I like to pretend that one doesn't exist. It's just beyond gash.
Her solo album was such a bungled release |

Her solo album was such a bungled release True that. At the very beginning of the Real Girl campaign I remember her saying she never really intended on going solo, and that she'd be more content working behind the scenes doing production work. It was her management/label that pushed her into doing the album, and when you think of all the politics/wrongdoings within the industry, you can see why she was hesitant. I also feel that her heart was never 100% in the solo game - she needs Keisha by her side at all times to keep her motivated and on track. |

I'm not sure it really helped that she stayed with the same team, so when Change came along she kind of got shunted to the side. I'd agree it sounds like she may have been encouraged down that path.

100%! As soon as they had About You Now, Mutya's campaign went to shit. At one point she even had a collab lined up with Timbaland - how did things go so wrong!? It's a decent album; just not as amazing as THE MUTYA BUENA'S album should've been.

I'm not sure it's ever the album Mutya wanted either. A lot of more Mutya style material ended up on the discard pile than there should have been.

They completely disregarded her edge. 2 The Limit, Heat and Addiction were more than album worthy.

I pray that one day I'll actually get to hear the full length version of Heat.
The clip is still in my top 10 most played tracks of all time. |

I know, right!? It's amazing! It's the exact 'urban' Mutya they should've went with, and she would've been more comfortable with her image too, I bet.
I'd like to know what happened right before they announced Real Girl as the first single. There must have been big changes behind the scenes, because Heat was actually played on her official website, which would suggest it was in the running to be a (lead) single. |

Based on 2 The Limit, Addiction, Heat & Darkside it does sound like there is a substantially different version of Real Girl out there. Never understood how they picked the songs for that album, some brilliant stuff missed out

Never understood how they picked the songs for that album, some brilliant stuff missed out I just think Crown/Island was a mess A&R wise with Mutya's album. I get having Real Girl leading the album, but in hindsight it probably should've been a 1-2 punch. |
