This is a list of Lady Gaga's that were planned to be released as singles by either Gaga herself or the record label, but ended up getting scrapped or replaced for various reasons. Please share your views or if I've missed anything out, do share...

Starstruck (Ft Flo-Rida) [The Fame]

Planned as the 2nd single from 'The Fame', but the singles were reconsidered after 'Just Dance' began gaining popularity

Beautiful Dirty Rich [The Fame]

Another 'The Fame' track that was gonna the 2nd single and even had a music video shot for it, but ended up getting replaced with 'Poker Face', when it was deemed more popular by the label and public. However this did end up being used as the album's first promotional single and even managed to chart in the UK on digital downloads.

Boys, Boys, Boys [The Fame]

Intended to be the 5th and final single from her debut album 'The Fame', but was scrapped due to the earlier release of her next album 'The Fame Monster' and 'Bad Romance' was chosen as her next single.

Monster[The Fame Monster]

This was intended to be the 2nd single from "The Fame Monster", but was replaced by 'Telephone' and there was even a remix to accompany it titled the 'Chew Fu "Paws Up" remix, however due to track not getting a commercial release as intended the remix ended was shelved for two and half years, until it leaked online in 2013.

Dance In The Dark [The Fame Monster]

I'm sure everyone knows about this one, this was the label's choice to be the album's 3rd single, but there was a dispute between Gaga and the label as she wanted 'Alejandro' to be released instead. It was later released as a digital download and radio only release in Australia, New Zealand, Belgium and France as the album's 4th single. There was no official release for it outside of these countries or received a physical format either and confirmed by the label that there will be no music video shot for it, despite the massive popularity the song had.

Speechless [The Fame Monster]

Lady Gaga really tried to gain support for it to be released as the album's 4th single, and she even mentioned in interviews that she wanted this to be a single and performed it live various times. But the era stopped unexpectedly after 3 singles.

Marry The Night [Born This Way]

Originally planned as the album's lead single, but was cancelled in favour of the title track, and was then supposed to be the 3rd single, but cancelled yet again, this time in favour of 'The Edge Of Glory'. It eventually became the album's 5th and final single.

ScheiBe [Born This Way]

Lady Gaga revealed that her original choice of singles were "Born This Way", "Marry The Night", "ScheiBe" & "The Edge Of Glory", but according to her Interscope Records didn't allow her to put this track as single as they felt it wasn't commercial enough for radio, so she decided to feature the song on the short film created for "Fame".

Heavy Metal Lover [Born This Way]

In early 2012 Gaga was asked by a fan if she is going to release Heavy Metal Lover as a single, she replied "Yes, I am". This was her pick as the album's 6th single, but Interscope scrapped this plan after the last single underperformed.

Government Hooker [Born This Way]

Lady Gaga said that she wanted to release 10 singles from 'Born This Way', including this and stated that she has many ideas of the music video for the track, however the song was never released as a single. The only video material for the song is VMA 2011 commercial titled Muse Factory. Plus her label Interscope refused to promote them.

Bloody Mary/Black Jesus + Amen Fashion [Born This Way]

Lady Gaga wanted both of these released as singles, and even wanted to do a video for the latter song, but alas Interscope stepped in again and the album campaign ended after just 5 singles.

Aura [Artpop]

This was Lady Gaga's pick as the album's lead single and continuation of 'Telephone', but Interscope changed it to 'Applause' instead.

Venus [Artpop]

Planned as the 2nd single from 'Artpop' with a release date set for October 27th, but was replaced by 'Do What U Want' after it gained a lot more interest, leaving this to serve as the album's promotional singles. This even had a music video planned and charted strongly in several worldwide countries and was intended to be released later, but these plans were scrapped.

Sexxx Dreams/MANiCURE [Artpop]

Lady Gaga asked fans on Twitter which of these they wanted as the next 'Artpop' single, then both intended to be released together as a double a-side single. Bit neither of these got released for unknown reasons.

Gypsy [Artpop]

Interscope Records announced that this was gonna be the album's 3rd single, but a couple of weeks later the announcement plans has shifted and they settled on 'G.U.Y.' instead. It was then planned as the 4th and final single, but after 'G.U.Y.' bombed it was scrapped and no more singles would be released from this era.

A-YO [Joanne]

Planned to be the album's 2nd single, but was replaced with 'Million Reasons' due to its unexpected commercial success.

I can see why many weren’t singles.

I do think Speechless would be been a big album seller even though the album already sold huge of all the tracks on that album that’s the album seller for sure.

ARTPOPs original first two tracks no no no!!! But I would’ve chosen Sexxx Dreams and Manicure.

Scheibe I’d have released over Judas but 10 album tracks with no re release would’ve over exposed her.

Agree with the fame choices. But I prefer boys boys boys to Love Game which was an actual single but Bad Romance needed to be heard.

Thank JESUS Boys Boys Boys wasn't a single.

Is that true regarding Black Jesus Amen Fashion? It wasn't even on all the versions of BTW.

The concept of "single" is a bit tricky as many of these songs were actually instant grats and such, so one would think that A-Yo for example WAS a single and she performed it several times in promo occasions (SNL, Victoria's Secret).

I am quite dubious how accurate a lot of these are.

I am quite dubious how accurate a lot of these are.

The only accurate ones :

- Beautiful, Dirty, Rich : indeed was planned to be the follow up to Just Dance
- Boys, Boys, Boys : There is a video of Gaga during the TMB saying her label wanted her to release BBB as the 5th single but she insisted on Bad Romance
- Dance in the Dark : it's actually quite the opposite to what it says in the OP. Gaga was the one who wanted this to be the 3rd single not her label
- Sexxx Dreams : Gaga mentioned it was planned to be released as the lead single, but was replaced with Applause
- Venus : we all know about this one, as it was officially announced as a single before being switched with DWUW
- A-YO : basically the same scenario as with Venus

everything else is just rumors. During the BTW era she basically mentioned she wanted every song to be released as a single. Remember someone asking her if Hair was gonna be a single and she said "Yes if it gets as good of a reception as TEOG". Yea, it's true she wanted MTN to be the lead single, her label changed her mind. And perhpas she really wanted Heavy Metal Lover to follow MTN as she performed it on the New York's Rockin Eve.

I'll never get over DITD not being made an official single.

And her label wanted Alejandro to be the third single which is why DITD never happened. Imagine the video we could have had.. *sigh*

I think there is a difference between genuine cancelled/changed singles and those that were just potentially up for consideration, which a lot of this thread consists of.

I'm sure there are a lot more songs that were considered at some point in time.
