Kojo Funds) / 40-x ~ exciting chart hilites > Since the last time I dusted off this thread, BROCKHAMPTON spent a second week at the top with 'NO HALO', just holding off Post Malone's 'Circles' which debuted at #2 to give him his fourth top 5 hit of the year. The following week 'Circles' rose to #1 to give Posty a second #1 following 'Wow.' which topped my first chart of the year, making him the third artist to have multiple #1s this year after Rico Nasty and BROCKHAMPTON. And this week there's another new #1 as my BJSC 118 entry 'Draumadís' by Icelandic darkwave band Kælan Mikla goes straight in at the top. The last time I charted one of my entries at #1 (Rico Nasty's 'Roof') it went on to come second from last in its semi-final, let's hope this one does slightly better 'Circles' retreats to #3 this week, behind last week's highest new entry 'Violence' by Grimes and i_o which debuted at #3 and now rises a place to #2, becoming Grimes' second #2 hit of the year for now following her feature on 'nihilist blues' by Bring Me The Horizon, we'll see if she'll get to #1 eventually this time. Completing the top 5 are the two highest of eight songs in my top 40 this week by or featuring experimental hip-hop artist JPEGMAFIA as he continues the trend in recent weeks of my chart being drowned by album tracks (following 'album bombs' by BROCKHAMPTON as seen in the last chart I posted, plus Lana Del Rey and Taylor Swift in the following weeks) after the release of his album 'All My Heroes Are Cornballs'. He gets the highest non-BJSC new entry at #4 with the highlight of the album tracks, the beautiful 'Free The Frail' featuring Helena Deland, while the lead single 'Jesus Forgive Me, I Am A Thot', which previously peaked at #7 and had fallen to #18 last week, zooms back up to a new peak of #5. He now has 4 top 5 hits and one further top 10 hit on my chart this year. The second single 'Beta Male Tactics' and 4 more album tracks with varying degrees of iconic titles also debut lower down in the top 40 while his feature for Tkay Maidza is still sticking around, actually back up two places this week.> BROCKHAMPTON still have two songs in the top 10 (and 4 in the top 40) with 'NO HALO' slipping 4 places to #6 and 'ST. PERCY' down 6 places to #10. Stormzy's 'Sounds Of The Skeng' debuted last week at #9 to give him his highest position on my chart this year (outpeaking the #10 hit 'Vossi Bop') and improves on that further by climbing two places to #7 this week while he falls just short of getting another top 10 hit with the quickfire follow-up single 'Wiley Flow' debuting at #11. There are two more new entries in the top 10. In at #8 is the Halloween-ready fiery banger 'Psycho' by slowthai and Denzel Curry (a combination that could only ever have been amazing) which gives slowthai his record-matching 6th top 10 hit on my chart this year (7th including an uncredited feature on Tyler, The Creator's 'WHAT'S GOOD') and Denzel his 2nd. Just behind at #9 is FKA twigs who failed to impact my chart with her comeback single 'cellophane' earlier in the year but makes a much better impression with the wonderful follow-up 'holy terrain' featuring Future, who gets his first top 10 hit of the year. > Other new entries this week: the best to date of Underworld's weekly single releases in their 'DRIFT' series, including a rather weird but iconic vocal line; the all-star collaboration between Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus and Lana Del Rey for 'Charlie's Angels' (some good news for Lana in a week that sees her own songs retreating heavily following the album bomb in the previous week oops x); Aitch's surprisingly boppy collab with ZieZie giving him his first chart appearance as lead artist; 2 songs from the BJSC 117 final finally debuting after the much-delayed results, Aeroche's Boy Harsher and Séyetana's 8kids (they'd have charted higher and a couple more would have charted last week had results actually happened on time but ah well x); new songs from Dave and AJ Tracey from OVO Sound's 'Top Boy' soundtrack; Charli XCX and Troye Sivan's sort-of sequel to '1999'; and a female rap collaboration between Rapsody and Leikeli47. |

'Violence' is a nice surprise from Grimes, first song of hers I've charted in many years although mostly down to the brilliant I_o production.
'Circles' is another good Post Malone track, not my fave of his this era but nice to have him do something a bit different. Liking the new Stormzy tracks too, 'Wiley Flow' particularly. 'Professor X' is another good Dave track even if it's just 'Funky Friday' part 2, good to see it doing fairly well (though I see 'Location' has now jumped well ahead on Spotify again thanks to Mercury Prize effect  ).'2099' is very.. interesting. I'd have to say '1999' is preferable but it's good to have her doing some experimental pop too. great chart! |

Kælan Mikla's 'Draumadís' falls a place to #2 behind it - unlike my previous BJSC entry that got to #1 here, it has actually qualified, yay! Post Malone holds at #3 with former #1 'Circles' and has a mini album bomb of his own after I listened to 'Hollywood's Bleeding' this week. The title track climbs two places to #10 to give him his fifth top 10 hit of the year while he has 3 new entries with his collabs with Future/Halsey, Ozzy Osbourne/Travis Scott and Meek Mill/Lil Baby (entirely coincidental that the new entries are all the songs with 2 features as I don't think the features are necessarily the highlights of those songs, especially not the Meek Mill & Lil Baby one). slowthai and Denzel Curry's 'Psycho' climbs four places to #4 in its second week giving Denzel Curry his highest position on my charts this year, and a fourth top 5 hit for slowthai though he's still yet to have a #1 so far. Grimes and i_o recede to #5 with 'Violence'. > The highest new entry is Dusky's bleepy bloopy instrumental 'L.I.' which lands in at #6 (they had 2 other new songs this week too but this was the very clear standout). Just behind that at #7 is another new entry that's rather less fresh, Dave's 11 minute magnum opus 'Lesley' featuring Ruelle which I finally heard this week as I checked out the album 'PSYCHODRAMA' at last a good 6 months after its release following its Mercury Prize win. He also has one further belated new entry in the top 40 with the opening track 'Psycho' (so there are 2 songs with that title in my top 40 this week  ) 'Lesley' is Dave's third top 10 of the year, all of which have peaked at #7 (following 'Black' and 'Streatham'). Charli XCX similarly gets her second top 10 of the year with both peaking at #8, as '2099' featuring Troye Sivan zooms up to that position in its second week to match the heights scaled by 'Gone'. FKA twigs and Future hold at #9 in their second week with 'holy terrain'.> Other new entries this week: the first song I've really cared for from wannabe popstar Georgia serving a very solid CHVRCHES ripoff which launches just short of the top 10; DaBaby's lead single (it is a real song despite the title x) from his second album which is landing just months after his debut; a discovery from the PopJustice Song Contest, a beautiful London Grammar-esque song from Ghostly Kisses; the second hit of the year for veteran electronic act DJ Shadow with a sample-heavy banger; a new single from Young Thug which impacts following its music video release; the highlight of a new 4-track EP from my former Unknown Pleasures entrant Jade Cicada, a Halloween-ready instrumental; a third song from the Top Boy soundtrack this time from Headie One; J. Cole, Lute and DaBaby's collab (with bonus uncredited Kendrick Lamar) from the Dreamville 'Revenge Of The Dreamers III' compilation which also makes a belated impact following a video release; a new track from shoegaze band DIIV (a former BJSC flop for East Rukahavian lol); and a sudden unexpected comeback from TNGHT (Hudson Mohawke and Lunice) who have reunited years after dropping the classique 'Higher Ground' and then dipping. There's also a re-entry in the top 20 for former top 10 hit 'A BOY IS A GUN*' by Tyler, The Creator which is also back in rotation for me after a new music video came out (the right song for him to make a video for as it's the second best track on 'IGOR' after 'EARFQUAKE' x). |

Dave's album is rather good, a worthy Mercury Prize winner though as ever I haven't listened to the majority of the shortlisted albums.
Take What You Want is another good Post Malone effort, hopefully the next single of his. haven't been interested in any of Dusky's recent stuff sadly, they used to have a few good tracks years ago. |

It is the only one I've listened to in full now lol (though I've heard most of slowthai's album as well and will try and get around to listening to the rest of it eventually x). Would be surprised if 'Take What You Want' wasn't the next single, clearly has the most potential ~ I think 'L.I.' is my favourite song I've heard from them! But yeah it is quite different to their older stuff so fair if you're not as into it xx |

It narrowly holds off a resurgent 'Circles' by Post Malone which is back up a place to #2 in its fifth straight week in the top 3 (while Posty also climbs 2 places to another new peak with 'Hollywood's Bleeding' at #8, and lower down 'On The Road' rises to a new peak and becomes his third highest song in the chart as it's sticking with me more than my other couple of album track highlights). Georgia's 'Never Let You Go' vaults 11-3 in its second week, also not too far off #1 in a very close week with no clear standout for me. Well, all three missed charts and this one have had the same song at the top spot, CHVRCHES' beautiful new track 'Death Stranding' from the video game of the same name which launched at #1 (becoming the band's  ), also debut lower down, Rolloland's Mostly Autumn and Niceland's Adriano Cintra & Camila Siqueira.> 2 of my favourite artists of all time, Coldplay and Kanye West, both made comebacks in the last week and they accordingly get the two highest new entries with Coldplay's anthemic 'Orphans' launching as highest newie of the week at #6 and Kanye going in at #8 with 'Use This Gospel' featuring the reunited Clipse and the icon Kenny G. Coldplay's other less instant new single also debuts top 20 and Kanye has two other new entries at #12 and #21 as this is his mini album bomb week, I'd normally expect Kanye to get more than 3 new entries following a new album release but this is not your standard Kanye album, he's kind of lucky to have this much chart action with his dramatic turn to Christian hip-hop on 'JESUS IS KING' x Caroline Polachek's very HAIM-esque 'So Hot You're Hurting My Feelings' took a few weeks to take off for me but scaled as high as #3 last week, this week receding to #7 in its fourth week top 40. It's also the fourth week for Travis Scott's 'HIGHEST IN THE ROOM', down two to #9 this week having peaked at #6 (his fourth top 10 hit of the year). Completing the top 10, Dusky's bleepy bloopy 'L.I.' has been showing unusual resilience and pops back up to #10 this week for a second week in the top tier following its #6 debut five weeks ago, having spent the intervening weeks mostly at lucky number 13. > Other new entries this week: Låpsley's lovely comeback song going into the top 15; a third chart entry for Slovene Eurovision faves zalagasper which doesn't match the top 10 peaks of their Eurovision entry and their English language debut as of yet but still marks another good track from them with similar vibes; a trashy PC Music esque bop with excellent production from Shygirl; a couple of lengthy dance instrumentals I'm a few weeks late to, one from Unknown Pleasures act Mall Grab (alongside Skin On Skin) and one from Lone, both acts scoring their second hit after previously having #40 smashes; an ignorant trap banger from YoungBoy Never Broke Again (who incidentally got as high as #2 three weeks back guesting on Juice WRLD's 'Bandit', Juice's third #2 hit of the year without a #1 to his name yet, also following the previous ones in falling pretty quickly so maybe that's for the best); Anna Meredith also picking up a second low top 40 smash of the year with a slightly more poppy song this time, charting after its music video release; a surprisingly solid new tune from One Direction's Louis Tomlinson (the second 1D-adjacent song to enter my chart in the last few weeks following Niall Horan's comeback single which went top 20); and a nice string-laden number from Rex Orange County scraping in his first chart appearance for me. |

Orphans is a good comeback single for Coldplay though it won't be going down as one of their classics, hope we get something a little better from this era soon
Arabesque is quite interesting but doesn't have much replay value for me took a listen to the Kanye album out of interest and only Follow God was worth taking away for me if Bias was the Floating Points track I heard on plug the other day that was quite good though not really my type of electronic dance, I did chart Ratio from him last year though |

The Floating Points song I played on plug.dj was 'Anasickmodular' - 'Bias' is actually quite different to the singles from the album with more of a breakbeat / drum n bass sound if you might be more into that.

Death Stranding is just growing on me too but it's unlikely to hit the top for me against Dua now and some other strong contenders. If it did it would be their 7th topper for me though, one of the more prolific acts on my personals.
Otherwise, some good rap on here. I was about to rec u a track but I skipped back a page just in case and you charted it already :') dat great taste. Also a belated ty for the big points in BJSC! Gotta be one of the highest eh?
