I begin the darts thread.

With this:

From BBC Sport Website:

QUOTE
Former world darts champion Richie Burnett has been banned for 18 months after testing positive for cocaine.

Welshman Burnett, 48, won the British Darts Organisation (BDO) title in 1995 but was removed from the 2015 PDC World Championship for "personal reasons".

It can now be revealed Burnett failed a drugs test and had an appeal against an 18-month ban, which runs from 3 November 2014 to 2 May 2016, dismissed.

He tested positive for cocaine at a PDC Grand Slam qualifier in Wigan.

Burnett, from the Rhondda Valley in South Wales, won the BDO World Masters in 1994 before claiming the world title the following year.

He has played on the PDC circuit for more than a decade and tested positive for the presence of benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine, following an in-competition test at Robin Parks Sports Centre in Wigan.

UK Anti-Doping (Ukad) said Burnett was suspended from all sports for 18 months, and an appeal against the ban had been rejected.

Burnett would normally have received a two-year suspension, but this was reduced because of mitigating circumstances he offered to the anti-doping tribunal.

Burnett said he was grateful the suspension had been reduced to 18 months, but argued the ban was effectively two years and two months because he would miss PDC qualifying in January, and be unable to compete and earn money until January 2017.

"All athletes adhere to the principle of strict liability. No matter what the circumstances, they are solely responsible for any prohibited substance found in their system," said Ukad legal director Graham Arthur.

"This can be challenging for athletes, as the onus falls to them to prove how, and why, their sample tested positive, and to show there was no significant fault."

At his appeal, Burnett cited the recent case of Hull City footballer Jake Livermore, who was not banned by the Football Association after testing positive for cocaine following the death of his newborn child.

The exact details of mitigating circumstances in the darts player's case have not been made public, but the appeal panel ruled there were "clear differences" with Livermore's situation.

yay darts thread....many years ago, here at a local pub in the US, I was just messing about throwing some darts for the fun of it, and was approached by someone who asked me if I'd be interested in having a go at 501 double in/out....I said sure, why not....came to find out after having my arse handed me the third time, this guy who asked me if I fancied a go was a former Canadian darts champion....don't recall his name, sadly, as it was 25/26 years ago now...

Don't really get much on telly here in the US about any darts tourneys....

Posted by: Mack Jan 30 2016, 12:23 PM

This weekend we have The Masters live on ITV4. For the Top16 players. Anyone going to be watching this?

Posted by: Mack Jan 30 2016, 09:24 PM

Adrian Lewis losing to Kim Huybrechts 10-4. Quite a shock there.
A real complete choke there today in the match between Thornton and Chishall with Thornton being 8-0 up and losing 10-9.

Posted by: Mack Jan 31 2016, 03:43 PM

Cracking stuff here between Taylor and Wright in the quarter-finals. Currently 9-8 to Wright.

EDIT- Taylor wins 10-9 at the end with back to back 180s in the last leg.

Posted by: Mack Feb 4 2016, 07:00 PM

Gary Anderson has pulled out of his Premier League match with Adrian Lewis due to illness.

Does anyone watch the Premier League darts by the way?

Posted by: Dobbo Feb 4 2016, 07:48 PM

I keep half an eye on it but I don't follow it proper. Just the knockout tournos for me.

Posted by: Mack Feb 9 2016, 06:57 PM

BBC will be showing the new Champions League of Darts which will be held on 24th and 25th September in Cardiff. Surprising news really considering BBC have always had a long association with BDO. This will that the BDO version will not be on the BBC anymore from next year after 38 years.

Posted by: Mack Feb 11 2016, 08:32 PM

2 out of 2 for Peter "Snakebite" Wright in the Premier League match with a 7-5 win over Van Barneveld. Only a 88 average from Wright though.

Make that 3 out of 3 for Peter Wright after a 7-4 win over Wade.

In the other match, Dave Chishall and Terry Jenkins draw 6-6 at Dublin.

Was at the inaugural Cheltenham Masters Event last night and it was amazing. Even got to meet MVG and get a signed picture!

Posted by: ukchartstatsfan Mar 4 2016, 10:15 PM

Anyone watching this weeks UK Open darts with a random cup draw on ITV4?

Posted by: Mack Apr 18 2016, 02:36 PM

Anyone been watching the World Matchplay this week?

Posted by: Ðøßßø Jul 21 2016, 08:27 PM

Of course! MVG looking extremely impressive so far including that 10-0 whitewash of Caven in Round 1 but equally Gary Anderson looking strong looks like it'll be them 2 in the final but never rule out the Power!

Posted by: Ðøßßø Jul 23 2016, 09:57 AM

Taylor & Anderson both getting through close encounters to make it a Semi-final billing of the top 4 seeds.

Still very much MVG vs Anderson final for moi.

Posted by: Mack Jul 23 2016, 06:36 PM

Good to see Mervyn King and Steve Beaton give Phil Taylor and Gary Anderson a scare. Nice to see Beaton back in a quarter-final. I'm expecting a MvG v Anderson final as well.

Did you see this Dobbo?

Posted by: Ðøßßø Jul 23 2016, 09:26 PM

I did yes, very needless the whole situation but proved for a hilarious few couple of legs! Lewis loves running his mouth but Price wasn't backing down either with ended up in a bit of a stinker of a game really.

Absolute masterclass from The Power tonight brushing aside Gary Anderson with consummate ease. Quite the showdown with MVG in the final it should be a cracker!

Posted by: Mack Jul 23 2016, 09:33 PM

That game with Lewis & Price was pretty crap.

Can never write off Phil Taylor can you?

Really looking forward to MVG v The Power tomorrow.

Posted by: Ðøßßø Jul 24 2016, 04:09 PM

Sadly I'll have to switch off this tonight (because Robot Wars most certainly takes priority) but will record & watch rest straight afterwards.

My prediction is a tight game which will end with MVG winning 18-15.

Posted by: Ðøßßø Jul 24 2016, 07:43 PM

Dominant display from MVG winning 18-10 to make it back to back matchplays!

Posted by: OutstandingMixer Jul 24 2016, 08:00 PM

Phil Taylor has been acting like a complete bellend tonight. Embarrassing to watch.

Phil Taylor has been acting like a complete bellend tonight. Embarrassing to watch.

Missed the match as I was watching Robot Wars. What happened?

Posted by: Ðøßßø Jul 24 2016, 09:23 PM

Well there was a bit of gamesmanship throughout the later stages with Taylor staring MVG out & dancing with the crowd during legs but I've seen a lot worse and it didn't detract from the match. MVG just got on with it & the better player won on the night!

Posted by: Mack Aug 30 2016, 06:26 PM

Is this the slowest darts player you've ever seen:

Posted by: Ðøßßø Aug 30 2016, 07:35 PM

Saw that video rotf.gif makes Justin Pipe look like Rapid Ricky Evans!

Posted by: Mack Sep 9 2016, 08:12 PM

Looking forward soon to PDC darts on the BBC with the Champions League in a couple of weeks time.

Posted by: Ðøßßø Sep 9 2016, 08:13 PM

As am I! Will be going to the final & cannot wait.

Posted by: Mack Sep 9 2016, 08:17 PM

Cool. I hope you have a good time. Never thought I would see the day where BBC would showing PDC darts as they've for me always been pro-BDO.

Here's a look at the groups:

Group A:

Michael van Gerwen
Phil Taylor
Peter Wright
Robert Thornton

Group B:

Gary Anderson
Adrian Lewis
James Wade
Michael Smith

Posted by: Mack Sep 21 2016, 10:54 PM

I wonder if BBC would look to broadcast more PDC tournaments if this is successful.

Posted by: Mack Sep 24 2016, 05:57 PM

Great format. Never thought I would see a PDC tournament on the BBC.

Posted by: Mack Sep 24 2016, 06:46 PM

Anyone watching the Champions League of Darts on BBC2 currently?

Posted by: Mack Sep 25 2016, 10:01 PM

A good win for The Power. Not sure about his interview after his semifinal win over Wade over comments about BBC, ITV and Sky.

Posted by: Mack Oct 4 2016, 07:58 AM

Anyone been watching the World Grand Prix of Darts at all?

Posted by: Mack Oct 5 2016, 07:04 PM

Quite a shock there in Phil Taylor being knocked out of the first round by Steve West.

Posted by: Mack Oct 6 2016, 08:21 PM

Bit of a disappointing figure with 850,000 watching the Champions League of Darts final between Phil Taylor and Michael Van Gerwen on the BBC.

Posted by: Mack Oct 8 2016, 10:20 PM

Another World Grand Prix title for Van Gerwen. What a player he is.

Anyone gonna be watching the European Championship tomorrow?

Posted by: JigsawSawMan Oct 30 2016, 10:13 PM

MvG in terrific form tonight in the final of the European Championship. He averaged over 100 in each of his matches throughout the tournament.

Posted by: Mack Nov 6 2016, 07:01 PM

Currently watching the semi-final and final of the World Series of Darts

MvG v Chisnall
Wright v Taylor

Posted by: Mack Jan 27 2017, 11:18 PM

Phil Taylor has announced that he will be quitting the Pro Tour after the world championship next year

Posted by: Dobbo Jan 28 2017, 11:41 AM

Massive news that & I think for this time he's definitely serious about it kink.gif

Be seeing him at the Cheltenham Masters next month but I'm now more determined to get tickets to the big events than ever.

Posted by: Mack Jan 30 2017, 01:15 PM

Another title for MvG as he beats Gary Anderson 11-7. He continues his winning streak.

Posted by: Mack Feb 8 2017, 08:52 AM

Has a point here MvG as he says that Taylor should be retired in 2015:

http://www.skysports.com/darts/news/12288/10759514/michael-van-gerwen-says-the-time-has-come-for-phil-taylor-to-retire

Posted by: Cabaye Feb 13 2017, 06:01 PM

No-one can stop MVG when he's on full mode.

Posted by: Mack Feb 20 2017, 01:19 PM

People should realise that MvG isn't going to shake hands with Klaasen after events.

Posted by: Mack Mar 3 2017, 07:30 PM

For the first time since the Player's Championship in 2014.

They'll be a winner apart from Michael Van Gerwen on a ITV4 darts tournament. As he has pulled out of the UK Open due to a back injury.

Posted by: Cabaye Mar 3 2017, 08:05 PM

It gives someone else a chance. I hope Snakebite wins the UK Open.

And he did by beating Price 11-6 in the final.

He really did play very well did Peter Wright.

That quarter-final match with Barney was a classic.

Posted by: Mack Mar 30 2017, 11:48 AM

Kim Huybrechts to miss tonight's match in Cardiff against Peter Wright due to taking care of his terminally-ill mother.

Posted by: Mack May 8 2017, 12:18 PM

Would be great to see if Peter Wright and MvG both played at the top of their game. That would be some match.

Posted by: Mack May 19 2017, 07:50 AM

Peter Wright missing 6 match darts on double 8 to beat MvG in the Premier League Final. He lost 11-10. He was 7-2 up at one point.

Posted by: Dobbo May 19 2017, 08:17 AM

Really? Wow! I meant to record this as was out but ended up forgetting, I'll search for some highlights, that sounds quite the bottlejob that does.

Posted by: TroyTempest May 19 2017, 09:34 PM

He completely bottled up may have missed the best chance to beat MvG. Mardle said he won't get bottleitis just before he had the darts to win and then he crumbled.

Posted by: Mack May 23 2017, 12:23 PM

ITV4 will again be showing delayed coverage of the World Series of Darts tomorrow in Dubai.

It should be Lewis and Chizzy for the World Cup for England not Taylor & Lewis but most likely will be.

Posted by: Mack Jun 18 2017, 11:20 AM

Good to see Steve Beaton win his first PDC tour win for 4 years at Wigan.

Great win for Mensur Suljovic who beat Gary Anderson 11-9 in the final. I saw this. He was absolutely delighted to win it.

He beat Anderson twice, Peter Wright, Barney and Chisnall in a thriller where he took out 160 to win it.

More antics from Phil Taylor against MvG in their group match there. Didn't look for him against Gary Anderson.

Anyone going to be watching the World Grand Prix on Sky Sports which kicks off on Sunday?

Posted by: HobDoblin Oct 3 2017, 10:11 PM

Me biggrin.gif

Quite a few shocks so far in this! But there's always that chance in such a quickfire format. Draw is wide open, possibly time for Snakebite to win a big event & I think Gurney is definitely one to watch too.

Posted by: HobDoblin Oct 5 2017, 10:31 PM

You would have got pretty incredible odds had you called that Semi Final line-up! I'm thinking it's gonna be a Gurney vs. Suljovic final myself, 2 players that have steadily been on the up for a good while now.

Posted by: HobDoblin Oct 9 2017, 08:12 AM

Congrats to Daryl Gurney, first major title. Was a great final too, deservedly going all the way into the final set.

Posted by: HeadlessJockey Oct 9 2017, 11:58 AM

What was that bump incident about at the end of the fourth set with Gurney bumping into Whitlock.
