Just over 7 weeks to go until it's released. It'll be exciting to have a build up to a Taylor release again after the previous two studio albums were surprise releases (which of course was incredible in its own way - but it'll be fun to see how Taylor builds the hype for Midnights over the coming weeks).

It’s a shame Taylor is releasing the same week as the Arctic Monkeys as it’s a strong probability that this album could end the run of #1 albums in the U.K.

I know it’s not a direct comparison etc but one must prepare for Taylor’s run of #1 albums possibly coming to an end…
Red TV massively outperformed my first week expectations. With this being a whole new studio album there may be even higher first week sales this time around.
It would be nice if both albums could go to #1 at some point. Folklore and Evermore both had more than one week at #1 so if the release schedule in the initial weeks after release aren’t too busy maybe whoever doesn’t debut at #1 may climb there? However, that may be because of those albums being surprise drops and different formats coming at different times what resulted in more than just the one week at #1 in the UK.
Quite an interesting battle though. I imagine both will stream well too in opening week but I’d imagine Taylor could have the edge on streams overall although Arctic Monekys do well on streams especially the AM album.
Is the chart battle likely to just be in the UK?
I think the Arctics will get week 1 but Taylor will stand a good chance in week 2 when streaming becomes more of a force.
It’s not a certainty though, both could land anywhere between 30-80K imo

honestly although all the alternative covers are pretty, the og cover is my fave. what draws me to them is the vinyls themselves. i don't collect them cos i dont have a record player but all of them are so gorgeous! i've preordered the standard cd and cassette for my cd collection, and still trying to choose out of the 3 alternative covers. might hold out for now and hope shes doing a signed cd album down the line

No singles this week, the limited editions sale has been extended til 4:59an Wednesday 😂 wonder if we’ll get a single announcement then with it coming on either the 16th (BLACKPINK’s album is the only major release I think) or the 23rd (no major releases afaik), which probs makes more sense then this week with Capaldi’s return + rumoured Paramore album drop

tbf, folklore & evermore did extremely well and they were announced hours before, midnights has had months, so many variants, signed inserts. plus theres been anticipation with the whole not knowing track names, and then midnight mayhem, so i think it has enough hype. if she releases the single next friday, i think that'll be the best option so fingers crossed

it depends on the direction of the record though right... there's no denying cardigan and willow wouldn't have been as successful without the hype of their album already being out as people were listening to the album and then those select singles. i think the 'Me' rollout has scared her a bit.
To be honest I think her choices for lead singles in many cases are a shambles. I hated and still to this day hate Shake It Off, Look What You Made Me Do and Me!, the last time I actually liked a lead single of hers was We Are Never... (not inc. Cardigan/Willow, they didn't really count, I love both of those)

When she announced the album at the end of August I did assume we'd at last get a single in advance of the album, like Beyoncé with Break My Soul. Yet she's essentially done another folklore and evermore, just with an extended period of pre-orders.

I'm really disappointed D: It's not terrible but it's giving me False God/Dress/Delicate the album and that kind of thing is just never really my vibe. Karma, Anti-Hero, You're On Your Own Kid and Lavender Haze are great though. Vigilante Shit stands out as a grower too but I think it will be divisive. By no means is it bad like I said, I just am never a fan of this subdued electropop sound but it's kind of what I expected. Sweet Nothing is lowkey one of her worst songs ever oop. Maybe it will be a grower as it's a more subtle album but at the moment this is the least I've enjoyed an album since debut...

I hate to say it but I am not loving this album on first listen, I do think Anti-Hero is for sure the best choice as the lead single though, it's definitely the strongest. Anti-Hero is the only song that stands out to me... the rest of the album is all very average IMO. Even some of the lyrics are shocking by her standards, "Karma is a cat purring in my lap cause it loves me" like, WTF? Hoping it will grow on me, to be fair I didn't like Reputation at all initially but I grew to really enjoy it. Waaah, I'm sad, I really thought I was going to love it instantly after hearing the 10 second clip of Anti-Hero yesterday!

Yeah a lil disappointing on first listen but was kind of expecting it after all the reactions. Nothing immediately hit me on first listen (bar karma, but still not as much as songs on Tay albums usually do) which is so rare for a Taylor album, I hope everything grows quick (gonna be interesting to see how it goes, the Taylor songs with these kind of sound are never instant for me and either become all time Taylor faves like delicate, or fan faves I still do not get the hype around like false god). Tho it’s still a great album, nothing I dislike, and still probs album of the year.
Also doesn’t help I’m shattered and need to be up in 4 hours fml. Expecting to wake up to a tour announcement!

This is INCREDIBLE!! The production is stunning. It's perfection, simple as.
Going to do a review later but it's like a mix of everything that's great about Taylor with some modern production that she has never used. Anti-hero will be a classic.
It’s lacking a bit of what made Taylor’s other albums special for me in the lyrics and melodies but there are a few stand outs at this point for me. I love Maroon and Bejeweled.

Haven’t got time to read everyone’s comments yet but can’t wait to later … Okay, so overall I’m really pleased with this album! I think lowering my expectations certainly helped going in for my first lesson! It’s certainly got its highlights (& only some lowlights for me). I’ll need more time to explore it deeper but I’ve enjoyed the first listen and glad we are back to more of a pop sound - however much I loved a trip into folk land. Can’t wait to finish work today and binge listen.

Really glad we got some Dessner tracks on the 3am version, always love his production work and as much as I really liked the standard album on first listen, I missed his touch a bit. I wasn’t really sure what to expect on first listen and I was ready to be disappointed, but I was pleasantly surprised. Always love her subdued, synthy songs so I think I’ll be going back to this a lot. I don’t think anything will touch folklore and evermore for me, but it’s great to hear her back with bigger production.
Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve may be her best song ever for me.
I'm going to save all the songs that aren't on the standard version for Sunday, I want more to look forward to.
I really enjoyed the album. Lavender Haze, Anti-Hero and Karma were the standouts after the first listen. (Also wasn’t expecting to hear my birthday getting a shoutout in High Infidelity lol)

NME only giving this 4/5 stars is a mess, the album is perfect. Jack has done an amazing job with the production. Thankfully most have given it 5 stars, this will surely be her most critically acclaimed album.
Some people not enjoying it, give it time. It may not have the melodies of other Taylor albums but I genuinely think this was needed for her. And no Me or any awful songs.

THOUGHTS: Idk if it's been preempted by the earlier mixed reviews or not but... I absolutely LOVE this album. But then again, this is the sound I love the most from her! That dark, subtle electro, synth-pop vibe. 'Out Of The Woods', 'Getaway Car', 'Dress', 'Delicate' etc... are all amongst Taylor's very best songs for me. There's nothing that pops off *quite* as much as OOTW or Getaway Car, but they share a similar vibe/style and I LOVE it.
I can't tell if people are loving this album or not. But throw me FIRMLY in the LOOOOVVVVEEEE camp.
I do think I'll stick to the original 13 tracks and just queue the 3 bonus tracks I like though in the future. But I'll see if they grow first.

Already so obsessed and in love with anti-hero, snow on the beach (that chorus is stuck in my head!), karma & vigilante shit (yep this is already over to the faves category, I love the Rep vibes and it feels like it could be a Rep vault track!). Like basically everyone else, would’ve could’ve should’ve is my fave of the 3am tracks.
Also the Apple Music start is insane! I feel like folkmore didn’t hit those highs till like early evening on 1st day iirc

I’m not that huge on the 3am tracks either, Would’ve Could’ve Should’ve is definitely the best of them.
With more listens, the album is growing on me a bit, I think it’s just not what I wanted. I am never that keen on subtle synth pop anyway, so a whole album of it was never going to be my vibe. Anti-Hero and Karma are excellent though and I also really like Snow On The Beach, You’re On Your Own Kid, Bejewelled and Lavender Haze. By no means is it bad, it’s a great album, I just am not a huge album person often and I don’t want “you have to listen to it loads of times to get it and for it to grow on you” from a Taylor album, I’m used to instant highlights and huge faves! It’s the least I’ve enjoyed an album since debut, but I am still enjoying it, I’m just disappointed.

Hits different is a BOP. It’s kinda giving me poppier Fearless vibes. This should’ve def made the album aha, I wonder how long it’ll take for it to be uploaded to streaming (the folkmore bonus tracks were both about 3 weeks later). But the folkmore were bonus tracks on all physical editions whereas HD is a target bonus track so maybe it’ll be more like 1989 (when they hit streaming around the end of the year iirc)

Sweet nothing (piano version) sounds basically identical to the original and is pointless, and you’re on your own kid (strings version) is slightly less pointless but still doesn’t feel too differential from the original to ever go back to that version

Anyway I've had the album on repeat the entire day (unsurprisingly) and I'm fully in love now
Some ramblings after more listens:
Karma/Snow On The Beach/Anti-Hero/Vigilante Shit are all 11/10 moments <3 <3 (with Would've Should've Could've & You're On Your Own, Kid right behind). Bejeweled has been the biggest grower, I can't stop going back to it (it feels like a more refined version of gorgeous). The Great War & Bigger Than The Whole Sky are my other faves of the extra 7 tracks. Nothing I dislike, though Glitch is the most forgettable out of all 20 for me. Midnight Rain/Labyrinth kinda work really well back-to-back and serve me Hard Feelings/Loveless teas.
After some intense listening today, I’ve rated each song. Honestly can’t remember giving this many #10s to one of Taylor’s albums. And I’m really trying not to be a crazy stan.

Looking at my ratings, clearly I’m less of a fan of the more sassy ones 😂
I liked the start and end of the album a lot. Lavendar Haze through to Snow On The Beach are <3, and I like Sweet Nothing and Mastermind too. It's the middle section that will need to grow on me atm. The 3am tracks are all decent, I can see why they weren't on the main album - some sound like classic Taylor as has been mentioned and others sound very different for her (Glitch).
Folklore and Evermore were going to be hard to improve on, but there's potential for growth in a lot of the songs on here, I'm quite happy with it.
First mixed rating from the New York Times (50) bringing the metascore down to 88

Listening to this now. It’s alright, I feel like it needs a bit more oomph in some of the production. In all honestly, I think her production since 1989 has been pretty meh.
I do think this is definitely a vibe though. Very laying in the bath with a candle.

Folklore/Evermore and tbh even Lover were way better than this.
However, the highlights are strong! I really love Anti Hero and coupled with the video, it's a perfect lead single - and really should have got a full single treatment before the album. I'm positive it would've been a huge #1, which I still think is possible but it would've been nice to get its own spotlight!
Other than that, I really love Lavender Haze, Snow On The Beach, Karma and Would've Could've Should've.

I was in the minority who just couldn't really get into folklore and evermore, they were both too samey and beyond a handful of songs across both, the songs blended into one even with repeated listens. I think this is also quite samey in parts but the production grabs me much more so naturally I'm enjoying this, and I feel more inclined to go back to it sooner too.
I think the 20 track full thing is too long, but the 13 track standard was just right (and the 3AM tracks are probably great on their own but my attention span is waning as I'm nearing the end)

Still not competely in love with the album, for me it's more "like" than "love" at the moment

and that she's using here once again, wish she explored new topics lyrically

I feel she’s reached a stage in her career where she’s given up on trying to produce songs that will be sure fire commercial smashes, she’s just using music as an outlet and to tell stories. She’s built up a big enough fan base over the last 16 years that regardless of whether there’s a massive hit attached to the album, she will still blow pretty much any modern day artist out of the water with sales.
I love that there’s 20 songs - especially such high quality right the way through. I don’t feel the need to get to the end each time (although I have a few times) - I just pick up the album wherever I leave it each time.
Is it true there’s a hidden track on the CDs? Maybe I missed someone saying this before.
I loved the folk eras - I’m probably one of the only people who prefers Evermore over Folklore.
But I also love that this album is a progression from 1989, Reputation and Lover. It’s drawn on sounds from those albums and it’s like, hello, I’m your older sister…

I have listened to the album and it did not wow me. There were some great moments (I am so happy 'Anti Hero' is the lead single for example) but I am hoping many of the other tracks are growers. It's certainly no Folklore/Evermore though currently

I’ve heard the standard 13 track album and enjoyed it. It’s definitely a step up from her last two pop orientated records (reputation and Lover) they both had high highs but some skips the standard of this was a strong listen throughout with no skips but I don’t think I instantly loved it as much as I did folklore / evermore which are two of my most listened albums in general BUT I wasn’t expecting another album like that and I appreciate the concept of this; it’s cohesive throughout. Her writing and storytelling though is so strong. I do think Anti-Hero is the most single worthy so can see why that got chosen but I was a fan of the album overall. Vigilante Shit is top tier too! I loved that
I’ll give the 3am tracks a listen too as individual tracks but what I’ve heard I’ve liked.
Definitely expecting her to get the UK #1 album with ease now too! And the chart double is looking good with Anti-Hero looking likely to give her a long awaited second #1 single here too!

I finally took a listen to this earlier and I think I was right to not order it, I can't see me ever playing it really. It's got a nice kinda hazy vibe to it but it all merges a lot for me and it doesn't have the stand outs that her lockdown albums did.

Personally I’d love the second video to be ‘You’re On Your Own Kid.’ Love the song and think it would make a cool video.
As previously mentioned by somebody I do honestly think the ME! release scared her... no lead single since 
LWYMMD and SIO are some of her worst singles IMO too, it really irks me that her most recognised song is SIO, its not at all reflective of her artistry or songwriting ability 
this release schedule does allow her the opportunity to change the lead single, if it does get a 'Me' like reaction
Thankfully for her, she doesn't need to change it as 'Anti-Hero' is the absolute standout and a great, GREAT song!

The album is growing on me considerably even though it is quite samey in parts. Not sure if it may be tough to do from start to end with repeated listens as a result of this. My one main gripe (and it has been since ~Reputation era) is her faux "bad bitch, revenge taking vigilante woman" persona that crops up randomly in songs It seems quite disingenuous and inauthentic. But yeah apart from that, the album is growing and songs like Anti-Hero, Lavender Haze, Maroon et all are stunning. I'm a fan and happy she is SMASHING records out of the park. 
At the moment, my Top 5 are: Midnight Rain, Anti-Hero, Question...?, Bejeweled, You're On Your Own, Kid.

I can't say I'm the biggest Taylor Swift fan in the world, honestly, my first album was Red (Taylor's Version), minus of course hearing her biggest hits everywhere.
I was honestly addicted to Red (TV) and couldn't put it down. I watched the SNL Performance live on TV and gave Folklore, Evermore and Lover a listen and was amazed. It's been hard to find a Taylor Swift song I didn't like.
So of course, with Midnights, I stayed up and listened to the album the evening of the release. It was the first Taylor album I had the fortune of listening to right with everyone else.
I haven't been able to put Midnights down, but I hear a little bit of every album I've heard so far in this album, and then some.
I'm sure Friday Night was like Christmas for most Swifties. I felt like I was a part of something at the same time as everyone else. But, no, unfortunately I was dead asleep by the 3AM Edition launch - but it must have been SO AMAZING for those who stayed up with their besties, gave a few spins, expected to goto bed and NOPE.
Taylor has been so generous with her music, I feel full even with Midnights, Folklore, Evermore, Lover and the two TVs so far, but I cannot wait for more.
I think the challenge is going to be holding off on listening to the other albums that don't have Taylor's Versions yet. I'm ITCHING for Reputation and 1989.
My next task is to make a playlist with all the Taylor songs that make me feel *shiny* somehow (talking about Labyrinth, Bejeweled, mirrorball, gold rush), I just get a rush of calmness with these songs. Taylor honestly does have the best fans as well, everyone I've interacted with has been so amazing.
I think had I listened to Red fully 10 years ago, I would have become a hardcore fan. Big miss on my end
I still need to revisit Evermore, Folklore and Lover more. So much more to discover, I think I’ll be able to hold off (hopefully!)

I like TM for what it is, but it’s definitely the weakest. What a crop of lead singles, I’m an unashamed Shake It Off stan it’s one of my top happy bops, just a fun joyful pop song even if it’s far from the best example of her songwriting or abilities in any form
Also I think You’re On Your Own, Kid might be my fave now, that bridge is a career highlight. I saw a TikTok saying each line or couple of lines was one of her old eras and I was so shook, it makes sense!
