Honestly I think it's fine as is. I've never wanted to encourage raising the accreditation levels because all that does is gives us less information. For what it's worth though, I think The Chainsmokers' songs are somewhat overaccreditated. Don't Let Me Down was the first single to go 5xPlatinum in 2016 despite One Dance outselling it week by week, and it later went 6xPlatinum while Drake only just got there this week.

Ed Sheeran's quinella is interrupted by Ed Sheeran so now he has full control over the top 3 thanks to the newly released "How Would You Feel (Paean)". Curiously, the track is severely struggling on Spotify (where it fell out of the top 50) but going strong on iTunes so it's anyone's guess how well it maintains from here. In any case, Sheeran's total domination at the top will be put to an end next week as The Chainsmokers' new track will likely debut at #2 next week. Also in the top 10 this week is a big debut for Kygo & Selena Gomez, which by debuting at #10, instantly becomes both artists' highest charting single to date. Both previously reached #10 separately back in 2015 with "Firestone" and "Good For You" respectively. Also debuting in the top 50 next to each other this week is a pair of 2000s '''rock''' bands. Maroon 5's "Cold" seems to be floundering somewhat so it might not get much higher, but it is instantly Future's highest charting track having only previously slipped into the top 50 with "Jumpman". He could quickly add to this tally next week thanks to his Rihanna collaboration. Linkin Park on the other hand have their highest charting track for this decade with their dire new track. Lastly, Lana Del Rey returns to the top 50 with "Love" after previous lead single "High By The Beach" narrowly missed out, so perhaps a 4th #1 album isn't out of the question.

Of the album chart, we have a new #1 yet again, and it's an Australian band that few people outside of Australia have heard of, yet again. In fact I'm not even sure how Busby Marou nurture their popularity anymore. They had a respectable hit on triple j back in 2011 with "Biding My Time" but I couldn't name a single song they've released since then except for their song which is currently being used on a TV promo. Nonetheless, they score a #1 debut. The only other major debut of the week comes from Ryan Adams who has been riding higher and higher on the charts in recent years. He now scores his highest ever debut with "Prisoner" at #3. Next week is also pretty light on big releases. Likely the top debut will come from Western Australian band The Waifs, who perhaps will battle with Adele for the #1 spot as she rides current touring hype. There are also potential top 10 debuts for King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Stormzy & Horrorshow.

Now 8 weeks on the trot for "Shape Of You" and it's going nowhere. Ed does finally have competition that isn't from himself however, as there is a new debut in at #2 for The Chainsmokers and Coldplay. This makes it Coldplay's highest ever charting single, tied with "Viva la vida" and "A Sky Full Of Stars", and it's also The Chainsmokers' 7th top 10 hit but outright second highest. Following last week's strong debut, Kygo & Selena Gomez are now seeing the top 5 for the first time ever with "It Ain't Me", while Jon Bellion has some luck on his side as he is higher on the overall chart than either of the component charts, reaching the top 10 this week. Calvin Harris has the next highest debut of the week, with "Slide" also narrowly debuting higher than previous single "My Way" did. It's also a new height on the singles chart for Frank Ocean & Migos, who have both only charted once on their own prior. The big debuts don't stop there with Zedd coming through at #16 with "Stay", which looks set to be his first ever lead artist top 10, after "Clarity" and "Stay The Night" peaked at #13 & #11 respectively. It's also a bumper week for Future, who after last week charting only for the 2nd time in the top 50, is quickly back in with his Rihanna collaboration, and if that's not enough, "Everyday" with Ariana Grande also debuts lower down. But of course the only story that really matters down there is the resurgence of Bag Raiders' "Shooting Stars". Originally a hit in 2009 that finished in the top 20 of triple j's Hottest 100 that year, the song wouldn't reach the top 50 until 4 years later when someone danced to it on Australia's Got Talent (I think) giving a huge digital boost, truly Australia's own Mint Royale. But nonetheless, thanks to the power of glorious memes, it's back yet again. Also I must serve a reminder that I really have no idea if Ed Sheeran's tracks will be included in next week's charts. His Spotify dominance isn't quite on the level of the UK (the lowest track on the album is #32 on Spotify today), but I would expect maybe 9 or 10 top 50 debuts and the rest in the bottom half.

I can say with some level of confidence that his new album will be debuting at #1 on the album chart next week though. For this week however, things are more humble as we see Western Australia's own The Waifs pick up their first ever #1 album with their 8th release. They're a band whose popularity I would say hit its peak in 2002, and I've honestly not heard anything from them in nearly a decade, but such are the album charts of the present to favour the older market. This also shows in the fact that the band pipped to the post are much more modern. They're also one of the most prolific bands in the world nowadays. For the uninformed, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard are a psych rock band formed in 2010. They released their debut album in 2012 and all up they have released 9 albums now. Last year's "Nonagon Infinity" was a big success for them and their first top 50 peaking album, now their latest album has soared them up to #2 in the standings. Oh and they're supposedly releasing 3 more albums later this year. Next up on the debuts list are Australian hip-hop veterans Horrorshow, who are stepping down a little here at #4, given their previous album debuted at #2. We continue the Australian debuts here as at #7 we've got Holy Holy with their second album. Meanwhile Adele's touring here is doing wonders as "21" re-enters the top 10 and "19" re-enters the top 20. The UK's #1 album from Stormzy debuts at an unlucky #11 but at the very least, he just outsold Rod'N'Bait Man so there's that.

I'm fairly certain "Divide" would be straight away certified at least 2 times Platinum on chart debut week. If not, it will be happen on next few week chart.

If the notion of Ed not having the top two last week was troubling, then rest assured we're back to that this week, possibly thanks to his new album released. This makes 9 weeks at #1 for "Shape Of You", and unlike in the UK where "Galway Girl" is making a threat, "Shape Of You" looks unchallenged in the near future. That new Sheeran album takes over pretty much everything on this chart with 13 debuts all in the top 40. "Dive" is the highest of the lot because it was promoted here on the iTunes frontpage. There are only two more debuts in the rest of the top 100, the highest of which coming from Lorde who scores her 2nd top 10 hit with "Green Light", perhaps consolidating Australia as her strongest market outside of New Zealand. To note on Ed's achievements this week though, he's got the most simultaneous entries ever in the top 10, top 20 and top 50, though not top 100 as Michael Jackson had many more in the weeks following his passing. Elsewhere this week, Zedd indeed scores his first ever lead artist top 10 with "Stay", and Bruno Mars disingenuously bullets hugely with "That's What I Like", because its streams weren't being counted until now for no reason.

Ed Sheeran also gets his 3rd #1 album, and 2nd #1 album debut, unsurprisingly decimating the competition and selling just shy of 100,000 copies. For comparison, no other album this year had even debuted on 10,000 sales. The top 5 also features his other two albums, alongside Adele's most recent two, as she has been touring in Australia. Less noticeable here is Justin Bieber's rebound as he has just started his Australian tour and may climb further next week. To show that there is still some semblance of national pride here, the other top 10 debuts this week are from Australian artists, All Our Exes Live In Texas and Kingswood. There's not much in the way of big new releases this week so don't expect much change at the top of the album chart.

Thrilling news, for the 10th week in a row, it's the Sheeran show. "Shape Of You"'s 10 weeks at #1 makes it among the longest running #1s of all time and as you might figure from "Castle On The Hill" remaining at #2, there's little in the way of competition still. The Chainsmokers are getting close on iTunes but making next to no progress on Spotify. Unlike in the UK, iTunes users haven't quite cottoned onto "Galway Girl" which is #28 on digital tracks but shoots up to #7 on the chart thanks to huge streams. Meanwhile Bruno Mars scores his 9th top 10 hit with "That's What I Like", and Jon Bellion returns so it doesn't seem like he was just lucky to get there before the Sheeran take over. Australia lives up to expectations with buying anything that has P!nk's name on it in excess, with Stargate scoring their first credited chart entry in "Waterfall", which is quite the opposite to "Galway Girl" as it's #5 digital but shoved down by lack of streams. Not much to note otherwise. Next week you can look out for Drake though I only expect "Passionfruit" to crack the top 40.

Thrilling news, the Sheeran show never ends. "Shape Of You"'s 11 weeks at #1 makes it the second longest runner of the decade behind Pharrell's "Happy". As it stands, there's still no competition to stop it really, still leading on sales and streaming by decent amounts. The Chainsmokers aren't out of contention just yet but they might need a big album week release boost to do so as they're still way behind. Luck is on my side as we go down to 10 Sheeran tracks in the top 50, with two of the more questionable entries, "Nancy Mulligan" and "Barcelona" at #51 & #52. Drake's "More Life" nets a top 20 debut for "Passionfruit" and nothing else, because with the arbitrary state of things in the chart, nothing else was allowed in the chart. Nothing probably would have cracked the top 50, but "Free Smoke", "Portland", "Get It Together", "Blem" and probably some others should be in the top 100. Clean Bandit also debut in the top 50 with "Symphony", which is their first top 50 single that doesn't start with R and end with E, though it maintains their run of 8 letter singles. Expect big moves from the track in the coming weeks.

Sheeran remains at #1 with little competition on the album chart as well, selling about as much as #2 & #3 combined. Drake gets another #2 album with "More Life", having only hit #1 with "Views" last year. Zara Larsson debuts in the top 10 with her debut album, while Milky Chance reach #8 with their 2nd album, the same peak as their "Sadnecessary" album managed in 2014. Likely there'll be no change on the top next week, but look out for potential strong debuts from Lee Kernaghan, James Blunt & Northlane.

I didn't realize this was a thing! laugh.gif Too bad 'Come Over' and 'Stronger' didn't chart, although that would've ended the R/E thing much earlier.

Very pleased to see a top 10 debut for Milky Chance! Maybe they can keep getting supported here and be the next Good Charlotte or something. tongue.gif

Now I'm just imagining the Milky Chance guy as a judge on The Voice or something laugh.gif It does seem like they've really struck a chord with triple j listeners to the point that Australia is like their biggest market now.

For the 12th week in a row, it's Ed Sheeran at #1zzzzzzzz. "Shape Of You" continues to be mostly uncontested, though radio have just recently picked up "Galway Girl" which is now selling strongly and likely to land in the top 3 next week. It's in a similar situation to Drake's "Passionfruit" for new tracks being strongly benefitted by streaming. "Passionfruit" climbs to #4 despite never cracking the iTunes top 10. Lower down we have ZAYN performing slightly better than he did in the UK with his latest single debuting at #21. David Guetta & Kendrick Lamar ride strong digital sales for their latest top 40 debuts though both look to rapidly vanish. In the case of Kendrick, he has backup in the form of "HUMBLE." which is looking set for a top 10 debut next week. Future also continues his recent hit streak with "Mask Off" becoming his first solo top 50 entry. "Selfish" could potentially return to the top 50 thanks to strong Spotify promotion. "Fake Love" also re-enters the top 50 this week thanks to its streams being properly counted this week.

The album chart continues to be Sheerantown without competition. The deadwood is slipping off though with his previous albums leaving the top 10 this week. It's a good week for Australian artists too in the debuts, with the #2 slot going to local country artist Lee Kernaghan with a mixture of old & new material. It's his 2nd highest charting album behind only his "Spirit Of The Anzacs" album which spent a month at #1 in 2015. Next up at #3 is metalcore band Northlane with a slight direction change on new album "Mesmer". It's their 3rd consecutive top 3 album, with their previous album "Node" having reached #1 in 2015. Australia has always been one of James Blunt's best markets, where he often has benefitted from X Factor promotion to score hit singles. This time around he has nothing of the sort, but still manages a top 10 debut at #7, with his previous studio albums all landing in the top 5. Also debuting in the top 10 is Steel Panther, whose last album came hilariously close to hitting #1 in 2014, this time around they can only manage #10. Next week's potential top 10 debuts come from Jamiroquai & Mastodon, but overall it looks to be a slow week.

Hot exciting action going on at the top of the...nah it's just Ed Sheeran again. "Shape Of You" racks up its 13th consecutive week at the top, which makes it the equal longest running #1 on the ARIA Charts, tied with Coolio's "Gangsta's Paradise". Chart pundits will note that prior to the ARIA era, ABBA logged 15 weeks at #1 with "Fernando". However, while the battle for the top spot in the UK is a close one, over here, Harry Styles started with a huge 8:1 lead on iTunes, effectively guaranteeing him next week's #1. In the meantime, Ed Sheeran takes over the #2 slot with "Galway Girl", which becomes the 3rd song of his to be blocked by "Shape Of You". It's also a big week for new entries in the top 50, the biggest of which belongs to Kendrick Lamar, who gets his first ever solo top 10 hit following his collaborations with Taylor Swift, Sia & Maroon 5. His previous solo peak was #32 for "King Kunta". Next up is yet another new single for Calvin Harris, which is importantly the first ever top 50 single for Young Thug. Local hip hop group Bliss N Eso pick up their 9th top 50 hit with "Moments", giving them only one less than kingpins Hilltop Hoods.

No change on the album chart of course. The closest competitor to Sheeran is the Moana soundtrack, assumably due to a DVD release. Sludge metal favourites Mastodon picked up their first top 10 with their previous album in 2014 reaching #10, now they step it up a notch with their latest album debuting at #3. Also joining them is Jamiroquai who score their highest charting album in over a decade. Next week we find out how many people have been pining for that Chainsmokers album. It won't be #1, and will battle The Smith Street Band and Tina Arena for top debut.

2017's villain has been vanquished and we finally have a new #1 courtesy of Harry Styles. "Sign Of The Times" opened with huge sales and has no problem taking the top spot despite not yet being able to reach the top 10 on Spotify. Amusingly this also means that the Australian and UK #1 singles continue to be identical, as they have been since around the start of December. There's a good chance that won't be the case next week, it would seem that it's a battle between "Shape Of You" and "Galway Girl", the former still excelling on streams, the latter leading on sales. However "Shape Of You" has just yesterday been ousted from the #1 spot on Spotify by Kendrick Lamar, who could potentially see those high streams through to a #3 finish next week. Elsewhere, Clean Bandit score their 3rd top 10 hit with "Symphony", which is also Zara Larsson's 3rd top 10 hit. Future scores a top 20 hit with "Mask Off" despite still not having cracked the top 40 digital tracks chart. Halsey continues to be boring but scores her first lead artist top 50 single, having come ever so close with her 50 Shades track earlier this year.

The album chart doesn't have the same relief as Divide is now #1 for a 6th week. A few challengers this week though I imagine none were particularly close. Coming in at #2 this week is a new compilation release for Tina Arena, followed by the ever increasingly popular Smith Street Band who score their first top 10 album with "More Scared Of You Than You Are Of Me". It proves to be a fun thing to note that they've never cracked the singles chart before, but here they are outselling the debut album from The Chainsmokers which comes in at #4. Pentatonix also score their 2nd top 10 album while Father John Misty sees new heights with latest album "Pure Comedy". Next week will see the first genuine challenge to Sheeran's top spot as Kendrick Lamar looks to have huge digital sales for new album "DAMN.". Perennial high-charter John Mayer also looks set to land in the top 5.

Because we can't have nice things, "Shape Of You" returns to #1 for a 14th non-consecutive week. This means that it's the longest running #1 single for the ARIA period which goes back to the mid-80s. There's one more hurdle and that's ABBA's 15 week running #1 "Fernando", and it's not out of the realm of possibility. Incidentally, Ed's toughest competition will come from himself as "Galway Girl" has re-asserted itself at the top of the iTunes chart, though its streaming lags behind a bit. Otherwise, it was also a big week for Kendrick Lamar with the release of "DAMN." last week. Huge streaming figures propel "HUMBLE." to #2, equalling the peak of "The Greatest" and only behind "Bad Blood" which reached #1, but it's by far his highest lead artist peak. Funnily enough, his next highest lead artist peaks are debuting this week, notably "DNA." and "LOYALTY." both in the top 20. There's also "LOVE." but that's all that made the ARIA Chart. My suspicion is that ARIA only included the songs that reached the top 100 in digital sales, because if you included all of the streaming data correctly, I believe the entire album should have charted. Lady Gaga's new single "The Cure" was oddly doing better in Australia than it was in the UK/US on iTunes, taking the biggest lead here. It ended up just 4th on digital sales, but it took until the end of the week to crack the top 50 on Spotify so it has to settle for a #17 debut. With sales still strong, it looks to rise next week. Some old songs are of interest below the top 50. Lord Huron debut their 2 year old song "The Night We Met" thanks to strong digital sales and decent streams from its inclusions in the Netflix series 13 Reasons Why. Also Ed Sheeran's "Thinking Out Loud" remains in the chart for the 124th week (though it would have dropped out if Kendrick's songs were rightly included) thus overtaking "Riptide" as the longest charting song ever. Also thanks to the Justin Bieber remix, Luis Fonsi's huge smash "Despacito" finally debuts here, being the first latin hit to chart here in ages, the only one I can think of from this decade is "Bailando" though that needed an English version to do so.

2 years ago, Kendrick Lamar scored a #1 debut with "To Pimp A Butterfly", being the first ever digital only album (at the time) to do so. He can't repeat the feat with "DAMN." due to the overwhelming power of whitebread music. Speaking of which, right behind at #3 is a debut from Australia's Got Talent alumni Mark Vincent. Mark Vincent is super unlucky because his debut album missed out on holding the #1 spot because of Michael Jackson's passing in 2009. He's since gone on to release a new album nearly every single year since, and this new one is the 5th to crack the top 10. Also debuting in the top 5 is John Mayer, which is a bit of a slump for him as his last two albums peaked at #1. It's his 6th to reach the top 5 though. Next week looks to be slow for new releases, perhaps Allday or Brad Paisley could reach the top 10?

Writing about Ed Sheeran is boring so let's not do that. Fortunately it looks like there'll finally be a reprieve next week. DJ Khaled's new track has shot to #1 on iTunes with a handy lead, while making good progress on Spotify (I expect it to move up to #2 either tomorrow or the day after), so it looks a good bet for #1. Also worth noting amongst this is Clean Bandit who continue to make progress with "Symphony" and should pass some of the declining competition. The biggest new release of the week came from Shawn Mendes who gets his highest ever debut at #8, with "There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back" becoming his 3rd top 10 hit. With strong sales it should shoot into the top 5 but its streaming currently lags it behind so it can't challenge for the top spot. Notable news also this week is that Lady Gaga has scored herself a top 10 hit with "The Cure". This is single chart heights she has not seen in a last time, as her last top 10 hit in Australia was actually "The Edge Of Glory" in 2011! Justin Bieber's version helps push "Despacito" into the top 30 and it should continue to climb from here thanks to very strong streams. In the world of not very strong streams, we get current insight into the dipping sales of this climate as James Blunt debuts at #20 on digital tracks but only manages #67, but hey, now he has a charting single from his latest album so there's that.

Over on the album chart we have another new #2 album as the #2 artist in the 2015 Hottest 100 poll makes way for the #2 artist in the 2016 Hottest 100 poll. Local artist Amy Shark's debut EP is just long enough at 6 tracks to be counted to the albums chart. Following her we have the new Guardians Of The Galaxy soundtrack at #3. The first one debuted at #7 but went on to peak at #2, so time will tell how this one will compare. The last debut in the top 10 comes from local rapper Allday who scores his 2nd top 10 with his 3rd album. He doesn't quite match the #3 peak of his previous album from 2014. Next week we could actually see a new #1 thanks to slipping sales of the current one. The new #1 could come from local rap group Bliss N Eso who are no strangers to the top spot as their last two albums have done so. Gorillaz should also appear somewhere in the top 5.

Audio streams will incorporate to the album chart starting next week, using the similar compilation model from UK and NZ album chart. This article also mention the current streaming conversion ratio for singles was 1:175.

^ haha, beat me to mentioning it. I'm quite curious to see how it'll shake things up next week, though I suspect the main beneficiary will be #1 regardless...

We've got a bit of an interesting occurence on the singles chart this week. DJ Khaled takes it out with a #1 debut, despite having never charted in the top 50 before at all! In fact he'd only previously charted a few times last year with the tracks "For Free", "Holy Key" & "Do You Mind" all in the bottom 50. Of course you could easily chalk up some of the success to the guest list, all of which have been appearing in the top 50 at some point in time, most notably Justin Bieber who notches up his 4th #1 hit after "What Do You Mean?", "Love Yourself" and "Cold Water". For everyone else, it's their first time at the top, even Lil Wayne who with a decade of hits under his belt, only got as high as #2 guesting on Jay Sean's "Down". Otherwise, it's a bit of a close battle going on in the top 10 which results in not much shifting. One notable exception is the other entry into the top 10, Luis Fonsi's "Despacito", which now has Justin Bieber credited on it, giving him two new top 10 hits in one week. It also now outpeaks Daddy Yankee's only other top 50 entry, 2006's #12 hit "Gasolina". Also debuting this week is Kygo & Katy Perry, the former off to a bit of a slow start compared to "It Ain't Me" so it's not yet clear if it can make the top 10, the latter a bit unfortunate for an artist that typically debuts in the top 10 with pre-album release singles. Both of Katy's singles might be just clinging onto the top 50 next week at this rate. Also, The Voice seems to still have a tremendous effect on digital sales here but it's a bit muted on the chart. Chris Stapleton's cover of "Tennessee Whiskey" got all the way up to #2 on iTunes this week but only enters at #70.

With the last ever week of the album chart being determined purely by sales, we have a new #1 this week. It would seem the artist with the power to stop Sheeran turned out to be local hip hop trio Bliss N Eso. They're stalwarts for the genre at this point, now on their 6th album, and the 3rd consecutive one to debut at #1. It comes in a troubling year for the group, as back in January during the filming of one of their music videos, an actor was fatally wounded in a manner not unlike that of Brandon Lee, after which their album release was delayed, which has proven oddly fortuitous as they likely would not have gotten the #1 going against 2nd week Sheeran. In addition to the album success, their current single "Moments" climbs up to #25, which oddly enough is their first time in the top 25 after 9 top 50 entries. Also debuting this week is Gorillaz with their 4th proper album "Humanz" at #4. The virtual band have had just one album hit the top spot, 2010's "Plastic Beach", while "Demon Days" was relegated to #2 behind System of a Down. The last top 10 debut of the week comes from Adam Harvey with the sequel to his most successful album "The Great Country Songbook", an album that stirred a bit of chart controversy in 2013 as sales were incorrectly counted leading it to initially appear to debut at #1 before it was corrected and it landed at #2 behind Kanye West's "Yeezus". That album was Adam teaming up with Troy Cassar-Daley, while this one is with Beccy Cole. It's Beccy's highest charting album, and Adam's 2nd highest after the aforementioned. Bruno Mars' recent tour announcement has "24K Magic" shoot back up into the top 10. Next week may be a bit of a mystery to me given the rule changes, perhaps The Chainsmokers & Drake will have the only real noticeable improvements, while contending for the top debut (though I don't suspect any will make the top 5) will be Logic, Chris Stapleton, Asgeir & San Cisco.

DJ Khaled & crew score a 2nd week at #1 but it looks to be their last. Though they're still dominant on streaming, the remix of "Despacito" has taken the top spot on iTunes and with the added sales & streams of the original, it looks to safely take the top spot next week. Overall the top 10 doesn't change this week. The top debut of the week is Niall Horan's "Slow Hands", which gets the unlucky #11 position despite being #3 on digital sales. As it continues to struggle to reach the top 50 on Spotify, it looks not to join "This Town" as a top 10 hit in the near future. "Swalla" jumps into the top 20 giving Jason Derulo his highest charting lead artist single since "Want To Want Me" in 2015. Also debuting this week is Jonas Blue's new single and 4th top 50 hit. It features William Singe who Australian readers might recall as a member of X Factor-formed boyband The Collective.

It's a big week for the album chart as it's the first to include stream equivalent sales. Unsurprisingly, the most streamed album is from Ed Sheeran who has no problem taking the top spot even without them. Also getting big boosts from streams this week are Kendrick Lamar, Bruno Mars, Drake, The Weeknd, Justin Bieber & Zara Larsson. There are a whole heap of debuts this week but only one to reach the top 10 this week which is a Greatest Hits compilation for Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. The next highest debut is from At The Drive-In who score their highest charting album to date. Next week we'll see if Harry Styles can do enough to take the top spot from Ed Sheeran. Oddly enough, streaming will be on his side by the looks of things but it looks to be a close battle. Paramore should also appear somewhere in the top 5.

Any reason for Kaleo in the top 40, or just a late-impacting hit? Nice to see either way! Excellent start for 'The Cure' as well. The UK/US/Aus charts are all looking too much alike at the moment.
