BuzzJack Music Forum _ 20th Century Retro _ Oasis - Stand By Me

Posted by: Jester 24th February 2021, 09:15 PM

So Halifax have used Oasis's Stand By Me to good effect in their recent advert (and made it shoot up iTunes).

The second single from the notorious Be Here Now, Stand By Me was released in September 1997 and peaked at number 2 on the official chart, kept off number 1 by Elton John's Candle In The Wind.

For me, the best track from the album and the last truly great classic Oasis single. I think the secret of its success is the harmony of Noel and Liam's vocals in the chorus making it a genuinely uplifting song.

Anyone love this track? Or have you just found it thanks to an advert?

Wonderful track! I would argue that ‘The Importance Of Being Idle’ is a classic Oasis track too!

I'd second that + Stop Crying Your Heart Out

I hated this at the time, it was the beginning of when I started to lose interest in them. I don’t mind it as much now though, I think it’s aged quite well.

Great track, their best single from the 'Be Here Now' era for me.

Yes, one of my faves by them. Great single.

Best single from Be Here Now, even though that's not saying much cos D'You Know What I Mean is Oasis at their worst
and All Around the World is Oasis on autopilot.

my fav from Be Here Now would be Don't Go Away, should've been single 3 or at least single 4

I hate All Around the World but I'm still rather fond of D'You Know What I Mean - especially the later rerecorded version.

what re-recorded version?

Both are good but far too long. Needed 4 min.lopping off each.

Definitely (not maybe) one of their most underrated singles!

It's not significantly different but it's a bit less OTT... I think it was a Noel Gallagher rerecording / production:

(I doubt it will convince anyone otherwise if they think it's awful in the first place)
