Czech Republic are back again in 2017 after their first qualification with Gabriela this year, which OUTRAGEOUSLY scored zero in the final televote thanks to SVT constantly giving her the worst slots possible. But qualifying in the first place was a fantastic achievement and it means that every active Eurovision country has now appeared in a final which is what we all want!
They are going with another internal selection, I have a good feeling yet again as their new head of delegation seemed to turn things around fabulously this year and I presume he will be staying on for 2017. As I've said in various places, I think Slovakia are on the brink of returning. Another Czech qualification that doesn't get zero points in the televote I think would be the final push RTVS needs so hopefully they can do it! QUOTE Czech Republic’s national broadcaster, Ceska Televizie has confirmed that the country will be present at the Eurovision Song Contest 2017, which is set to take place in Kyiv, Ukraine.
The broadcaster as will choose the act via internal selection, and has already made a call to all international composers to submit their songs, in a length of no more than 3 minutes. The decision will be taken by music experts as well as professionals from Ceska Televizie, and they will first choose the song, and then the artist. Jan Potměšil, Eurovision’s project Creative Director, said that “finding a song that matches the current world music trends and can stand the intense competition at Eurovision is very difficult, so even with Czech artists it is absolutely normal that they cooperate with foreign authors and producers. I am convinced that this wide opening in the song selection will lead to a higher quality on the songs” Last year in Stockholm, the Czech Republic made history, when Gabriela Guncikova took the country to the final for the first time, delivering a powerful performance of her song I Stand. http://escxtra.com/2016/09/15/czech-republ...kyiv-confirmed/ |

This isn't an update since there hasn't been much news out of the Czechs but a fan poll recently had this girl called Lenny as the winner whose debut album came out last September (with plenty of songs on it which are under 3 minutes which is mega convenient) and this one in particular has already been getting a bit of airplay on Italian radio so whoever manages her are obviously interested in pushing her internationally so it stands to reason that Eurovision would be something they're willing to let her do.
(clearly borrowing from the Zayn Malik school of title spelling there) Odds are it won't be her but the Czechs can certainly do far worse! |

Semi 1 is 100% going to be qualifications based on country rather than song. I love ballads but it is going a bit overkill

We already knew this was a ballad so I'm not disappointed in it just because it is a ballad. In fact, I think this is probably amongst the three highest quality ballads we have so far alongside the likes of Anja and Lucie. Bad news for the UK is that this is the first ballad that is fairly similar to Lucie's genre of ballad, both of them are quite minimalist and don't really on vocal gymnastics. Of course Martina may not even make it to the final and Lucie may sound fairly different with her "London Grammar"-esque revamp.
I'm not ruling out qualification for this one, it's in the second half which is less ballad-heavy and either Martina or Kasia will be the last female ballad to perform. I could see 'My Turn' just qualifying with a Hovi Star style vote split (top 5 in juries, bottom 3 in televote). I keep expecting Martina to jump into a Love On Top chorus though with that "Baby it's you" line! |
