Chart Commentary
Interestingly, the highest new entries this week both come from new Friday releases, and as I compile my chart on Friday nights, it means both Anne-Marie and Katy Perry have scored top 10 hits with less than 24 hours of impact, something which hasn't happened since The Vamps & Matoma entered at #8 with All Night, before climbing to #1 next week. I'll discuss both songs in more detail next week when they are guaranteed to climb, but for now, Anne-Marie scores her third top 5 hit, and Katy her seventh top 10, and the battle begins NOW for #1! The next highest new entry comes from British singer/songwriter Zak Abel. Whilst I've heard a couple of Zak songs in the past (via BJSC), I wasn't particularly keen on them or his Gorgon City collaboration so Unstable marks his first chart appearance this week, entering straight in at #10. Elsewhere in the chart, Swedish singer Ben Mitkus makes his debut at #19 with Heartbreak Love Song, and AlunaGeorge are new at #37 with Not Above Love, the follow-up to #7 smash Mean What I Mean. Future gains a new personal best for the fifth week running, as Ariana Grande's Everyday climbs up to #18. Chase Atlantic, PARTYNEXTDOOR and Sage the Gemini all get new personal bests too. Just missing the top 10 is Mariah Carey, who achieves her lowest charting single to date with I Don't, new at #12. Before now, all of her singles have made my top 10 (excluding Almost Home in 2012 which I never actually heard for a while afterwards), so I Don't is an underperformance for her, but it marks the first chart appearance for featured rapper YG. Hi~ Great to see Martin Garrix slayin' this chart It's also become his eleventh top 10 hit in my chart jumping up to #4 already!
you really get into songs quicker than I do anyway, Anne-Marie already top 5 Sounds quite good anyway, but not something I'm loving. Katy's comeback is quite good too, think I prefer that to Anne-Marie anyway. 'Not Above Love' impacted my chart last year, nice to see that on another chart anyway. |

Hi Joseph!
1. Martin Garrix & Dua Lipa - Scared to Be Lonely - 1-1- 4. Major Lazer feat. PARTYNEXTDOOR & Nicki Minaj - Run Up - 8-4- 5. Anne-Marie - Ciao Adios - 5- ** HIGHEST NEW ENTRY ** Another great single from her! It's just a shame that lyrically it's pretty much the same as Alarm lol but still a cracking song, and I can see it doing just as well as Alarm in time. 6. Zara Larsson feat. Ty Dolla $ign - So Good - 3-6- 9. Katy Perry feat. Skip Marley - Chained To the Rhythm - 9- Was a bit unsure of it on first listen but after repeated listens it cements itself as a little pop banger! Some of the lyrics are a little dubious but then her lyrics often are 10. Zak Abel - Unstable - 10- Heard this the other day but it didn't really do much for me. I like that the title rhymes with his name though 12. Mariah Carey feat. YG - I Don't - 12- Do I think this is good? I don't (sorry) 13. Tinie Tempah feat. Tinashe - Text from Your Ex - 7-9-13- 14. Sean Paul feat. Dua Lipa - No Lie - 32-X-30-35-39-30-21-16-14- 15. Ed Sheeran - Shape of You - 38-1-3-6-10-15- 16. CID feat. Conrad Sewell - Secrets - 16- Oh Conrad's back? Shame he hasn't really taken off, I really like his voice. Will have to check this out. 17. Tiėsto feat. Bright Sparks - On My Way - 10-14-17- 20. Dua Lipa - Be the One - 5-6-17-25-40-X-33-X-35-20- ** HIGHEST CLIMBER ** 23. Robin Schulz, David Guetta & Cheat Codes - Shed a Light - 38-1-1-3-4-5-8-13-16-15-19-23- 24. JP Cooper - September Song - 31-13-25-X-28-9-4-7-10-16-20-24- 25. Sage the Gemini - Now and Later - 32-34-25- 30. Little Mix - Touch - 25-1-2-5-6-5-6-7-12-15-17-23-30- 31. Rag'n'Bone Man - Skin - 22-31- 32. Snakehips & MŲ - Don't Leave - 8-13-20-24-32- 33. The Vamps & Matoma - All Night - 8-1-2-3-3-2-5-6-9-12-12-11-14-18-22-19-27-33- ** LONGEST RUNNER ** 34. Louis Tomlinson & Steve Aoki - Just Hold On - 1-2-4-6-11-14-22-29-34- 35. Troye Sivan feat. Betty Who - HEAVEN - 13-17-25-37-X-37-X-8-7-11-17-23-30-X-40-25-30-35- 38. Jax Jones feat. RAYE - You Don't Know Me - 18-9-8-12-25-38- 39. Sia - Move Your Body - 38-36-29-36-39- 40. Ed Sheeran - Castle on the Hill - 40-2-7-14-26-40- ** FASTEST FALLER ** Excellent chart |

Hey Dan, thanks for commenting That sounds pretty quick for your chart! Songs definitely tend to impact my chart quicker, I played Ciao Adios loads of times between midnight and ~6pm when I type up my chart on Fridays so it would've felt ridiculous to not include it really! Not Above Love has felt very low-key, seems Radio 1 has totally abandoned them now shame, it's a really good song! Hi Joseph! 1. Martin Garrix & Dua Lipa - Scared to Be Lonely - 1-1- Great Number one yet again! 4. Major Lazer feat. PARTYNEXTDOOR & Nicki Minaj - Run Up - 8-4- Got an album coming out, this is my fourth 5. Anne-Marie - Ciao Adios - 5- ** HIGHEST NEW ENTRY **This could be a grower for me 9. Katy Perry feat. Skip Marley - Chained To the Rhythm - 9- This is pretty great to be honest 12. Mariah Carey feat. YG - I Don't - 12- So good I dont get the hate for it 20. Dua Lipa - Be the One - 5-6-17-25-40-X-33-X-35-20- ** HIGHEST CLIMBER ** YES MASSIVE CLIMB :heat: 37. AlunaGeorge - Not Above Love - 37- This is a good single choice Great Chart Hi Harry, thanks for commenting 4. Got an album coming out, this is my fourth 5. I hope it is! 9. It's fantastic 12. It's good but Mariah is definitely capable of better this is from the same woman who gave us songs like Fantasy and All I Want For Christmas Is You after all! Hi Joseph great chart and as you know i love Benjamin Peltonen, so great to see him in your chart. Heya Maurice, thanks for commenting Benjamin's dominated my chart in the past year and a half! Hiya! 1. Martin Garrix & Dua Lipa - Scared to Be Lonely - 1-1- Fantastic #1! Martin's best song & Dua's best song 3. Chase Atlantic - Right Here - 7-3- This to slay for you <3 4. Major Lazer feat. PARTYNEXTDOOR & Nicki Minaj - Run Up - 8-4- Got an album coming out, this is my fourth [2] 5. Anne-Marie - Ciao Adios - 5- ** HIGHEST NEW ENTRY ** I need to return to this and see how I feel about it ;o only one play so far and as you know it wasn't instant love ;o 6. Zara Larsson feat. Ty Dolla $ign - So Flop - 3-6- 9. Katy Perry feat. Skip Marley - Chained To the Rhythm - 9- I hope this can be chained to your #1 spot next time! 12. Mariah Carey feat. YG - I Don't - 12- Know Her x 18. Ariana Grande feat. Future - Everyday - 37-28-27-21-18- Stealing Mel B's hair apparently x 20. Dua Lipa - Be the One - 5-6-17-25-40-X-33-X-35-20- ** HIGHEST CLIMBER ** Be the Twenty 30. Little Mix - Touch - 25-1-2-5-6-5-6-7-12-15-17-23-30- Still my #1 32. Snakehips & MŲ - Don't Leave - 8-13-20-24-32- *Insert leaving pun here :') 35. Troye Sivan feat. Betty Who - HEAVEN - 13-17-25-37-X-37-X-8-7-11-17-23-30-X-40-25-30-35- Are you sure you're a fan? xoxoxox 40. Ed Sheeran - Castle on the Hill - 40-2-7-14-26-40- ** FASTEST FALLER ** Too low ;o fell down your chart too fast ;o Terrific chart, always is! Hi Jay, thanks for commenting 1. I think I'm inclined to agree on both counts! Definitely my favourite Garrix track so far, Dua has more competition but I think this is reigning supreme over Mwah now. 3. Yes pls *.*! 4. Got an album coming out, this is my fourth 6. Poor cow x 9. Wait and see 18. !!!! Mel B's impact being FELT *.* 20. Be the Twenty 35. Excuse me, I am THE Troye fan of teh seeeeet x 40. Poor hen overshadowed by his superior song atm :') x Hi Joseph, Nice entry for Katy Castle On The Hill dropping like a rock Nice to see someone that likes Manel People in Spain are crazy right now with Eurovision, they even want to discuss it in the parliament Hey Seltin, thanks for commenting! Manel's getting a really hard time, it's a shame The national final may have been rigged but some of the tweets I've seen about Manel are pretty nasty. Shame, he's very talented and the song is amazing! Hi Joseph! 5. Anne-Marie - Ciao Adios - 5- ** HIGHEST NEW ENTRY ** Another great single from her! It's just a shame that lyrically it's pretty much the same as Alarm lol but still a cracking song, and I can see it doing just as well as Alarm in time. 9. I don't (sorry) 16. CID feat. Conrad Sewell - Secrets - 16- Oh Conrad's back? Shame he hasn't really taken off, I really like his voice. Will have to check this out. Excellent chart Hey Mango, thank you for commenting! 5. Definitely proving why she's one of the most exciting new artists around right now I think I noticed the lyrics being thematically very similar to Alarm! It doesn't bother me anyway, such a fantastic track and I think I might go as far as to say I prefer it to Alarm already 9. It's such an earworm, it keeps hitting me on each play the lyrics definitely feel secondary in most Katy songs, coming after a great tune and melody, which this most certainly has! 10. Aww, shame you didn't like it, I hope it grows if you relisten! I also love that 12. It's quite underwhelming by her standards sadly 16. This isn't one of his best features really, it's quite generic, but his voice sounds as great as ever, been way too long since we had something brand new from him! |
