonetheless. We hope to see this in at least the top 20.

Hello everyone, I’m Victoria Arlen, a Paralympic turned ESPN journalist who recently got a stint on Dancing With The Stars (and I still can’t believe I get to say that!), and I’m so honored to be chosen to present votes for this contest! CONGRATS LEW. I honestly did not even see 'Capitol' as a possible winner but I suppose we really just cannot go a calendar year without an Aeroche win (and of course this has more than secured them the EOY #1 as well - achieving both of these things at the last possible opportunity 2 years in a row)! A really great song as well, lovely to be properly behind TR/ST winning this time (only the second time an act has won twice and both times they won as a self-recycle )

Double checking my final scoreboard with Liam now but it does appear Math's last minute voting has allowed me to just scrape in 10th place thank you Math my absolute saviour. *.*

I was hoping for Bal to finally win but 2nd is still a deserved success, love seeing N DNTN + #00274e up in the top 10 too like old times *. (WHAT at the latter doing that well though, I loved it but that was a contender I completely missed). Hoping that Rolloland might have scraped the top 20 to make this some pretty great all round results ;o

As for my own result, I am absolutely THRILLED with 20th, I honestly expected 30 something I thought it was a bit too "basic" and pop for BJSC as it is now, but I had to send it as A) aussie flop lolz, B) Queen Ricki and C) it felt so rightwith the Australian gay marriage vote, it feels like an anthem for it almost Rounds off a really good BJSC year for me success wise if we exclude Fracture which I kinda regret sending and it flopped, and Odiosa for breaking my streak ofc </3


Also really happy with the whole top 10 really on the whole wasn't so keen on TRST but that's just not my thing, wd Lew of course for winning and I couldn't hand over to a better host *.* I'm thrilled US Jack made top 10 in the end as it was a huge grower I wish I'd pointed, but turns out it didn't exactly need it The one in the top 20 that's criminally low is Taahino, yet another "should've" been top 10 that feels HUGE and just didn't quite do it, but another top 20 is fab!



Thanks again to the 87 nations for competing in this and following the results, I really enjoyed hosting as stressful and mammoth a task as it was at times It was fun to put a spin on things with it being 100 and do some extra bits to celebrate, and you all pulled out the bag for an amazing bunch of songs on the whole!

Some tidbits:

- Altyr and UVLand won the semis, Altyr absolutely SMASHED it and I lowkey thought they might win as a result lmao, I did kind of feel like Aeroche had the power as soon as Lew showed me the song though.
- Aeroche were a narrow 3rd in their semi, and D'yermak'er were 2nd.
- US Jack had a huge leap from projected 27th to actual 6th. meanwhile Ojnoj had a huge fall from projected 12th to actual 31st.New Lexico similarly did a lot better than projected (44th).
- Pupok only qualified because of Umiiruka's deduction.
- Tinnmark was the country who beat Farahtyn on the tie.

It was a liiil bit of a shame to end up falling down as far as 10th when I'd bought my own hype and was kinda feeling like I would come top 5 (not least because it looked like that was going to happen for a good half of the reveal) BUT I am still more than happy to be top 10 out of 87 songs in such a ~momentous~ contest, and on the bright side, my run of all my top 10 hits finishing no lower than 6th is finally over after more than 8 years! That's another unique position ticked off, just 7th, 8th and 9th needed from the top 10 now lol x Thanks everyone who voted for 'IDL', hooray for it finally getting its day in the contest and a success after 2 years on the backburner. Plus it's only the second time I've ever had back to back top 10s so that's a thing. *.*

I wasn't the biggest fan of 'Golden Ticket' (though it grew on me enough to get a commis in my votes x) but it would have been a very fitting end for D'yermak'er if they finally managed a winner with their last ditch attempt anniversary entry </3 I guess this just means that we can hope and pray D'yermak'er one day return to finally get that win xxx 'Deadly Valentine' has to be one of the biggest surprise top 3 hits in quite a while, a really good surprise but I literally would never have called it even being top 10 let alone 3rd!!! (though wouldn't have gone as far as to predict it DNQing like some others). 'You Were Right' and 'Basique' are kind of surprise top 5 hits for me too, I guess the former makes sense as it's basically a more accessible version of 'Innerbloom' which came 5th, I remember David making a post this contest hoping he'd manage to do as well with this song as he did with his debut entry and well that has happened exactly, how satisfying x Really strong top 5 overall, voted for 4/5 of them ;o

USoJ didn't make my votes but it's good to see a veteran country doing so well with their return (and I did like the song and especially the video), thought/hoped it'd be Caerfyrddia if any that made the top 10 but they didn't do too badly either I guess! THRILLED with Jadakissnia being as high as 14th (very close to beating me!!1), I think it was literally only me and Jade herself being so pessimistic about it lmao so that was a bit silly in retrospect but I was kind of nearly as attached to that entry as I was to my own

Espen, Taahino, Trifoski, Rolloland and St. Burbia deserved better. I guess Tonight Alive are cursed to always underperform a bit, I was so sure this would finally be the one to get Taahino a top 10 but ah well maybe next year?? Also 23rd is not too bad for Rolloland really but I hoped the niche voters would push them into the top 20 like 'Routine'. Pretty good results for Skall, Fljótavík and Suedeonia none of which I expected to do much better. x

thank you so, so much. i'm thrilled to win with an artist that was one of my earliest winners - a really GREAT full circle moment and so unexpected. i fully expected a d'yermak'er and persephonia fight to the death (both are the most winnery sounding tracks this contest easily), sad to see the former couldn't win as a first win for bal (pls don't be too mad at me! i caught ur post ). i know most will probably be rolling their eyes at another aeroche win but i appreciate the success i have here especially because it's my biggest source of new music and it allows me to hunt through new music, meaning i discover wayyy more music than i would do without it. made so many wonderful discoveries in the last 60-odd contests so long may that continue.

congratulations to all those in the bjsc final, and here here for 100 contests! really looking forward to seeing what everyone brings for the next decade.

Would have had 4 different qualifiers - Bignia-Zaragovina making it in semi 1 ( thank you 18 point system) and strangely enough Umiiruka managing to make it here even post-deduction, at the expense of Triangledonia and Pupok, while in semi 2 we'd have 2 returning nations making it - PRoJ ( damn you 18 point system) and Frandoot, although at the expense of one of the returnees that did qualify (Vülkyria) and surprisingly New Lexico. The rest isn't particularly interesting although it's weird that Rhys ended up with a smaller lead after this adjustment than Olivia.

Shall try and get the final EOY update posted in the next couple of days ;o
