OMG I love Louisa but WTF is Best Behaviour it sounds like a reject single that GRL would have dropped from the final cut of an album.

Seriously dissappointed and I just know it's going to bomb.

Dissappointed - a new portmanteau word you have invented meaning to be disappointed in something enough to diss it? tongue.gif

Anyway I haven't heard this new Louisa track but Tears and So Good were excellent.

The new Steps thing is such a Steps single! It's exactly what the world needs. Bring on the video so we can all learn the dance routine. Get them on CD:UK... oh sad.gif if only!

Louisa's single is OK but she won cos of her voice and her singles don't highlight that. It's taken so long to release this follow up as though her label put lots of thought into it so it sets it up so it's a little blah...maybe a grower though. There's something about it.

Remember that Steps won't have good streaming because their demographic don't generally stream and the single is low down on the New Music Friday playlist.

It will probably just make the top 40, still impressive mind.

This is definitely going to go #1. The media will go mad about that and could help it even more!

Posted by: Mart!n Mar 10 2017, 10:11 AM

Honestly I didn't even know Steps had a new single, due to laptop issues over the past fortnight. Nice to see them back in the official chart though, not sure how high it will chart among all the Ed Sheeran claptrap.

Posted by: liamk97 Mar 10 2017, 10:11 AM

I'm so amazed at Steps getting a Top 5 on iTunes when it's barely passed 10am! I know it will only be a couple of 2k or whatever at this point but that's some great dedication and suggests their album could do very well (if Ed Sheeran's reign has died down a bit by then, could we be seeing another surprise #1 album for them?).

Posted by: danG Mar 10 2017, 10:13 AM

Ed will still be selling well above everyone else by April 21st, Steps could definitely get a #2 album though.

Starting to think their new single will 'do a Take That' and actually make the top 20, although Ed's album tracks may stop that.

Posted by: ElectroBoy Mar 10 2017, 10:14 AM

I want Kworb to update to see how far they are away from 2 as the gap from the last update suggests a fairly big lead for the top 2. But top 3 after just over 10 hours is an amazing result

Posted by: M4NG0 Mar 10 2017, 10:14 AM

Wow @ Steps, never expected it to do quite THIS well! I've just listened to it and it's actually quite a fun little song in a very nostalgic 2001 kinda way biggrin.gif

I'm not the biggest Louisa fan but for what it's worth I really like the new single, I'm not sure why it's getting so much negativity on here?

The Stargate/Sia/Pink song, however, is underwhelming, I was expecting much bigger things from it sad.gif

I have to agree with Ed, with Mother's Day which falls on the last Sunday of March. Not sure how long the album tracks will clutter up the chart, I'm hoping some of those will start to fade away a bit.

I mean, Steps' new song is better than expected, but their back-catalog has not aged all to well for me. I do find it odd, that with pop music struggling the GP are choosing Steps as their heroes, especially when All Saints' fantastic new music got nothing of the same reaction. This is better than anything by Ed Sheeran, though so in no way can I complain. I do think Steps'll probably free-fall on iTunes before long though, but will probably make the top 30.

I think people want something fun and different.

Also All Saints didn't particularly come back with a bang the way Steps have and it's only 6 years since the last Steps 'comeback' where they had a huge sell out tour and #1 album so their fan base is probably still there compared to AS who disappeared for 15 years.

GO STEPS! cheer.gif I really hope they can defy all the odds with this. ohmy.gif Would be so richly deserved.

Also re: All Saints, they had what could conceivably considered their 'comeback' in 2006 and got a top 3 hit out of it, but the album being a widely acknowledged and reported flop really tarnished them and killed any future chance they'd ever have from that point.

A year later, it seems to be working *__*

Remember that Steps won't have good streaming because their demographic don't generally stream and the single is low down on the New Music Friday playlist.

It will probably just make the top 40, still impressive mind.

The way it's rising on iTunes though I wouldn't be surprised if it had a big lead by the end of the day though. Who knows, they could do 30,000 downloads this week and make the top 10.

Agreed but the fact they have shifted 'Galway Girl' off the top is huge - am sure they will be on a blaze of promo now and the media will be all over this which will encourage people to seek it out on streaming services. Official Top 10 on the way?! cheer.gif

By the end of 2001, surely? They had a success with their cover of 'Chain Reaction' in 2001 and I'd say S Club 7 definitely overshadowed them in the 2000-1 period.

Posted by: ___∆___ Mar 10 2017, 01:29 PM

^^ I always thought Steps held their own back in the day - 14 consecutive Top 10 singles, 4 Top 5 albums, huge arena tours, endorsements etc., their 2011 comeback was huge they just didn't have any new music to back it up and I think the success of it caught them off guard and we'll just quietly forget about the Christmas album disaster.

Seems like they are self releasing again - sure there are some record companies kicking themselves today!

Posted by: Liаm Mar 10 2017, 01:31 PM

Lmao at Steps being #1 on iTunes in 2017 *_*

Posted by: Knightr634 Mar 10 2017, 01:32 PM

S Club 7 were I guess seen as the bigger band, I guess mainly as they had fewer singles but the singles they did release there was a period when it went #1 #1 #1 #2 whereas Steps had many more singles, but two hit #1 and there was a gap of nearly 2 years between those. I think S Club may have been bigger internationally too, but not sure.

Album wise, I don't think any of S Club albums came close to the numbers Steps made, in 1999 Steps sold more albums (Step One and Steptacular) then any other British band and they were a tour-de-force when it came to touring. So although at first glance S Club 7 seemed the bigger band, the reality is they weren't really.

Anyway, I'm over the moon Steps are #1 on ITunes. If my dreams came true, and they were #1 officially, I'm pretty sure they would be the first boy/girl ever to have #1 singles in 3 consecutive decades.

Posted by: 777666jason Mar 10 2017, 01:32 PM

Fantastic to see steps at number 1 hopefully it can hold iTunes number 1 doesn't mean as much as it used to but hopefully they sell enough to do well

Also little mix hurry and promote / drop video almost out top 40 already

#39 Cloudbusting - Just Us. I am quite sure this will make top 40 officially now in a few weeks with R1 playlisting, if so it would be quite an unusual hit, as it sounds more 2005 in its 'dance version of an 80s song' and violin based style than 2017!

Posted by: AcerBen Mar 10 2017, 01:36 PM

I don't agree that S Club 7 were bigger. Perhaps by 2001 with Don't Stop Movin' they overtook Steps, but looking at both careers as a whole, nah.

'5,6,7,8' is a great Eurodance tune, following the trend in the late 90s for cheesy Eurodance, see also Eiffel 65, Aqua and The Vengaboys.

I can see Ant & Dec having a big impact on SOTD. After all, JHud's Spotlight hit the iTunes top 20 and LGRTR of course went to #1 4 years ago (pre-streaming era, I know).

Posted by: ElectroBoy Mar 10 2017, 08:34 PM

I guess it as enevitible that tit would start gaining on them with his Corrs castaway song.

Hopefully ant and Dec will boost steps tomorrow

Think it will return them to #1 (Seeing as it looks like Ed will take over shortly) and give their 'Greatest Hits' a boost.

Not sure what more promo they can do - The have done This Morning and BBC breakfast, they have SNTA tomorrow and Lorraine on Monday.

70 Alex Ross - Dreams (feat. Dakota & T-Pain)

I think this could end up being a big hit - a dance cover of Gabrielle's classic 1993 number 1 hit, with vocals from Dakota off of Jonas Blue's "Fast Car" last year.

I never understand artists decisions at times. Why you wouldn't capitalise on the success of a new single to perform a tired hit is baffling! Let's hope they're doing both.

It's not always their choice though I don't think. Either way, they'll be on primetime TV and have a mention of new music so some sort of boost should happen.

If they don't get #1 or even worse miss the top 40, they'll only have themselves to blame

Posted by: Klaus Mar 11 2017, 05:31 PM

omg its up to producers as to what they sing, SNT is not a really a promo show for new material. I'm certain that, if it was up to them, they would of course be singing their new song but that doesn't fit in with the segment they have been allocated which is basically karoke. How can you expect people to sing along to songs they don't know. laugh.gif

Who knows, they may be performing at the start of the show with their new single anyway.

Yes, unless there is an option for them to sing their new somg in addition to whatever they are there for. Tonight, Steps are performing in the Singalong Live segment where it is basically karaoke with viewers from home having to sing the right words to win momey. Therefore, a well known song is always used. A one day old song is not well-known.

Jennifer Hudson didn't perform her new single two weeks ago because the producers booked her to perform 'Spotlight' for a humorous skit at the end of the show. Little Mix & Jess Glynne didn't perform their new singles last year. The only artists to do so since it returned 4/5 years ago are Michael Bublé, Craig David and Robbie Williams.

I really wish a new prime-time music show was created - not necessarily a Top Of The Pops clone... just a major platform for artists to perform new tracks each week. It'd make the charts far more interesting than what we have at the minute. Spotify playlists have way too much influence.

I'm less sure about this; I've always thought that part of the reason why performances on the likes of X-Factor, SNTA, Graham Norton etc have so much impact is because they get seen by people who wouldn't watch a music-themed show.

This! There really seems to be limited options for artists to promote on TV - only the biggest acts can get a slot on the likes of Graham Norton, shows like SNTA seem to not want artists to promote new releases so what is left - This Morning, Loose Women, BBC Breakfast? Hardly shows that are going to pull in huge sales uplifts.

Its sad how Martin Solveig has now become so generic with this song with the pitched vocal drop in it and everything. I wish he would do another 'Hello' or 'Intoxicated' style track tbh.

Posted by: danG Mar 12 2017, 02:54 PM

I wouldn't call 'Places' generic myself. Just because it has vocal pitching effects doesn't make it generic.

If any song of his is generic it would be 'Intoxicated', that just seemed like him hopping on the future house train (but admittedly it was with his own brand of it rather than being an Oliver Heldens clone, and aside, 'Intoxicated' is a proper tune!)

'Do It Right' deserved all the success that is coming to 'Places' though, that is literally one of my favourite songs of the decade, no exaggeration.

Well I would say the drop is very generic sounding with its chopped vocals (like the recent dance songs By Your Side, It Ain't Me, Call On Me) if not the rest of the song.

The Bush song is very good, they performed it on The Voice. I like the way it says (Bush With Gavin Rossdale) now he is in The Voice, reminds me of 'Hayley Williams (of Paramore)' being the artist credit for Airplanes presumably so that it would appeal more to people who had heard a few Paramore songs but didn't know who the singer was!

I know Steps are dropping but they have managed to stay top 10 for almost 3 full days. What does worry me though is Take That were top 10 on Itunes but had the addition of 12,000 physical sales, Steps dont have that so the best outcome is probably top 30 now which still isnt bad as i expected the single to flop.If Steps promote through the week they may stabilize it even a small bit.

I don't know why I keep expecting good stuff from Zedd, when he always seems to disappoint. I thought after 'Starving' being good (even if generic) his next one would be too though, but I just can't get into 'Stay'.

I'd love it if Capital suddenly playlisted it.

Someone said they're on Lorraine Monday. Not sure what else. It sounds like something Heart would eat up if it caught on - it's already been #1 on iTunes so that should've given them enough reason to play it.

Actually just checked CMR and lots of Heart stations have played it once - I don't know if that's because of some kind of iTunes top 10 chart or not?

On the Big Top 40 they play whatever is in the iTunes Top 10 as the 'official' Top 10, so that would explain its one play. Would be the same case for Capital too!

Actually not that far off. They're both 600-700k but Born This Way sold more. However, Judas was the 2nd single in that campaign anyway. It managed just over 300k.

The problem I have with The Chainsmokers/Garrix/Zedd stuff at the minute is that its not really very dancey and more pop than anything...fair enough it is the future bass era now but why can't more dancey future bass songs that aren't as poppy like Marshmello, Ookay and Noah Cyrus - Chasing Colors become hits.

And they were an evolution from the house music we had during 2013 and especially 2014. I'm struggling to remember which song kick started the Guetta dance-pop trend although even that took influence from Timbaland!

I always trace the "generic club banger" trend back to 'Sexy Bitch'.

Sad to see all the Chainsmokers hate here - they haven't put out a bad song yet and I like how their fab style is rubbing off on other artists.

YES!

Now this is the type of dance hit I can get behind, rather than that Zedd track.

Really hope it can get an official top 10 peak.
