In light of recent events this is kinda necessary.

Can you please keep any form of remarks [even the off the cuff sarcastic one's] that could in anyway harm the forum or cause the site owner [Phil] to be the recipient of a lawsuit to an absolute zero. Any accusations made without fact or evidence concerning celebrities [such as these x factor rumours] can result in the involved parties legal team suing the forum for damages. The Buzzjack team in no way wishes to dictate or enforce a certain opinion or stifle free speech, but in today's climate a certain degree of ass coving is essential. Libel suits have been taken out against forums in the past and we do not wish for Buzzjack to be the next. If you really must discuss issues that could bring the forum to harm please keep it to MSN or PM.

If you are found to be making accusations of this nature your post will be edited/deleted. Persistent offenders will be warned as appropriate.

Neither Steve or i wish to have to warn anyone, so please please please don't give us reason to.

Many thanks for your co-operation on this issue,

Phil & Aaron,

If you have any further questions please feel free to drop either myself [Silas], Steve [Steve's A Mess] or a GM/Admin a PM.

Happy posting happy.gif

Would any legal team actually bother to sue an Internet forum though? Richer pickings from a wealthy newspaper owner I'd have thought!

No but they can get the site shut down.

This notice was posted on the EFestivals site in August 2008 and I copied and saved it - most especially for the last para:

QUOTE
eFestivals has just received a solicitor's letter, regarding posts made here about a particular individual which they claim to be libellous.

Without going into who the posts were about or what they said and whether they were indeed actually libellous, eFestivals feels that it's in poster's interests to be aware of the following...

> Liability in this instance falls not only on you as the website host,
> but also on those persons making such false statements. If these
> statements are not immediately removed, and the members of your website
> who made such statements are not notified that personal comments such as
> these are unacceptable, we will not hesitate to seek a court action for
> the release of the identities of those individuals, so that action may
> be taken against them also.

The offending posts have been removed from these forums, so that should be the end of the matter (they have indicated that if the posts are removed then it will be the end of the matter). However, the complainee has a right in law to pursue this matter if they so wish, and they're within their rights to take action against any individuals making libellous posters.

Do *NOT* make the mistake of believing that because this is the internet that posts made by you cannot be traced back to you - they very definitely can be. Ultimately in law every individual is responsible for any posts that they make, and if any complainee wishes to take legal action against any individual they are within their rights to do so.

Just thought it would be useful to have a pinned topic on this for a while, until people get the hang of it.

Please hide upcoming nominations/evictions/eliminations, tasks and twists by using spoilers, some people don't want surprises ruined.

Observe:

Just a wee bump.

With it being X Factor season again, can we all have a quick reread of this please?

I don't want to have to edit out a load of accusations and so on like the Lloyd/Daniel thing from last year.

Many thanks for your co-operation cheer.gif

Hey guys!

I'd just like to stress as we head towards the Live shows for the X Factor that spoiler tags are important.

Any leaked info on song choices etc MUST be spoiler tagged and all discussion relating to the spoiler must be in spoiler tags also.

Steve and I will edit the tags in and give you a verbal warning first time, repeated failure to use spoiler tags despite warnings in the thread and this lovely pinned thread will result in your warning level being increased.

Neither Steve nor I want to increase your warning level so your co-operation would be much appreciated. happy.gif

If we do give you a warning level increase, and you continue to post without using spoiler tags we'll get admin involved.

Sorry to be harsh, but it's important to get the point across.

Much Love, your Reality TV Mods

Phil and Steve

I was wondering what the 'recent events' were. Great job on making this thread.
It's a very serious matter and important when running a forum the size of Buzzjack.

Good afternoon!

There has been some concerns about posts containing spoilers which Steve and I have been unable to catch on time (I personally work Saturday nights and Steve is also RealLifeBusy atm) so I'm going to draw attention to our Reporting procedure.

Underneath the avatar and next to the button that says UP (for taking you back to the top of the page) is a button that says Report. If you hit this button you will be taken to a special form that will send a link to the post to the moderators of the forum (in this case myself and Steve) on this form you are required to give us a reason for you reporting the post. After you have filled that in hit the send/report this post button and it shall appear in the PM inboxes of Steve and I. This process is anonymous to the extent that aside from Steve and I knowing who reported a post nobody else does or will.

As for the type of posts that should be reported, this is a general list but is not exhaustive. If you think something is worth reporting, report it. We look into all of the reports we get and if there is something we don't think is a reportable offence you will get a reply explaining why we think that.

So, to the list!

- Any form of verbal abuse including but not limited to: Racism, Homophobia, Ageism, Personal attacks. (Be careful not to mistake light teasing or banter as something more serious than this.)
- Spoiler posts in a non spoiler thread that has no spoiler tags
- Links to mp3's. This is against forum rules. The exceptions would be to free legal downloads and links to legal download services such as iTunes.
- Links to defaming or pornographic materials
- Anything not mentioned above which is against the forum rules (They can be viewed here along with the other terms of service: http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?act=boardrules)

I can't stress enough how valuable this feature is. It allows you to bring to our attention something we may have missed. Please do use the report feature instead of just moaning about it in the thread, it isn't constructive nor helpful. Reporting posts allows us to act quicker and more effectively. It also allows us to take actions to correct behaviour as close to the event as possible.

I'm going to leave this open so you can ask any questions you want/need to.

Please, please, please use the report feature where it is deemed necessary.

Thank you in advance for your co-operation!

Phil & Steve, your Reality TV Forum Moderators. happy.gif

Hey all! hi.gif

Firstly, me and Liam were discussing this and we think that it would be best if you pm one of us before opening up big event/game/rate threads etc. This will avoid your thread being closed as some games are too complex or just don’t work. We also have a few rates planned over the next few months, so this also avoids 2 people dropping the same rate at the same time.

Also, I would just like to remind people to please make use of the edit button. I’ve had to clear up a few posts where people post multiple times in a matter of a couple of minutes. So if someone hasn’t posted since your last post then please edit! Obviously if it has been hours since your last post then that’s fine, but it just helps the threads look cleaner! biggrin.gif

Thanks! smile.gif
