BuzzJack Music Forum _ UK Charts _ Collaborations which would explode in the UK chart

Posted by: cqmerqn Feb 10 2018, 08:10 PM

Bit of a silly thread but post collaborations which have not happened yet but would be huge smashes

I’ll start with...

Calvin Harris ft. Drake

Posted by: lewistgreen Feb 10 2018, 08:12 PM

Post Malone / Quavo (obv. since Congratulations has been and gone)

Dua Lipa / Rita Ora

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds Feb 10 2018, 08:21 PM

Anyone who's remotely relevant ft. Drake

Posted by: Dobbo Feb 10 2018, 08:28 PM

Ed Sheeran ft. Drake & Justin Bieber

Posted by: Mack. Feb 10 2018, 08:31 PM

Drake featuring Justin Bieber

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds Feb 10 2018, 08:33 PM

That's a good point:

Lukas Graham ft. Drake & Ed Sheeran
Nico & Vinz ft. Drake & Ed Sheeran
Kaiser Chiefs ft. Drake & Ed Sheeran

Posted by: Seinfeld Feb 10 2018, 08:40 PM

Little Mix ft. Spice Girls

Posted by: lewistgreen Feb 10 2018, 08:43 PM

Marshmello / Camila Cabello

Surely that's bound to happen anyway *.*

Posted by: Rush Feb 10 2018, 08:51 PM

Charli XCX vs. Ellie Goulding - Explode / Explosions (Mashup)

Posted by: Bjork Feb 10 2018, 09:03 PM

Britney ft Drake wink.gif
Christina ft Drake wink.gif
J.Lo ft Drake wink.gif

Posted by: cqmerqn Feb 10 2018, 09:10 PM

I think Drake ft. J Lo would do well but not J Lo ft Drake tongue.gif

Posted by: Simon. Feb 10 2018, 09:27 PM

J.Lo ft Pitbull

Posted by: 777666jason Feb 10 2018, 09:31 PM

Adele ft Ed Sheeran (doesn’t really matter which way round)

Would blow up this forum anyway!

Thinking outside the box a little, I've heard Jax Jones and Mabel are working together... on paper that sounds like a hit in waiting.

Posted by: Mart!n Feb 10 2018, 09:34 PM

Drake feat. Tinie Tempah, Kylie Minogue & Lady Gaga

Kygo ft. Dua Lipa

Posted by: JosephSprayberry Feb 10 2018, 10:03 PM

I think Kygo & Camila Cabello could actually be gold, I really want it to happen now I think about it :')

Posted by: Joe. Feb 10 2018, 10:07 PM

Beyonce Ft Rihanna

Posted by: cqmerqn Feb 10 2018, 10:11 PM

Camila Cabello ft Fifth Harmony

Posted by: danG Feb 10 2018, 10:23 PM

going for realistic ones rather than the likes of Adele & Ed Sheeran (will likely never happen as Adele strictly doesn't do features)

Clean Bandit & Jess Glynne (would probably go top five first week if that happened again) [also; Clean Bandit & Dua Lipa / Clean Bandit & Rita Ora]
Stormzy & J Hus (the two biggest British rappers of 2017)
Drake & Post Malone (instant number one)
Avicii & Zara Larsson (she'd work very well on an Avicii track I think, and it would also spend at least 10 weeks at #1 in my personal chart)
struggling to think of big names Calvin hasn't worked with yet who would work with him, maybe The Weeknd or Kendrick Lamar but both seem rather unlikely (as does Drake).

Posted by: Nick Jonas Feb 10 2018, 10:34 PM

Pitbull ft Britney.

Kygo ftr Adele
Ed Sheeran & Dua Lipa
Justin Bieber & Selena Gomez
Camilla Cabelo Ftr Drake
Calvin Harris ftr Jason Derulo
Ariana Grande ftr kendrick lamar

Posted by: Dexton Feb 11 2018, 02:57 AM

Ariana featuring anyone would explode rigt now though laugh.gif

Calvin feat. The Weeknd is something I can see happening with Calvin’s new sound, and The Weeknd hasn’t shyed from a dance song before

Clean Bandit feat. Dua is also very likely, perhaps with Stefflon Don thrown into the mix for a Rockabye/Instruction hit

How come Adele is strictly “no features”? I understand her music wouldn’t suit a guest Stormzy verse but a duet or even added production from a big name would be amazing

Posted by: Jüpiter Feb 11 2018, 03:54 AM

Calvin Harris feat. Dua Lipa
Jax Jones and Jess Glynne
Bieber and Camila
Drake and Ed
Avicii and Sia

Will Young feat. Gareth Gates
Robbie Williams feat. Kylie Minogue
Busted feat. McFly
The Chainsmokers feat. Coldplay
Rihanna feat. Drake
Clean Bandit feat. Jess Glynne
Calvin Harris feat. Rihanna

All would be amazing if they ever happened.

I don't see why they'd be unlikely given the other people Calvin has worked with recently. Calvin/The Weeknd in particular seems like a super obvious next stop for him if he continues the funk wav sound. Bruno Mars as well.

Drake/Ed Sheeran is one I find harder to imagine tongue.gif again though Ed has worked with similar artists so it could happen some day ~

One big Drake collab that could easily happen soon is Drake/Stormzy, after his recent work with Giggs and Skepta / generally seeming pretty big into the UK rap/grime scene.

Posted by: Dexton Feb 11 2018, 07:47 AM

Ed featured on both Eminem and N.E.R.D’s most recent albums, so realistically a Drake collab wouldn’t be hard to imagine laugh.gif

Posted by: T Boy Feb 11 2018, 10:00 AM

Tbh unpopular opinion but I find collaborations to be overrated these days as they occur far too often.

Sorry, I was being deliberately silly in that post tongue.gif

Perhaps interesting too to think what collabs would have been popular in the past? Going back to my golden age of c.1999-2000:

Sash! feat. Britney Spears
Britney feat. Christina
Boyzone feat. B*Witched
Steps feat. S Club 7
Artful Dodger feat. Eminem
Ricky Martin feat. Robbie Williams
Eminem feat. Craig David
Bob the Builder feat. Richard Blackwood

I'm so terrible, I saw "collaboration" and "explode" and my first thought was Cover Drive and Dappy. laugh.gif It was (briefly) in the UK chart so magic.gif

But realistically my first thought was an Adele/Sam Smith/Ed Sheeran collab, I think we all know how that would turn out.

A running joke at work about overplayed songs is the future 20+ week number one hit single by Clean Bandit feat. Adele & Sam Smith (written by Ed Sheeran and Sia and remixed by Calvin Harris)

Posted by: lewistgreen Feb 15 2018, 08:57 PM

This already exists but not yet released - she performed it last year at Radio 1's Big Weekend!

Much more classic Rudimental than there last couple of songs released! It would probably be huge as well.

Clean Bandit feat. Little Mix !!!!

Posted by: Drpepper Feb 18 2018, 06:08 PM

The ones that explode are usually unexpected and the ones you think will be massive often aren’t that big:

Robbie and Kylie
Gary and Robbie
Coldplay and Rihanna
Gaga and Beyonce
Madonna and Britney

All reasonaby decent hits but I don’t think reach expectations or exploded.

Whereas no-one would have asked for

Daft Punk and Pharrrell
Robin Thicke and Pharrell
Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera
Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars

But these are collaborations that I’d say exploded.

Posted by: Bjork Feb 18 2018, 06:13 PM

shut up, Gaga/Beyonce was huge!!! wink.gif

Madonna/Britney didn't explode cos the song was horrible

in the case of Coldplay/Rihanna it did pretty well
condidering it was the 4th single off the album + the song doesn't even have a chorus, it's like lalalala lalalala on repeat

think Move likes Jagger would have done the same without Christina, not that she contributes much to the song wink.gif

my 2 cents

Posted by: Bjork Feb 18 2018, 06:14 PM

just like the Madonna/Britney
another collaboration that looked incredible on paper
but was a total mess was Shakira/Rihanna
which was due to the song being terrible too

I think Whitney and George Michael's duet in 2000 was hyped up as a potential No.1 too. I remember thinking it would be and the Woolies chart had it at No.1, and then it landed at No.9 and disappeared quickly.

The track wasn't really up there with either artist's best and I suppose a duet between those two would have been bigger paydirt a decade earlier, but still, it was a surprise to see two legends finally team up and then tank like that.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn Mar 24 2018, 11:50 PM

I do feel like with a lot of those big name collaborations, they have the potential to come up with something amazing but just spit out any substandard rubbish they can get their hands on as they're sure it'll sell on name power alone.

It was good when Bob the Builder and Richard Blackwood were a thing tongue.gif

General observation: Big stars don't put out their best efforts on features. For example all best Bieber songs are the ones that he's solo or featured with a "faceless" act. Not the ones with big stars (and man he's done a huge amount of features)

Clean Bandit & Little Mix ft. Ed Sheeran

Posted by: danG Mar 25 2018, 01:11 PM

I really hope Clean Bandit don't go anywhere near Ed Sheeran. Or San Smith. They need to release their Jess Glynne collaboration next to give them another number one to lead the album with.

As much as I dreaded this collaboration occur in real life, I think it might happen sometimes because this collaboration are most likely been expected from GP and of course they're on the same label group (Warner). Same thing can apply to Dua Lipa, Rita Ora and even Charli XCX for the same label sake.

Of course I know these collaboration (and Clean Bandit x Jess Glynne/Clean Bandit x Marina) already happened in the past few years.

I mean it could be something like

Clean Bandit x Charli XCX
Jess Glynne x Marina
ALMA x MO x Zara Larsson x Tove Lo

Okay these might be the most random collaboration but whatever.

Big collaborations are quite often a letdown really.

Britney/Madonna, Beyoncé/Shakira, Shakira/Rihanna, Girls Aloud/Sugababes.

Most of the time it's about the acts wanting to keep the biggest hits for solo purposes, so the collaborations end up with average songs.

Telephone was fabulous of course.

Posted by: JosephAvery Mar 28 2018, 03:26 PM

Not here for Beautiful Liar being considered a letdown when it's a 20/10 song *.*
