Chart Commentary

For the first time in over 2 years, we see a song returning to the #1 spot after previously vacating it. American actor and singer Froy Gutierrez held the top spot for 2 weeks with sideswipe, his debut single, when it first charted in August. This week, it returns to #1 following the news that Froy is attending the Teen Wolf convention WereWolfCon in Brussels next month, which I am attending. I'll be meeting Froy and getting a photo with him, which I am very excited about, and the hype has sent sideswipe back to the top of my chart.

The last time a song returned to #1 was in 2016, when Treat You Better by Shawn Mendes returned for its second week at the top after one week spent at #2. sideswipe becomes only the ninth song to have achieved this in my chart's history, the first being Lucie Silvas' Hide & Seek in 2012. Three songs have returned to the top on more than one occasion - Something New by Girls Aloud and Real Love by Tom Odell each had three stints at the top, while Cheryl's Crazy Stupid Love had four separate one-week stints at the top.

Songs that have returned to the #1 spot
Lucie Silvas - Hide & Seek (2 weeks, 5 weeks)
Girls Aloud - Something New (2 weeks, 5 weeks, 1 week)
The Vamps - Last Night (1 week, 1 week)
Cheryl feat. Tinie Tempah - Crazy Stupid Love (1 week, 1 week, 1 week, 1 week)
Tom Odell - Real Love (2 weeks, 2 weeks, 1 week)
Luke Friend - Hole in My Heart (2 weeks, 1 week)
Frans - If I Were Sorry (4 weeks, 1 week)
Shawn Mendes - Treat You Better (1 week, 1 week)
froy - sideswipe (2 weeks, 1 week)

Climbing for the third week in a row, Freya Ridings' Lost Without You makes its biggest jump yet, climbing 11 places up to #5. It's Freya's only chart hit so far, making it her first top 10 hit and also a new personal best. Freya is joined by Dean Lewis, who also gets a new personal best as Be Alright re-enters the chart at #20, outpeaking the #25 hit Waves.

Making their chart debuts this week are Ava Max, Natti Natasha, Peder Elias and Brendan Murray (as a solo artist), while Roy English returns to the chart after four years under his new stage name Jagwar Twin, his first single as part of this project.

Swedish DJ Alesso has been notching up hits for four years now, but interesting had never cracked my top 10. Heroes (we could be) came close, peaking at #12, while his Hailee Steinfeld collaboration Let Me Go saw him return to the top 20 at the start of this year. His new song REMEDY is this week's highest climber, up 12 places to #6, giving him his first top 10 hit. The song includes vocals from Conor Maynard, who has nine previous top 10 hits, but is annoyingly uncredited on REMEDY.

2014 12 Heroes (we could be) [feat. Tove Lo] | 3 | 12-16-24-32-37-x (5 weeks)
2015 34 Cool (feat. Roy English) | 4 | 34-x (1 week)
2017 19 Let Me Go (Hailee Steinfeld & Alesso feat. Florida Georgia Line & watt) | 1 | 40-x-19-30-x (3 non-consecutive weeks)
2018 06 REMEDY | 3 | 18-6-... (2+ weeks)

Best known as the vocalist on Kygo's global smash hit Firestone, Conrad Sewell has notched up a run of hits in my chart, with all of his singles as a lead artist thus far reaching my top 10. His comeback track Healing Hands peaked at #10 just last month, while he comes back stronger with Changing, new at #7 this week. It becomes his

Three huge names combine to make Electricity, the first major single release from Silk City (aka Diplo and Mark Ronson), alongside Dua Lipa on vocals. Silk City as a duo have never made my chart, although both Diplo and Mark Ronson can add a top 10 hit to their tally individually, thanks to their separate credits too. It's Diplo's second top 10 as a credited artist (plus three as part of Major Lazer), following #4 hit Color Blind with Lil Xan earlier this year. Mark Ronson hasn't achieved a top 10 before, but Uptown Funk came pretty close, peaking at #13 and spending a lengthy 8 weeks in the top 20. It's Dua's eighth top 10 hit, a tally which includes her #1 hit Scared to Be Lonely. All of her chart hits thus far appear on her re-issued debut album, Dua Lipa (Complete Edition), out later this year.

Hey Joseph! Our charts are starting to sync. I've got two song entering on my chart today that you've entered yesterday and I have a couple more that your already charting added to my playlist for this week cheer.gif

1. froy - sideswipe | 1-1-2-4-5-7-1-
4. Troye Sivan - Lucky Strike | 32-2-4- This was added to my playlist for chatting on Sunday so will chart in a week. Great song tbh also the first I've liked from Troye in a while!
6. Alesso - REMEDY | 18-6- ** HIGHEST CLIMBER ** This is getting added to my chatting playlist relatively soon. It's a bop.
9. Silk City & Dua Lipa feat. Diplo & Mark Ronson - Electricity | 9- This is entering today's chart. Dua is certainly racking up the hits this year isn't she!
11. Ruel - Younger | 6-6-2-4-5-7-12-11-

27. Mabel - One Shot | 15-27-
28. The 1975 - TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME | 28- This is also entering my chart today. What a bop! It's such a happy uplifting song and tbh it's not really what I associated with The 1975.

34. Cardi B feat. Kehlani - Ring | 12-16-27-34-

Superb chart yahoo.gif jump.gif

EDIT : I was gonna edit my comments but thought I'd keep them for the humour factor. So many words other than 'charting' which is what I meant to type

Hey there Joseph hi.gif heart.gif heart.gif

'Sideswipe' back at #1 and you've sent an entirely new entry (that was a bit robbed tbh) since then :cheeseblock: that longevity x

Loads of new entries this week ohmy.gif my favourites are 'Electricity', 'Psycho' and 'TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME'!! I was particularly impressed with 'Psycho' as I haven't really been into that much Lauren material, while Dua and The 1975 have a good track record with me.

Great stuff happy.gif

hi Joseph

great to see Silk City straight in the top 10 here, it's also entered straight in at #6 for me! great to hear Dua on another housey track too. dance.gif
quite like the new Alesso song, not the best he's ever done but a big improvement from 'Is That For Me' and 'Let Me Go', hope it's a hit.
Lost Without You is really lovely, nice that it's high in the chart at the moment.
TooTime.. is one of The 1975's better songs for me, shame about its annoying song title though.
Just Got Paid another fab Sigala tune. dance.gif excited for his album.

cool chart!
