Commercially and critically Witness was a huge fall from grace for Katy but do we all feel the same?

For me it's a good album, and better than Prism. Sure there's some inessentials like Into Me You See, Save As Draft, Bigger Than Me but lots of gems alongside the singles- Hey Hey Hey, Roulette, Power, Tsunami and Act My Age are all wig moments cheeseblock.png

I think the branding of the album as purposeful pop damaged it because people were expecting a quasi-political opus and that didn't really happen.

It’s the worst studio album of hers for me. There are some good songs on it (like I’d say the title track, Roulette, Chained and Miss you More are good) it’s just the album didn’t really fit the description and some of it was experimental but not really in a good way like it didn’t really feel natural to her to me like the sound / direction of this.

It’s not completely terrible but it was a big step down from everything she’d done prior to this album.

I think it was a pretty good album- would have been better if some absolute clunkers like Power, Mind Maze, Into Me You See, Bigger Than Me had been left on the cutting room floor.

I have gone with poor as Chained To The Rhythm/Miss You More save it from being terrible.

(Roulette is good too and I can give or take the title track, everything else...)

I love Chained! All singles were great imo, but the album tracks not so much.

I'd rank this as a very MEH! album, here's my rating for each track on this album. Only rating the standard 15 track edition not the 2 bonus/deluxe tracks. coz they're just filler & not very good anyway (like half of this album).

01. Witness - 7.5
02. Hey, Hey, Hey - 6.5
03. Roulette - 9
04. Swish, Swish (ft Nicki Minaj) - 8
05. Deja Vu - 5
06. Power - 5.5
07. Mind Maze - 4
08. Miss You More - 4.5
09. Chained To The Rhythm - 10
10. Tsunami - 3.5
11. Bon Appetit' - 7
12. Bigger Than Me - 5
13. Save As Daft - 4.5
14. Pendulum - 6
15. Into Me You See - 5

Avg: 6.066

Yep a pretty poor rating, there's just way too many lacklustre filler moments which kills the flow & at 15 (17 if u include the bonus) is way too many, which makes this a slog to get through. Scrap about 5 of these tracks (Tsunami, Bigger Than Me, Miss You More, Deja Vu & Save as Daft) would be my choices, then this album would have been a bit more bearable. However it still wouldn't be all that great.

This whole era felt like one giant mis-step with Katy really struggling to find a direction of where to take her sound next. This whole woke/purposeful pop sound feels very half-baked with several forgettable tracks that lack Katy's usual charisma, coming off more dull than authentic.

While its not all bad there are some decent moments on here: the 3 main singles (CTTR, BA, SS) are probably the album's best moments, but none of which compares to some of her more iconic & biggest smash hits, with 'CTTR' being the best choice for the lead, but still pales when compared to her previous lead singles, & sadly it was all down-hill from there. Other decent moments are "Roulette", which should have been the 2nd single, a total banger. The title track is a respectable number & a decent opener. "Hey, Hey Hey" had a fun music video, but doubt this would have worked as a proper release, coz not only was the era pretty much dead after the 3rd single, but this lacks that certain something. Was "Save as Draft" (the most stupidest title ever) even considered as a single, its just so poorly executed & dull.

Somewhere between good and meh. I think the singles are all great and there's 3 or 4 great album tracks but it also has some of her worst songs ever that pull it down massively.

Thing is all her albums (bar TD) are patchy. So its not offbrand for a Katy album to suck.

This is by far and away her best album nn.

'Witness', 'Mind Maze', 'Roulette' and 'Bigger Than Me' are the holy quadrangle (if that's a word). The 3 singles are also all amazing. I could do without the 3 ballads tho.

It’s pretty middle of the road. There are some decent tracks but a lot of filler and no way as good as her two previous albums.
