No, it isn't as actively abysmal as Did You Do It? or as basic as any number of her early album tracks, but it's so REDUCTIVE. I also think having her go full on TAMPON COMMERCIAL for the video didn't help. |

Going for 'Nobody Knows Me' as it's definitely the weakest one left, surprised that so many are going for 'Love Profusion' this early, sure it's only somewhat standard decent song and doesn't at all compare with about 95% of her singles discography, but on this album and compared to the other tracks, it is very good and definitely one of the album's better tracks.
I gave this album another chance and sorry I just can't warm to it, I see it as Madonna's attempt at doing a social commentary album that backfired, and while it's not her worst album (that goes to 'MDNA'), I still wouldn't rank this very high compared to her other albums. Also I know I'm in the minority here, but the title track 'American Life' is just terrible, didn't like it then, don't like it now and there's nothing iconic about that awful rap towards the end, I just don't see why her fans even like this one, I'm personally a massive Madonna fan, but even I don't think much of this track. |
