That is worldwide; the BPI award is for UK streams alone.

The Beatles have had significant chart success on Spotify in the UK, as of April 2023.
"Come Together" - has over 239 million streams "Let It Be" - has over 204 million streams "Here Comes the Sun" - has over 182 million "Hey Jude" - has over 168 million streams "Yesterday" - has over 160 million streams That's a total of 953m streams with just 5 tracks. They should get one of these new Brit awards. |

Maybe they are going to announce the awards in batches otherwise it would be over and done with if they issued them all and a potential long wait for the next award?
The glaringly obvious omissions appear to be artists like the Beatles, Oasis, Elton John, Eminem, Fleetwood Mac, Lady Gaga etc., several of whom clog up the album charts week after week with ‘Greatest Hits’ |

Just doesn't sit well that Raye who only has one big hit and it was this year and all the other streams are majority due to collaborations has hit this milestone. I can imagine this list being hundreds

It's weird to see the legends (like ABBA and Whitney) and nobodies (Aj Tracey, Headie One, Rita Ora, Raye) in one list.

I'm no fan of Rita Ora but I don't think you can call her a nobody.
How much success do people have to have these days before they count as being a somebody if 13 top 10 hits, including 4 number ones, doesn't get you over that line? |

Given the amount of artists that will have 1B UK streams it would have been sensible to do a gradual cert system like singles and albums.
1B = Silver 3B = Gold 5B = Platinum Which leaves 10B Diamond for when that starts becoming needed (though you imagine Ed and maybe a couple of others might be over 10B already). This post has been edited by sammy01: 11th May 2023, 06:30 PM |

James Arthur got one while promoting a new single, so I'm wondering whether it is just an award that artists can request to help with promo? As has already been said, the likes of The Beatles, Ed Sheeran, Michael Jackson and Adele are such glaring omissions.

From BPI 15/6/23
Becky Hill has been announced as the latest artist to receive a BRIT Billion Award by the BPI, the representative voice for the UK’s world leading record labels and music companies. The BRIT Billion award celebrates Becky’s achievement in surpassing the landmark of one billion career UK streams - as calculated by the Official Charts Company. She was presented with the prestigious award backstage at Parklife Festival in Manchester’s Heaton Park on Sunday ahead of her performance. Winner of Best Dance Act two years running at the BRIT Awards 2022 and 2023, Becky Hill already has a Gold-certified top 10 album to her name in the shape of Only Honest At The Weekend. Her critically acclaimed run of hits include a number one spot on the Official Singles Chart with Gecko (Overdrive) (with Oliver Heldens) and a further four top 10 singles with the anthems Wish You Well (with Sigala), Afterglow (with Wilkinson), Crazy What Love Can Do (with David Guetta and Ella Henderson) and Remember (with David Guetta) – the latter having already amassed over 160 million streams in the UK. On receiving her BRIT Billion Award, Becky Hill said: “1,000,000,000 streams of my music in the UK. wild. this year marks my 11th year in the music industry & for 8 of them i dreamed of ‘breaking the uk’… i think this award signifies that goal being achieved thanks to the songwriters & producers that created this music with me over the years & thanks to YOU music lovers for listening & dancing! now for the rest of the world.” Officially launched on 4th May 2023, the first wave of 13 artists to receive the BRIT Billion award included global icons ABBA, Coldplay, Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston, pioneering rap and hip-hop artists AJ Tracey and Headie One, and chart-dominating pop artists and singer-songwriters Anne-Marie, Ellie Goulding, George Ezra, Lewis Capaldi, RAYE, Rita Ora and Sam Smith. Recent recipients include Years & Years’ Olly Alexander, who received the BRIT Billion award from Girls Aloud’s Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh at Mighty Hoopla festival, and singer-songwriter James Arthur, who was presented with his award live on BBC’s The One Show from presenters Alex Scott and Roman Kemp. The BRIT Billion award reflects the extent to which streaming has transformed the music landscape for artists and fans alike over the past decade – more than 85% of the UK’s recorded music consumption now takes place through streaming, and in 2022 there were a record 160 billion audio streams in the UK in total. |

I really feel they should give the stars / awards depending on how many billions of streams the artist has reached.
Say, the función would be 2^x or by Fibonacci numbers. Say, 1 billion = star 2 billion = 2 stars 4 billion = 3 stars 8 billion = 4 stars Etc. This way it would make much more sense. |
