QUOTE
Helping keep "Space" atop the Hot 100: Swift sang it to open the Victoria's Secret 2014 Fashion Show, which aired on CBS on Dec. 9. She also gave 1989 track "Style" its first televised performance; the song, which had spent a week on the Hot 100 at No. 60 in the same frame that 1989 launched atop the Billboard 200 (Nov. 15), re-enters the Hot 100 at No. 76, returning to Digital Songs at No. 21 (48,000, up a whopping 261 percent). Sources tell Chart Beat that "Style" is likely to be the next radio single from 1989, after "Space" has wrapped its run.

QUELLE SUPRISE

Style as the next single drama.gif

I adore it but its like 8th or 9th best on the album

Posted by: Jayeux Noël 18th December 2014, 06:52 PM

Nah it's one of the main highlights, definitely a worthy third single!

Posted by: mr_aly 18th December 2014, 07:14 PM

I adore it. wub.gif

Still can't get over how good she is this era. ohmy.gif

Posted by: Liаm 18th December 2014, 07:19 PM

This is probably my second choice for a single behind Welcome To New York (based on personal opinion), but I'd say it's probably a better single choice than WTNY. Fabulous song <3

I was really hoping Out Of The Woods would be officially announced as the next single sad.gif Notch massive fan of Style.

Posted by: Jack 18th December 2014, 07:38 PM

Really surprised that theyre not going with Out Of The Woods!

It is okay, maybe it will grow. I Know Places, Wonderland and Wildest Dreams would have been preferred.

Totally agree about Our Of The Woods. Easily the next best song on the album.

Wildest dreams, out of the woods, bad blood, I know places and all you had to do was stay would have been better single choices for me

Posted by: Liаm 18th December 2014, 07:49 PM

Out Of The Woods is SO overrated. It is a 9/10 tbf but it's about 6th or 7th and the album for me maybe and eveyrone acts like it's one of her best songs ever or something sad.gif

Posted by: Jack 18th December 2014, 07:52 PM

Oh it isnt my favourite, it is just the most obvious single choice! Much like how Dark Horse was for Katy Perry (even though Dark Horse is now one of her worst for me).

Posted by: Jack500 18th December 2014, 08:03 PM

I hoped Welcome To New York would be the next single sad.gif

Posted by: ClausofKubrick 18th December 2014, 08:06 PM

Was really hoping for 'Wildest Dreams' but this is very good too after i initially overlooked it. Really anything but 'Welcome to New York' or 'Bad Blood' happy.gif

Posted by: Dane 18th December 2014, 08:17 PM

This is fastly becoming one of my favorites on the album wub.gif Think it will manage top 10 here & possibly top 3 in the US.

Posted by: barbaric_dan 18th December 2014, 09:43 PM

This is gonna be huuuge! Her best single so far this era. Its just too instant!

It's so many leagues ahead of anything else she's done.

Singles should be Woods, Wildest Dreams, How to Get the Girl and maybe Bad Blood.

Posted by: ░░░░ 18th December 2014, 09:50 PM

she has a total goldmine and she can release a good two thirds of the album (as i'm sure she will eventually doing)

if anything saving something even stronger like 'woods' for later on could help it sell the record better (though the singles chart run might be the only thing to suffer)

Posted by: J▲hq 18th December 2014, 10:43 PM

This, much like Blank Space, wasn't one of my instant highlights upon first hearing the album but now it's one that I go back to the most. Sounds like the most obvious single choice to me too, although OOTW isn't far behind in those stakes.

Posted by: Davidson 18th December 2014, 10:46 PM

I also think 'Out Of The Woods' is over-rated. I mean I really love it and would be thrilled if it was a single but the way people act it is like it is so far ahead of the other material on the album when everything is soooo good. 'Style' will do really well I think.

Posted by: mr_aly 18th December 2014, 10:54 PM

'Out Of The Woods' is absolutely incredible and must be released I think. I'd ideally like it after 'Style' but so long as it does get released and doesn't become the 'Walking On Air' of this era.

Posted by: Acoustic 18th December 2014, 10:55 PM

Perfect choice.

My favourite song on 1989 next to Wildest Dreams.

Posted by: jase. 18th December 2014, 10:56 PM

'Out of the Woods' needs to be saved for May/June time. It screams huge summer hit.

'Style' is absolutely brilliant so I'm happy

This! A few extra beats and a few edited vocals and we've bagged ourselves a summer club anthem

I'm not too sure about Style yet, it's amongst my least faves of the album along with You Are In Love and Bad Blood. That could change within a matter of days so we'll see

Posted by: jase. 19th December 2014, 12:35 AM

With all of this what should be the next single talk, here is how she's doing on iTunes..

05. Blank Space
16. Shake It Off
199. Style
598. Wonderland
686. Bad Blood
772. Welcome To New York
834. Out of the Woods
934. Wildest Dreams
992. New Romantics

1144. How You Get the Girl
1266. All You Had To Do Was Say
1269. You Are In Love

Posted by: jazzymina 19th December 2014, 01:31 AM

she has Out of the woods and Wildest dreams and that is the next single? Oh well, hope it does well regardless

Posted by: Ultraviolence1989 12th January 2015, 10:10 PM

I am really starting to love this now but I still would have preferred WD/IKP/BB/NR/OOTW and maybe also W and AYHTDWS

Posted by: Liаm 12th January 2015, 10:11 PM

Yaaaasss, this would have been my first choice aside from maybe Welcome To New York but this makes more sense commercially <3

Fabulous choice heart.gif performance at the Brits too and we have another HUGE hit on our hands.

Posted by: Jonjo 13th January 2015, 01:16 AM

I can see this eventually becoming a massive favourite of mine, from her. It's really growing on me and I think with a video/official single release, it'll really work it's way into my affections and become a firm favourite!

*.* Can't wait!

As far as I'm aware she hasn't performed Blank Space in the UK. I'd love it if she did a 1989 singles medley performance (mainly focused on Style), so Blank Space has its moment to shine here (aside from how well it has done in the charts!). Probably unlikely, but you never know.

Posted by: ░░░░ 14th January 2015, 11:04 AM

i am disappointed as i just cannot warm to this song. i adore the album (it's probably the best pop record since 'the fame monster') but i find 'style' very pedestrian the 'take me out' refrain is the best bit but she does similar refrains better in other tracks on the album ('i wish you would' / 'new romantics')

tbh i'm intrigued to see where she goes with the singles after 'style', she could release anything and it's going to do well. she must have deliberately put two of the strongest tracks from the '1989' sessions as deluxe, it's not an accidental britney a&r move, 'wonderland' and 'new romantics' are amongst the best in her arsenal so i hope she breaks with convention and does a 'super bass' and releases one or both of them please.

Posted by: Ryan. 14th January 2015, 03:39 PM

This is already getting US radio updates of around 3 million, remarkable considering we are supposed to be a month from the "official" adds date. It's already top 30 on Australian iTunes as well.

It will obviously smash hard but it's my least favourite on the main album. I just need them to release Out of the Woods. I could spend hours fangirling about how life changing that song is.

Hell yes! I was listening to it on repeat the other day and it's life affirmingly brilliant. I pegged 'Blank Space' as my favourite thing she's done but that's giving it a real run for its money at the moment.

I adore 'Style' though, I can't wait for that.

I was in NY today and I heard this on the radio :') I think it's pretty much de facto released now, despite the February 10 add date.

It's already top 10 on iTunes in Australia and New Zealand (and will be in the US once all the instant grats/Missy Elliott songs have gone), hope we get news of a video soon!

I think this is the perfect choice for third. Shit is catchy and the verses stick to you just as well as the chorus.

I don't really get the fuss about "Out Of The Woods" it's good, but not even in my top half of the album. Am I the only one that thinks "All You Had To Do Was Stay" is a complete BOP. It's seriously my favorite thing in her discography! Brilliant pop record overall.

video is really quite a letdown. it feels poorly edited and fails to convey the emotion of the song/video concept. feels almost sterile? the first misfire this era perhaps...

Posted by: Ryan. 13th February 2015, 11:57 AM

I actually think it is stunning! Of course it's difficult to follow up the 'Blank Space' video which is possibly one of the best music videos of recent years and the obvious concept for this video would be a 'Teenage Dream' style video while literally incorporating the descriptive language in the lyrics, however Taylor and her team have thought outside the box yet again and given us something very different. The effects in the video are just beautiful and it is all so stylish (excuse the pun) and while it probably won't have as much replay value as 'Blank Space', it's still a great video and credit to Taylor and her team for giving us something unexpected!

It's a decent video, imo. I feel like it needed a little bit more darkness, a bit more grunge. It was obviously meant to be artistic but slightly misses the nail on the head.

6.5/10

Song is still a BOP though.

This is very true. This video is still easily in her top 5 videos.

She didn't really start to shine for me until the tail end of the 'Red' era though. So I haven't checked out every video.

Posted by: mr_aly 13th February 2015, 11:37 PM

It's a nice enough video, I won't compare it to 'Blank Space' as that's one of the best music videos of the past few years.

Posted by: Jonjo 14th February 2015, 01:57 AM

It's such a classy, moody, sensual video. I really liked the feel of it and it most certainly compliments the song gorgeously. It's bizarre how much this song has grown on me over the last few months or so. Never really cared for it much upon the first few listens through the album and when the rumours started circulating that this was gonna be the follow up to 'Blank Space', I was a bit dubious about it actually taking off, but it's such a swift and needed change in tempo for her after the first two singles.

Smash please.

Posted by: It's Lindsey 14th February 2015, 02:46 AM

Style is probably my favourite song from 1989, so the fact there is a stunning music video to go with it is perfect yahoo.gif it's really beautifully shot as well with the broken mirror pieces- I thought that was a really clever idea, I love it a lot wub.gif heart.gif

Posted by: Hooker 15th February 2015, 02:50 PM

Really disappointed with this video. Agree with one of the posters above, I envisaged a video with a similar vibe to Teenage Dream (the song). The visuals in this video just don't fit the song. They imagery is too slow and dark, and in my opinion do not capture the same feeling and energy as the track, namely a free and upbeat one. Should've been something on the east coast highway, or at least cute like the Target advert. I do blame the director, who is clearly a filmmaker rather than a music video director. I'd say Style ranks as one of her worst music videos, which is bitter considering Style is one of her best songs ever.

Posted by: dhwe 16th February 2015, 11:05 AM

I'd argue though that "Style" isn't all that similar to "Teenage Dream". I think they have similarly exhilarating choruses, but imo in "Style" there's an essential tension in the verses that just isn't there on "Teenage Dream", and I think that's what the video tries to capture.

Posted by: THEO. 16th February 2015, 08:58 PM

I'm not a huge fan of the video but you cannot deny that the imagery is stunning. http://www.buzzfeed.com/elliewoodward/you-got-that-james-dean-daydream-look-in-your-eyes#.yc5k3Z08mb have written a great article on it.

For me though, that tension is sexual - in a sexy, anticipatory kind of way. The dark visuals last throughout, save for the flashbacks during the final chorus (which is the best moment of the video). I do realise that Taylor may have wanted to paint a picture in light of that relationship currently, but it's a bit of a cheap shot. As she said in an interview about the song, the art form should capture the zeitgeist of the feeling as it was then, rather than now.

And the video is flopping as a result: Blank Space had double the amount of views as Style at this point of release. I'm certainly not hitting replay like I did with BS.

Posted by: dhwe 18th February 2015, 12:39 PM

I think it was always gonna be hard to follow "Blank Space" laugh.gif I do see your point though. The visuals don't really translate the push-and-pull between the verses and the chorus in the song.

To be fair though, I never really thought her videos before "Blank Space" were essential in appreciating her music, and I think part of that is because this era is the first time her singles truly dominated the conversation (she's had legitimate smashes before but I'd argue they didn't so singularly command attention until this era), and I guess now, especially after "Blank Space", she's kind of expected to make Pop Star Videos all the time which has never really been her strength.

Posted by: JSG 19th February 2015, 10:10 PM

Style has grown on me so much over the last couple of weeks. Actually such a good single choice and fee video is her best yet tbh.

Posted by: Joe. 20th February 2015, 09:43 AM

It should hopefully still go top 10 (on iTunes at least), it's still only C-list on Radio 1 and it's gaining quite consistently on iTunes! I did hope it would take off as quick as 'Blank Space' but when you've sold so many albums it's very difficult to sell lots of singles as well as you get further into an album era (unless you are Ed Sheeran or Sam Smith of course).

Of course at this stage streaming would really help as I'm sure 'Style' would be top 10 on streaming by now considering how well 'Shake It Off' did on Spotify. I feel like Taylor is "in" with iTunes and Apple though (especially after reports of Apple buying her record label), I wouldn't be surprised to see their new streaming service get Taylor as an exclusive or something to help it take off.

Blank Space

I was expecting her to perform 'Shake It Off' which has more than had its time, so I'm glad about that at least.

'Style' will probably get some kind of boost from it anyway.

Blank Space

To be honest I would prefer a blank space performance over style (it would be amazing though if she could perform all 3 at the end of the show though)
