Today marks 8 years since 'Bounce' charted in the UK, having entered and peaked at #2. The song was his first chart hit in over a year and officially began the '18 Months' era, still his most successful album cycle to date containing nine UK top ten singles. It also marked the start of a fresh new sound for Calvin and saw him step away from the microphone for the first time, with vocals provided by Kelis. What do we make of this song 8 years later? Still amazing, right? One of my all time faves of his still. Here's what Buzzjack thought of it at the time: Really like it on first listen - not as good as some of Kelis' material during the FleshTone era but Calvin has always made good music! With Kelis' golden touch, this will hopefully be a hit for her and Calvin! It's a bit far too... simple? for me...? I didn't have high expectations though, I generally don't like Calvin's material from the first listen, most of his songs are growers for me. Love this, though i do see how it sounds a bit nintendo in parts I really like this as I do with anything Kelis touches. For me though, the beat is a bit too light, as I prefer Kelis' voice with heavier beats like in 'Brave' and 'Home'. Then again, its not her song, its Calvins, and on first listen it is very good I think I'll love this song, it's great to see Calvin being original. On first listen it's great, I'd like to see this do well in the charts which I'm sure it will. Kelis' vocals are good too but it's all about Calvin's amazing production. Love the nintendo sample Very mediocre indeed, both artists are capable of way better. Kelis is REALLY OVERDUE a number one, so even though this is a bit of a same old shit release for Calvin I really hope it does the business for her. I actually think this would better as an instrumental - Kelis IMO is a bit redundant in this song. Its still good; but I cant help feeling it could and should be better Like Calvin Harris, he can do something good from nothing. The tune's sooo simple but sounds nice and catchy. I actually quite like this... Probably because his fucking awful voice isn't plastered all over it. |

I quite liked 'Bounce' at the time, it peaked at #25 in my chart and stayed in that top 40 for 9 weeks. I do still like it but it's not quite an absolute favourite of his or anything. I somehow didn't realise that this was the first ever Calvin single to not feature his own vocals! I am a fan of his voice unlike some of those quoted posts though

As for my personal chart, it also peaked at #2 there (for 3 weeks) and spent 30 weeks in the chart, safe to say I was a fan!

Not one of my faves of his. I did rather like it at the time but it was faaaar too play overplayed by radios to the point where the instrumental got extremely annoying. Unfortunately, it hasn't rebounded as well as some of the others from that album that also suffered overexposure.

I like Bounce. It's not a go to song for me and I rarely ever seek it out as song of his to listen to but I enjoy it when I do hear it. Echoing the comments of surprise for this being his first single not to feature his vocals; it almost seems the rarity now that he doesn't sing on his own songs!
