Came second in 2017. Topped semi-final 2 by a 74% margin. The lowest mark it got from any country in the semi-final was 6 points and got 10 of the 16 12s available from juries. It came second in the jury vote and the televote in the final and produced Bulgaria's best ever result. |

We all know who is the top 5. Any feeling for what order they are in, and any basis for your prediction?

Came 2nd in 2015. Topped semi-final 1. Despite not having a victory, Russia had a very good decade. They came second twice, had 5 top 5 placings and one further top 7 placing. Polina was the first contestant ever to score more than 300 (unadjusted) points and not win the contest. She received 12s from 5 countries in the final. |

Won in 2014. Topped the 2nd semi-final. While the studio cut is good, Conchita's live performance was stunning, garnering full marks from 13 countries in the final. The common opinion was that conservative Eastern European countries would not vote for Conchita. This turn out to be unfounded. She even got 5 points from Russia. This came 48 years after their previous and only prior victory. This post has been edited by Colm: Apr 8 2020, 07:07 PM |

Won in 2012. Topped the second semi-final. Despite only getting top marks from 6 countries in the semi-final, Loreen broke the record for 12s received in the final, with 18. With a decent song and a great performance there wasn't much standing in her way to claim Sweden's 5th win. |

Won in 2017 giving Portugal its first top 5 placing as well as its first victory. It topped semi-final 1 and won both the jury and the televote in the final taking in 12s from 18 countries - matching the record set by Sweden in 2012. Won in 2015 and topped semi-final 2. As alluded to already, 2015 had unusually high marks being attributed to the top 3 placings. You might guess that this was maybe because there were more countries voting that year. In actual fact, only 40 countries entered. It was this that put Heroes at the top of this countdown. Sweden had a higher average mark per voting country than Portugal. Portugal did score higher but there were 41 countries participating in 2017 bringing their average below Sweden's. This make's Sweden's victory even more impressive. Thank god Portugal didn’t win this. Mans, Loreen and Conchita are all amazing winners and very deserving. Heroes is a BANGER (don’t @ me lmao) so I’m happy it won.

Well that's an absolutely awful winner. I think 'Heroes' was legit my least favourite song in the final in its year (I concede it had great visuals, but the actual song was naff). At least the rest of the top 5 are good to great.
I was assuming Salvador would still be 1st here, I thought he still broke the points record even when adjusting to the older system? |

I was assuming Salvador would still be 1st here, I thought he still broke the points record even when adjusting to the older system? Yes, he did. But not by much - he is only 14 points ahead of Måns. With 2 more countries voting in 2017, Salvador's average drops below Måns's. Salvador Total Points - 758 Divide by 2 - 379 Countries voting (=countries participating minus 1) - 41 Average vote received - 9.24 Måns Total Points - 365 Countries voting (=countries participating minus 1) - 39 Average vote received - 9.36 I explained that I adjusted for 2 factors in the opening post - the doubling of points available since 2016 and the number of countries voting in each year. He did break the points record - if the old voting system were to be used, Portugal would've scored 417 points in the Final. Obviously Colm here simply halved the scores of the 2016-2019 finals so the accuracy is not 100%. Still refreshing to have a surprise winner here in Sweden 2015 tbh. |

Ew, Heroes. My 2nd least favourite winner of the 2010s BY FAR (Shitting Scared is safe and sound in LAST).

2014 > 2018 > 2017 >>> 2012 > 2016 >>>> 2019 > 2010 > 2013 >>>>>> 2015 >>>>>> 2011
Something like that. 8 of the winners were all fabulous though. |
