Yeah you can't deny Eminem's legacy. When artists like Plan B, Professor Green, Devlin and even Mike Skinner first broke through, they were all sold as the "British Eminem". It was almost like the only reference point I suppose you can credit Timbaland with that too, although I can only think of Justin Timberlake and Nelly Furtado that fit your criteria Dr. Dre as well, he must have been a big part of the reason people took Eminem seriously and not just as another Vanilla Ice. |

That's not quite what I meant. What I'm suggesting is that if a record label had a choice between a white and a black rapper/singer of equal talent, they would probably choose the white one because they are more "marketable". Its generally a UK thing, since the majority of the population is white. Your point about white people dominating black music genres is too true. Some of these cases are marketability over talent I think both things are connected, white people being more marketable for record labels than black people when doing R&B/hip hop is why they're dominating those genres atm, at least in the mainstream. I think it's probably because it's more unusual, and also I think a white person can record a hip hop song and pretend it's a pure pop song quite easily. Like I bet a lot of people don't realize that Dark Horse, Royals, Fancy, etc. actually have hip hop instrumentals. On the other hand, the dance-pop trend of around 2008-2011 was dominated by black people, so it evens out I guess. |

Dr. Dre as well, he must have been a big part of the reason people took Eminem seriously and not just as another Vanilla Ice. When you think of Eminem, you inevitability think of Dr. Dre Its like Timbaland-Timberlake or Tinie-Labrinth; the best music they make is together! |

Hmm maybe its because it less threatening for some people if they see a white person do an R&B/Hip Hop track. Whereas if say, 50 Cent, did a pop song then most people would still be put off because of image. Somebody else here made a point that if George Erza was black he would be classed as an R&B/Soul singer which is interesting. The opinion that black artists are automatically classed as "urban" is probably correct. |

Why was my post from last night asking why Thinking Out Loud was at #2 again deleted? the reason why I asked was because I was away for the whole day yesterday so I didn't know what might have caused his boost.

Jennifer Lopez rode the 1999 latin trend and in 2002 teamed up with Ja Rule, even with LL Cool J in 2003, shes now trying club bangers! Christina Aguilera worked with Redman on stripped for a more urban sound but she hedged her bets and didnt go all out in case the trend passed. . |

Glad to see Ariana benefitting from the gift card effect in some sort of way! Now to keep praying 'Love Me Harder' can keep pushing for a late top 40 entry...

I have a feeling Phillip could get to no1 on iTunes and the mids but obv UF should be no1 by next Sunday for a third week and the same could happen with Promesses next week it'll be the streams that'll easily outshine any release until Meghan!

Philip might get close to the iTunes #1, though I doubt it'll come anywhere close officially (assuming Uptown Funk's streaming holds up well). should easily make the top 5 anyhow! not expecting anything from Promesses though, even a low-selling top 20 seems too optimistic imo |

This thread is still open? wow! I don't think Philip George will get to #1 on iTunes, Uptown Funk has had 3 consecutive green updates on kworb.
