Very random choice... I'm sure they will slay/make it theirs etc. though! I was just picturing What Is Love or (Everybody's Free) To Feel Good or something like that.

I don't know if I've heard the original before now but it sounds like an odd choice to cover...it's very 90s! Hopefully they'll update it a fair bit, the synth(?) instrumental at about 2:00 is a bit unnecessary. It's all about the music video for Little Mix now anyway, so as long as that's good, it'll force me to love the song

Awesome choice, I'm so excited to hear this. I was fully expecting to hate the song choice, but I like this. Really interested to hear how they do it. Hopefully we get to hear it soon and the video is as fun as the song lends itself too.

It's not from the 90s, it's from 1986.

Such an awesome choice, and I love that absolutely no-one saw it coming.

But I can 100% see it working, without coming across TOO gimicky. I just hope they don't fully abandon the idea of Salute after this because there's so much potential there.

It's not dissimilar to 'Salute' (the song), so they could be testing the water for its release. Honestly though, after giving the album another listen today, I think I'd prefer 'Nothing Feels Like You'. What a banger that is! |

I can imagine this is going to be really good! Good choice in my opinion, very unexpected! The problem is there isn't much chorus and LM are big on choruses, unless they produce it well. I imagine they will, I have faith.

It's probably a "90's song" to them due to Melanie B's version
Really hate this song though. I really hope they do something original with it, but it's going to be a straight cover, isn't it? |

So the single is confirmed as a cover of 80s dance classic 'Word Up!' (they've added the cheesy exclamation mark at the end) and is out on March 16th. This post has been edited by Mango: 17th January 2014, 10:18 AM |

I really had hoped it would be more of a pop number, word up is ok, didnt Mel B cover this too as a single?

I'm surprised at the reaction here, I thought it was a perfect song choice for them. Will obviously reserve judgement until it's actually out but I can see this being really good.

As Bre said in the New Release Schedule, I think they'll still release another single from Salute after this.
It helps them to extend their single campaign and keep their names out there as well as, hopefully, increasing sales. It also means that they can release another slow song from Salute as, while I enjoy the title track, I don't think it would work that well as a single. |

I can picture them singing this. Yeah, this could work, there's enough of their style in there and enough that should be changed so they can make it their own. I'm glad it isn't a ridiculously obvious choice as that would really have been the end (I'd never heard the song before now and I'm willing to bet with their young fanbase not many of them know it either).

I hope they make it their own. The choice of ab-lids they could use could make the song brilliant.
