BuzzJack Music Forum _ UK Charts _ Friday Chart Predictions

Posted by: SevenSeize 9th January 2021, 08:22 PM

It's anyone's guess in the singles chart - with the likes of Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran, Little Mix and CJ all having a strong chance. Potential Top 40 debuts include Olivia Rodrigo's debut single drivers license, Saweetie & Doja Cat's Best Friend, ZAYN with Vibez and Bugzy Malone & Chip with Notorious, while Kings of Leon return with new tracks The Bandit/100,000 People

On the album chart, Taylor might hold on for a third week, but anything can happen with low sales. There's new contenders from Barry Gibb with Greenfields: The Gibb Brothers' Songbook Vol 1 and Passenger's Songs for the Drunk and Broken Hearted, plus album releases from Morgan Wallen, Viagra Boys and Jazmine Sullivan

Breakdown of the week
- Saturday: Some information may be posted on social media but it is likely to be missing most streaming data and is unrepresentative.
- Sunday: Official First Look Chart on Radio 1 from 6-7pm. Please do not post spoilers on the forum in advance as this ruins the countdown for any listeners.
- Monday: OCC Top 100 from 5:45pm
- Tuesday: Top 40 update as and when we receive them with requests, this is NOT 100% guaranteed however. The OCC may publish sales flashes of their own accord but likewise, this is not guaranteed. Twitter and social media is your friend for today. Please post any information you find with a source. Do not nag for updates, we will post a top 40 update if we receive one.
- Wednesday: Top 40 update from Music Week from 5:45, and potential top 5 sales but this is not guaranteed.
- Thursday: See Tuesday.

Other notes (please read)
- You may make requests Tuesday to Thursday but outside the top 40, specific positions will not be revealed (unless deemed necessary by a mod).
- Please do not demand a midweek update, one will be posted as and when we receive the information. Patience is a virtue.
- Sales information will be given out as deemed necessary by a moderator, please bear this in mind when making requests. Most requests for sales will be ignored. Any chart requests between No. 41 to 100 will not be answered after Monday's update.
- To keep everyone in the loop of all chart action, please refer to the iTunes and Spotify threads.

My prediction is Ed for #1. I can see him going all guns blazing to get it now Little Mix's campaign is out of the way.

Team Bieber though!

Posted by: steve201 9th January 2021, 09:08 PM

If she about Ed considering he’s doing well below 200k on Spotify!

Posted by: Bré 9th January 2021, 09:17 PM

> implying that anyone is doing well above 200k on Spotify

I'd really like Ed to get the #1 this week but I think he's highly likely to fall behind Bieber and might still be behind Little Mix too - it all looks really close though so who knows.

Posted by: steve201 9th January 2021, 09:20 PM

Would like ‘Sweet Melody’ to get a second week before something new that’s huge comes along!

Posted by: Bjork 9th January 2021, 10:15 PM

Anyone is surprisingly low on Amazon, so might cost him the #1
Think it might be Ed thanks to being 59p on iTunes

Posted by: Bré 10th January 2021, 12:08 AM

Would be more useful if we had the context of where it was last week on Amazon.

Posted by: Slayer 10th January 2021, 12:16 AM

I'd love Little Mix to get a second week but I don't care as they ended up with the Number one!

I'd therefore love Justin Bieber to take it!

Posted by: Mangø 10th January 2021, 12:20 AM

I'm guessing it's going to be a battle between Ed and Justin, and I'm very much team Bieber this week as it's the best song he's released in like forever.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 10th January 2021, 12:24 AM

I'd quite like Ed and Justin to reach #1, but if I had to choose one it would be Ed

(Also I'm not too sure what to expect from them, but hopefully Viagra Boys can go top 40)

Posted by: UltraEvermore 10th January 2021, 12:33 AM

Olivia to beat both of those mediocre songs to #1 please x

Posted by: Sid_ 10th January 2021, 12:35 AM

I don't know which one is worse, Afterglow or Anyone. confused.gif

Posted by: Mr. C. Joel 10th January 2021, 12:42 AM

I'm here for Little Mix to get 2 weeks at number 1.

Don't mind what happens after that but would be nice if they got number 1 without a fan buying spree just to highlight how big of a hit it is!

I didn't mind Ed's song at first but I'm bored of it already so if not LM hope Justin gets it.

Posted by: spiceboy 10th January 2021, 12:18 PM

I'd like Harry Styles to climb to the #1 position with Fine Line.

Posted by: Bjork 10th January 2021, 12:27 PM

Drivers license #1 confirmed for this week after today's Spotify results!!! Kinda happy this is goanna block Ed & Bieber & Whoopty ohmy.gif

Posted by: Mr. C. Joel 10th January 2021, 12:28 PM

Olivia is smashing number 1 this week..

I have a feeling Female artists are going to dominate this year more than ever!

Posted by: Cognizant 10th January 2021, 12:34 PM

Olivia all but guaranteed the number one with her massive streaming figures. Number one on both Spotify and Apple Music.

Lovely track.

Posted by: Mart!n 10th January 2021, 12:49 PM

Olivia's track is really growing on me now, gets better on every listen and towards the end of the track, it builds up to a nice finish, sounds really refreshing. Could hog the top spot for a few weeks, if there is lack of new material around. I would prefer it over Ed, CJ and Justin Bieber.

Posted by: RobBot MBE 10th January 2021, 05:30 PM

I'd take that over the situation in January 2020 where we had a huge heap of stale songs being reset...! It feels much more controlled this time even if the songs chosen seem questionable.

It's too arbitrary for my liking - they could have changed the threshold back to a 50% increase, or 25% regardless of what the market does.

8 Dua Lipa feat. DaBaby - Levitating

Posted by: JosephStyles 10th January 2021, 06:38 PM

Surprisingly low for this, guessing there's at least one day of Apple data missing then. Justin's lagging on Amazon which could also explain it!

6 The Kid LAROI - WITHOUT YOU

Little Mix are on course for a second week at Number 1 with Sweet Melody.

The song holds on to its Number 1 spot on today's Official Chart: First Look, though with just 250 chart sales between the song and Ed Sheeran’s Afterglow (2) there's plenty of space for Afterglow to catch up to the reigning Number 1.

Irish producer Shane Codd is up two rungs on the First Look with Get Out My Head (4), which will be his first Top 5 single if it stays on track. Potentially joining Shane is Meduza's Paradise ft. Dermot Kennedy, which has jumped five places to Number 5 - set to be Meduza's second Top 5 song and Dermot's first.

No Time For Tears by Nathan Dawe ft. Little Mix rises seven to Number 17, which will be Nathan Dawe’s third Top 20 if it holds its place until Friday’s chart.

Finally, Manchester rapper Bugzy Malone could earn the highest new entry of the week with Notorious ft. Chip, placing at Number 20 after 48 hours.

Guessing Apple's Saturday figures must be missing, Olivia only blew up on Saturday (on every platform) and Apple seems to be Bieber's strongest platform, I think there's a good chance they still end up being the top 2 this week.

I can’t see Ed being #1 even without Olivia. With all the data missing today (Spotify, Youtube and seemingly Apple Music) he’s only beating Little Mix on Spotify and only by 1.6k streams.

Nope, sadly the other song did nothing on streaming, The Bandit was lucky to be track #1 on NMF

Posted by: Tafty 11th January 2021, 06:26 PM

Sales seem healthier anyway! Little Mix are 2.2k up from same point last week and that was before the sales push happened. So it'll be interesting to see what 'Sweet Melody' ends up on. I'm gonna guess about 28k?

Posted by: Bré 11th January 2021, 06:27 PM

Wow I was not expecting to see 'Save Your Tears' in the top 40 already! wub.gif

The @talkofthecharts Twitter account noted the other day that its rise on streaming platforms following the music video release is reminiscent of that of 'Watermelon Sugar', I can only hope that it goes on to be as big a hit on both sides of the pond as that - one of my favourite songs of 2020 and my favourite song from The Weeknd ever, criminal that it has taken this long for it to get its chance in the limelight but hooray for it finally happening.

I see Bieber is actually still quite far behind Little Mix/Ed, hmm! I guess his advantage on Apple must just not be that big then.

I was wondering why I hadn't seen anything about this Barry Gibb album being a posthumous release. Turns out he's still alive. laugh.gif Must have been confusing him with Robin.

I hope "Prisoner" can hold at #10, but it'll likely fall throughout the week. Glad to see "Midnight Sky" hanging on in the top 40 at #33. Fingers crossed it'll get another week top 40 this week. The album looks safe for another week in the top 20. wub.gif

Agreed, love 100,000 People but find The Bandit a bit meh. Doubt either will be in the top 75 come Friday.

I wonder which if any guitar-driven bands could feasibly still achieve a top 10 single in the streaming era? Arctic Monkeys, perhaps The 1975 with a fair wind. Anyone else?

I think top ten is hard, no matter the genre. I think it would be more reasonable to think top 40 for genre-specific artists such as grime, guitar rock, punk* etc.

Olivia's success is incredible. Was saying last week, with the low sales, that we are in dire need of something big to come and shake up the charts. Never did I think it would be a debut single to do it!

SZA top 15 for me is such a moment too. I never expected this kind of commercial success from her if I am honest, given Good Days is so true to what she does and not at all trying to be a hit. Just shows that she really shines the public love when she just thrives in her authentic sound.

He'll no doubt announce the release date at most one week in advance. Last we knew it was still meant to be in January but apparently got delayed again because of an injury (presumably holding up a video shoot or something).

It is a beige BJSC ballad that would usually scrape top 75, but I am here for it being no.1 if it beats Cheesy Ed and Pop Brat Justin Bibber AND shows BBC1 up for just playing rap songs all the time and basically no pop, AND shows up Spotify for giving more playlist support to men than women. No idea where the hype came from, but it was probably a tik tok miming challenge of some sort.

I Googled her after I'd read she was in High School Musical, only to be a bit baffled with her birthdate of 2003 which would have made her about three years old at the time laugh.gif Turns out there's some sort of Disney+ TV series that started in 2019 and she's the main character.

Would she be the second person born in the 2000s to have a #1 single after Billie Ellish? My chart knowledge post-2016 is pretty low so apologies if I've missed anyone obvious!

As someone who's been listening to Radio 1 a lot in the daytime lately... they definitely play a lot more "pop" than anything else

How many artists born in the 2000s have had a UK #1 single?

QUOTE(Hadji @ Jan 10 2021, 10:03 PM) *
24kGoldn, Billie Eilish and Jawsh 685

Posted by: danuary 12th January 2021, 10:59 PM

How long before we get a 2010s baby in the chart then do we think? We got a 00s baby at #2 as early as December 2010 last decade in Willow.

Blue Ivy came very close in 2019 with a #42 hit (as guest on Beyonce's Brown Skin Girl), it can't be long before she appears on another Beyonce song or has her own song.

People born post-millennium are going to start being the majority of #1s pretty soon, we'd better start getting used to it kink.gif

Nope.

Very happy to still see LM ahead of CJ and Ed - thought they may have slipped behind this week.

I'd say 100k is still not out of the question for Olivia but might depend on what they estimate for Thursday. She should be at least in the 90s anyway.

Posted by: caseclosed 13th January 2021, 01:58 PM

She'll probably close with over 90k, won't she?? She increased nearly 20k since yesterday.

So pleased to see Passenger at #2 - such a good album!

Posted by: Herbs 13th January 2021, 06:03 PM

Passenger has been sending comms today to try and get some more sales - Not really sure he can get anywhere near number one

Posted by: Liam.k. 13th January 2021, 06:06 PM

Precise sales from Music Week have been added to the update. 9,892 of the 12,181 sales from Barry Gibb and 4,032 of the 6,996 sales from Passenger are physical.

'drivers licence' has managed just shy of 5m audio and video streams.

Good that Barry Gibb is actually pulling some sort of halfway decent numbers. At least it's not another week of a sub 10k #1 album.

Strange update with Passenger's total going down and Viagra Boys' album climbing though...

I think she could end up really close to 100k - she should get 21k for the final day plus maybe 12k for missing streams? That would give her 98+.

I think Olivia could go >100K, she has a minimum of 10K more from Spotify + at least 5K from Apple + whatever she gets from YT

It's on ACR so not top 100 right now, but a reset will happen so top 40 next week is looking likely
