She mentioned that '(the) third one (is) in the oven' on Instagram stories.
This is great news! Melodrama is one of my favourite albums of recent times so I am hyped for this!
I was very excited when I see the thread
but actually there are no real news, of course she is working on new music but
seeing the thread there was something imminent :/
give us the baby!!!!!!!!!!
Her debut and sophomore records were both perfection so consider me super excited!
I'm not believing this refers to anything other than her baking a third loaf of bread until there's some actual news x
Melodrama is beyond incredible, I’m so excited for this
An update, will be a while yet until we get album 3 it seems, for some understandable reasons:
https://www.reddit.com/r/popheads/comments/dqo8x9/lorde_update_via_email/
Aw that’s so sad
Lorde hinted a 2021 release on Instagram stories.
https://www.reddit.com/r/lorde/comments/j6ziot/lorde_posted_on_her_instagram_story_shes_teasing/
Her Facebook profile photo was updated.
Can we agree to not bump this thread again until there's actual news xox
She's coming!!
That line up ugh!!! The tickets are SO expensive but I am high key tempted for Lorde, Kehlani and Megan alone!
oh my Lorde emerging from retirement
so now we know the album will be out before summer 2022?
i wonder if she's just gonna drop the album and not really bother with singles?
This happening still feels unreal — I need it now.
Ahhhhhhh so excited!!
(also very jealous Jack - hope you have the best time )
Solar Power:
2021/06/21 - 6pm GMT
Jack Antonoff, Ella Yelich O'Connor
3:12
Cover art: Nude/nude illusion of her peaches.
Album is 12 tracks (+2 bonus ones) and seems to be going down a 70’s calm psychedelic route (no green light’s on this album or synth bops by the sounds of it)
New music coming so soon!! <3
Her https://www.lorde.co.nz has updated with the artwork.
Very intrigued by this supposed summer in the seventies album direction.
I am so here for a euphoric, whimsical, lost summer sound! Give us that summertime sadness please!
Well that is definitely... a cover. x
This being described as 70s influenced is making me a little nervous after the last big 70s-influenced female vaguely alt pop era (St. Vincent) did absolutely nothing for me at all. But Lorde basically doesn't miss (we don't talk about 'Ladder Song', that was a cover anyway so it doesn't count) so I should have faith. xx
GIVE IT TO US
I can't believe it's finally happening
in shock at that cover but this way it's sure her comeback won't go unnoticed
bit worried about that description of her new sound, not a big fan of 70s music sounds but let's see
Looks like something (possibly "Mood Ring"?) will be announced/out tomorrow.
can't wait!
Ah Solstice is a good album title! Hopefully they move on FAST from Solar Power, as it is bland.
Being released August 20th apparently!
Tracklist:
1. The Path
2. Solar Power
3. California
4. Stoned at the Nail Salon
5. Fallen Fruit
6. Secrets from a Girl (Who’s Seen it All)
7. The Man with the Axe
8. Dominoes
9. Big Star
10. Leader of a New Regime
11. Mood Ring
12. Oceanic Feeling
Tour announced too! Going to try for tickets on Friday!
I wanted a cute lil cassette or CD
The blue vinyl is sold out for me on her store already 😭 can you get it elsewhere or is it store exclusive?
(Very excited of course!)
Has she really announced a disc-less sleeve 😐
These are the titles of the songs in the deluxe edition of the album.
13. Helen of Troy
14. Hold No Grudge
I wanted the deluxe on vinyl but that's also sold out
I've pre-ordered the golden-brown one now, thanks d*! You can get 10% off the above using the code: RSSEZHEL10
There’s a marbled orange one available in Australia (and won’t ship to the UK before anyone gets excited) but it could end up being the indies exclusive version
This site has the marbled orange, I’ve just ordered
https://driftrecords.com/products/lorde-solar-power
It’s out there now… hope you don’t regret the brown one Haus I got the brown one too, I quite like it because it matches the cover well, I assume it’s supposed to be sun tan coloured
Although I think the brown one will ultimately be significantly more limited
I AM GOING TO GET THE GATEFOLD OFF HER SITE IT'S BACK ON THERE - I WILL CANCEL MY ORDER FOR THE BROWN ONE!? WHAT SHOULD I DO
Thanks guys for all of the information - the blue one is now back on her site so I'll definitely get it
I’ve got the deluxe from her site, I wanted the extra tracks and the gatefold cover
Got the deluxe gatefold off her site too! Will probably cancel the golden-brown one </3
The blue one is absolutely gorgeous
Love the blue and the orange, the only I don't like is the brown one,
hate when artists release brown albums and call it golden when it's actually poo-colour
I love brown as a colour! I think if this does turn out to be 70s inspired then it will fit the aesthetic perfectly.
The only colour vinyl I actively dislike is “milky clear”
The blue variant seems to be sold out everywhere but you can still find it on the German store if you're quick:
https://www.bravado.de/p51-i0602438176519/lorde/solar-power-exclusive-coloured-vinyl/index.html?fbclid=IwAR37skFoL7Yx1ePjKb9WJqkq3b5PpUqWEtLZsJWzrfdtHmb3bR8vtmuIEVI
cd-less seems quite a shocking avenue especially cause the worst that would happen would be it would end up in a charity shop
Wait, is she really not releasing it on CD?
I really like this it is an absolute grower. Hope it climbs at some point
most surprised at Lorde knowing who S Club were!
oh I see, looking at their discography on wiki, three #1s in NZ with their first 3 singles!
I was surprised she knew All Saints too! Solar Power sounds nothing like them though. Maybe Mood Ring will.
I'm sure it's been said already but this really sounds like George Michael's Faith. I'm growing to it after a few listens.
I'm really intrigued by her description of her album, but no less excited.
I liked Solar Power on first listen but it's really grown on me even more, I find myself returning to it a few times a day and the video is lovely. Praying I'm successful in securing tour tickets!
I AM SEEING HER LIVE IN MAY NEXT YEAR
Just got tickets in the presale
Managed to get tickets this morning! Can't wait, she's been high up on my list of artists to see for a while
I wonder if they'll pretend 'Solar Power' never happened and move onto another single?
I can't imagine they will. Lorde doesn't really sell many singles aside from the main two hits.
Lorde's success in the singles chart was just Royals and thats it. Was really a one-off.
As we saw with Green Light, easily the best song of 2017, she's not a big singles artist, if that only got to #19...
I think Solar Power has done its job in re-establishing her back, and most importantly to sell the tour and the album pre-orders, and it did the job, cos the pre-orders of the vinyls sold out in like 1 hour and lots of people were left without the colour variant vinyl they wanted.
Song's not great, so they will move on quickly, seeing as no onr was here for it.
'green light' is a robyn 'dancing on my own' waiting to happen.
Cannot find the leak myself but apparently California leaked and it's all kinds of amazing
and all the Solar Power haters do love it
"Stoned at the Nail Salon" will be out this Wednesday.
such a name
love the title!
I really like Stoned… on first listen. The lyrics are particularly beautiful and it makes me immediately think of Lana with all of the little details and descriptors thrown in.
Loving 'Stoned...' it's very wistful and like Dandy said it's quite Lana! It's gentle and kinda that sad acceptance of what life has thrown at you and reflecting on it. Very excited for the album
Stone is sounding lovey, very excited for this album
Stoned is lovely.
Well it's a million times better than that horrendous first single.
love it <3 it's very Lana, very NFR, sounds almost like Hope is a Dangerous thing...
Stoned.. is absolutely gorgeous
i'm v. interested to hear the track inspired by s club 7 lol
I've been listening non-stop to Stoned.. and I honestly think it's my favourite song of the year so far. Utterly divine!
Lorde del Rey
‘stoned’ is incredible.
She never fails to knock it outta the park for me - so ready for the album! So so ready! .. desperate infact
Stoned 🥺🥺
Terrible. This just isn't a stellar era.
I thought 'Solar Power' was good but definitely an underwhelming comeback after so many years away, would have been one of the weaker songs on either of her previous albums for me (the same song by nearly any other artist I'd have been pretty happy with I think but I have higher expectations for Lorde xx), just a song that takes a bit too long to properly get going and then ends too soon when it finally does, happy to say that I am liking 'Stoned At The Nail Salon' waaaaay more so that's restoring my hype for this era. I am still expecting it to not really match up to the quality of her previous 2 albums but she set a ridiculously high bar with those in fairness!
SATNS definitely has more than a little bit of a Lana vibe to it as countless people have already pointed out but I think I do like it more than the Lana songs it's been compared to.
Mood Ring out tomorrow I believe!!!!
tbh i wasn't impressed with 'green light' or 'pretty places' when they first dropped... still don't LOVE 'green light'.
"Mood Ring" is out at 7pm. BST.
Hopefully it is far better than those other two songs I NEVER go back to - especially the awful Stoned - but this looks like her Witness era.
Mood Ring is out there and it's amazing <3 <3 <3
sounds a bit like a mix of Natalie Imbruglia's Torn and All Saints' Pure Shores
Where did you hear it?
it leaked yesterday so if you google it you can find it in all those illegal sites
otherwise it will be out legally this afternoon/evening
I'm managing some self-control this era — somehow — and avoiding the two singles as much as possible and now ignoring the leaks. You can tell she wants this to be listened to as a complete set, and I don't really want to rush into it and then have another five-year wait for the next one.
well she's already released 2 songs officially ahead of the album and a third one tonight
so I'd argue she wants us to listen to those, if not she would have done a folklore and drop the album out of the blue (which I truly think is what she should have done!!!)
This is the first of the four I've heard that I love straight away. It gives me Madonna 'American Life' era vibes (the softer side of it, obviously not the title track haha).
I couldn't get into the two singles at all, I'm hoping they'll grow within the context of the album...and I've only heard California once but wasn't in a rush to listen to it again.
Haha I'm awful with comparisons so don't take my word for it!
MOOD RING IS A SERVE!!!!
out now, amazing song and video package <3 but not sure about blonde-Lorde
Definitely hearing All Saints again in that one and I'm loving it. Really excited for the album now, it's definitely going to be a whole new mood from her but I think it could really work.
I love mr
and again Phoebe Bridgers and Clairo on backing vocals <3
That's really nice! Easily my favourite thing I've heard of the era so far, and it also sounds like something I could imagine being a big hit.
What do we reckon it will do in the album charts?
I thought it could be #1 but I'm starting to have doubts, especially as I read Olivia is releasing the vinyls x Sour on Friday.
Just checked and Pure Heroine opened at #4 with 18K and Melodrama opened at #5 with 17K... but even if she performs similarly, Olivia probably will do slightly better since she's already doing 12K on streams alone.
here's what MW wrote when Melodrama was released:
Lorde was a few days short of her 17th birthday when her first album Pure Heroine debuted and peaked at No.4 (18,294 sales)hot on the heels of introductory single Royals topping the singles chart in November 2013. Now 20, the singer/songwriter from New Zealand recently had her biggest hit singles since that time when Green Light reached No.20 in April. It was the first single from her second album, Melodrama, which sold 17,026 copies last week, and debuts at No.5. Both Lorde albums have topped the chart in her home country, and Melodrama is on schedule to provide her first US No.1 album this weekend too.
'green light' is actually next to unbearable in my opinion.
'green light' is actually next to unbearable in my opinion.
opposite for me, it's a masterpiece in melody, song structure, lyrics, everything
in my opinion it should be taught at music schools
just that line about "she thinks you love the Bech, you're such a damn liar" is pure genius
it's a song that really comes from the guts
thats a heartbreak anthem, not the Guetta/Little Mix thing
hahaha true
yeah for me 'green light' is like 'dancing on my own' by Robyn where their loved online but I just don't love them...
I love the lyrical content of 'green light' - it's just the song itself melody wise that grates on me...
I really like Mood Ring - looking forward to hearing the full album. I always much prefer listening to Lorde's albums from beginning to end rather than random songs.
Really loving Mood Ring, I love all 3 songs so far actually think this will be my favourite ever Lorde album. I’ve never really have her much attention other than her singles in the past but loving this era !
so excited to play this as an album tomorrow
Good review but low score from Pitchfork
https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/lorde-solar-power/?fbclid=IwAR1fiK_KNqix9x9iVI5UO0ZlwuCZ77k53TkmvoR5WJS9RkqBrL9TO2EFOfA
I haven't seen an album this divisive amongst both critics and fans in quite some time. 'Pure Heroine' and 'Melodrama' were both formative albums for me in some ways, so I am a little nervous to dive in...
yes I think it's gonna be more divisive than Melodrama, which was universally acclaimed
I appreciate that she’s come back with something so unexpected, but yeah, this album isn’t for me 🤡
Her lyrics about growing up always stab me in the heart because we're the same age, these in particular:
"Don't you think the early 2000s seem so far away?"
"Couldn't wait to turn fifteen. Then you blink and it's been ten years."
😭 the album has this sad, nostalgic feel to it but with a warm, breezy production style that occasionally dips in to psychedelic - the closer 'Oceanic Feeling' was probably the most interesting for me. I'm also really into 'Mood Ring' right now. I think I need time for more of the individual album tracks to stand out more for me but I enjoyed the general style. It's not really in the same league as 'Pure Heroine' or 'Melodrama', I guess her former dark electronic shtick was more to my taste as lovely as this is, but I don't feel massively disappointed or anything, knowing what the pre-album songs sounded like.
I really like the overall vibe of this and found it a really nice listen this morning. There was a patch on the second half where I felt the tracks merged a bit before Mood Ring but I probably just need to give them more time.
This vinyl is so pretty (lol at the sticker placement)
this is just WOW... 'oceanic feeling' has to be one of her best tracks EVER?
Ps… a Robyn appearance? *.*
oh cannot wait for the vinyl to arrive, also got the blue one, but just got a notification it's been sent today
so I guess it's gonna take a while...
I have listened to it ... omg, even worse than I was expecting. Can ah get a Witness, Witness...
The only song that stands out, kinda, is California. Oceanic Feeling is ... okay, but it totally misses the mark. She wanted a dreamy, mystical Coldplay Mindight, All Saints dream pop, but it just ended up a meandering mess!
Hard pass. All the songs sound the same, and you are waiting for all of them to pop off, only for them to peter out or stop abruptly. What is this??
The ONLY song that stands out... have you even listened to the album?
'Oceanic Feeling' is wonderful
Both of the bonus tracks on the deluxe would have worked on the album, wish she’d just put them on the standard version as they would have helped break the sound up without being too different.
Everyone is allowed a stinker of an album - GaGa survived Artflop! It's actually better if this does a Witness or Artpop, as then less people will be aware of the low quality, and be onboard more easily with the next album, thinkin it was just a big break. That is what saved GaGa: no one had even heard of Artpop or Joanne outside the fan circles.
Lorde is more protected against stinker albums, anyway, as an indie pop artist. Lana put out some awful albums between Born To Die and NFR, and she just kept going, only to come back better than ever!
Mood Ring is indeed very early 00s pop sounding, I like the song.
The short songs in the second half are largely skippable but everything else ranges from nice to very lush. My favourites are 'The Path', 'Fallen Fruit', 'Secrets From A Girl (Who's Seen It All)' - that closing monologue !!!, 'Stoned at the Nail Salon' (my favourite on the album) and 'Mood Ring' which is just sublime.
Overall, FARRRRR from her best album, but a nice listen.
I will definitely listen to this again in a couple of weeks and hope that more songs will grow on me then (I've only listened to it today because Bal wanted to do a Discord clique listenthrough on day 1, thought I may as well make an exception from my current streak of taking weeks to get around to listening to new music since it is Lorde ) but on a first listenthrough this album is... a substantial step down from her other 2 (as I expected) but still quite good, assuming some of the tracks do grow on me a bit I think it's ending up being a little bit better than I was expecting it to be after the underwhelming lead single and fairly lukewarm reviews it's had so far.
'The Path' sounds to me like it is the song that 'Solar Power' was trying to be - that and 'Fallen Fruit' (the folksy instrumentation and the brief darker sounding beat switch halfway through *.*) are by farrr the standouts from the album tracks for me right now (joining 'Stoned At The Nail Salon' for my top 3 of the album as a whole). Aside from that I also thought 'The Man With The Axe' was really lovely, and 'California'/'Mood Ring'/'Oceanic Feeling' all struck me as songs that I currently think are decent/good but definitely have the potential to grow into bigger highlights. 'Secrets From A Girl (Who's Seen It All)' reminds me a lot of beabadoobee's recent output, very 90s radio hit worship, unfortunately I'm not always massively into that style and I'm not sure I'm too sold on this song either, but it may also be a grower. I feel like I can probably safely dismiss 'Dominoes'/'Big Star'/'Leader Of A New Regime' as being unlikely to grow into anything more than pleasant but forgettable ('Dominoes' in particular is probably taking over as my least favourite song in her discography oops, it pretty much washed over me completely, at least it is over quickly).
I think Pitchfork giving this a 6.8 is pretty much on the money (sad to say), I might rate it a little higher than that myself especially if more songs do grow on me but probably no more than about a 7.5/10. I'm just happy enough that there are at least 3 songs on there that I'd rank up there with the highlights of her previous albums as I wasn't too sure I'd even get that based on what she chose to be the lead single...!
I think I agree with all reviews that this is a good album but not as good as previous. But still good.
For me, I miss a killer song, there is no song that is an 11/10 for me...
and for me, I think I like my artists when they make sad depressing songs rather than happy songs
but of course Lorde cannot fake it, if she's on a happy place she cannot write breakup anthems like Green Light...
The deluxe edition bonus tracks...
I'm sure neither would convert anyone who doesn't like the main album but I'd take either over Dominoes through Leader of a New Regime.
Also... I've done my usual juggling of the album and I think the following works a lot better:
A1 The Path
A2 Mood Ring
A3 Stoned at the Nail Salon
A4 Hold No Grudge
A5 Helen of Troy
A6 Secrets From a Girl (Who's Seen it All)
B1 Solar Power
B2 Fallen Fruit
B3 Oceanic Feeling
B4 The Man with the Axe
B5 California
B6 Leader of a New Regime
B7 Big Star
As for the album as a whole, I'm enjoying it quite a lot now. It's not the masterpiece that Melodrama was but I really like that we have something from her that fits a whole different mood/vibe and it makes me really appreciate her as an artist - I love that I have no idea where she will go from here on in.
I like that you just removed 'Dominoes' entirely
I didn't realise it had bonus tracks - hope they will be added to Spotify at a later date but I will make sure to check them out at some point regardless.
love Helen of Troy, wish it was in the album
Yes I shuffled Oceanic Feeling back to the end on the last revision. I find Solar Power after The Path a little bit like a not quite so good version of a similar song where as mid way through it seems to sound more fresh to me - edit, for absolutely nobody's interest other than my own I've settled on...
A1 The Path
A2 Mood Ring
A3 Stoned at the Nail Salon
A4 Helen of Troy
A5 Solar Power
A6 Secrets From a Girl (Who's Seen it All)
B1 California
B2 Fallen Fruit
B3 The Man with the Axe
B4 Hold No Grudge
B5 Leader of a New Regime
B6 Big Star
B7 Oceanic Feeling
Nice album review for The Guardian
https://www.theguardian.com/music/2021/aug/21/lorde-solar-power-review
The final minute of 'California' perfectly captures that wistful summer feeling I think they were going for across the record — but didn't quite reach. It's stunning.
I think what pains me the most with this album as a whole is how much potential it had to be something really great — the bones are here. It starts strong but becomes one-note towards the end, and it feels like a conscious decision was made to rein it in and not let moments be moments.
It's... "nice" enough, I appreciate what she was going for but it's not exactly an enthralling listen (like Melodrama was)
i listened through yesterday and have to admit i wasn't grabbed by anything until mood ring - and now i just have that on repeat as it is SO good! hoping to be hooked with a few more listens - think it would help if it was sunny out lol.
The discourse surrounding this album online is utterly insane.
I really quite like this. Reminds me of an experimental Joni Mitchell moment.
Mood Ring is lovely
she is amazing <3
‘Mood Ring’ def the album highlight from my first listen!
It's currently competing with Olivia Rodrigo for No.1. Solar Power is leading on digital downloads but Sour is leading in physical copies and streams.
there aren't any physical cds for this are there? only vinyl?
she was selling also a disc-less CD so you were basically buying a box with no cd inside but a download code... it was like 15 pounds so not sure if anyone bought it
That’s the same code I got with my vinyl, worth it as at least it contained the bonus tracks. I’ve seen a few of these sort of things before and they usually, rather like a dandy* hosted thing on Buzzjack, start with a bang and lots of promise before very quickly fizzling out to one minor update every 6 months - if updated at all.
Dandy out here describing my love life
I just wanted to drop in and say I am completely and utterly OBSESSED with Solar Power (the song) now. I'm enjoying the album too, but nothing has really stuck yet aside from the title track, Mood Ring and Secrets.
Highlights for me are "The Path", "Solar Power" & "Mood Ring". Nothing else quites grab my attention, but the album as a whole is a pleasant listen.
Everything has really grown on me. I'm never going to love it as much as Melodrama but I'm definitely enjoying the whole thing now. In particular I'm loving The Path, California, Fallen Fruit, Mood Ring and Oceanic Feeling
'Secrets (From A Girl)' has clicked with me so much... that closing monologue.
The first half is nice enough but that second half up to Mood Ring is really boring. I might end up giving half of it semi-regular listens.
California live on Corden:
Listened to the album once and it was pleasant enough, but I won't ever listen to it again. Oh well.
'Mood Ring' continues to grow. The big keeper from this album along with 'Stoned at the Nail Salon'! Both are utterly sublime.
oh my turquoise blue vinyl finally arrived! one of the prettiest vinyls I've ever seen <3
I'm addicted to "Mood Ring". I hope they push it as the next single.
Mood Ring is the current single already added to R1 last week and all Spotify playlists
Mood Ring up to A-list on R1 we love to see it <3
The album debuts at 4 here in Ireland.
#2 in the UK with 12K
How is the midweek looking so far in the second week?
not great, 2-31 so far
^can you stop posting in this thread please
you reach a point where this is trolling
Only me who thinks it’s holding up pretty well compared to expectations?
2 is higher than Melodrama in the UK though lol
It's really not even worth paying attention to the album chart beyond week 1 for most releases these days frankly.
Te Ao Mārama, an EP sung entirely in te reo Māori, is available now.
WOW! I'll be checking this out
Music video for 'Fallen Fruit' (yay for it getting one, this has firmly established itself as my favourite song from this era now):
Also the bonus tracks from the deluxe edition are being released on streaming services on Friday apparently! (Glad that is actually happening, I assumed it would eventually but then I was reminded of the fact that 'No Better' is to this day still not on Spotify I haven't listened to the 'Solar Power' bonus tracks yet as I didn't want to rely on a randomer uploading them to YouTube although I probably would have done that eventually if they looked like they were never going to be given a proper digital release).
That Māori EP was kind of cute although I haven't gone back to any of those versions beyond the one listen oops (I think the 'Solar Power' and 'Oceanic Feeling' ones were the best done iirc, in particular the chanting in the outro of 'Solar Power' actually sounds a lot better in the Māori version)
oh nice that she's not giving up on the album
the bonus tracks are indeed worth listening and could easily have been on the album proper
She's been continuing to slowly crank out music videos from this era, apparently still another 2 of them to come. Really enjoyed the music video for 'Secrets From A Girl (Who's Seen It All)' with her bringing back the aesthetics from each of the previous eras.
She also did a video for 'Leader Of A New Regime' for some reason
Secrets of a Girl (Who’s Seen it All) added to Radio 1's playlist today! What!!!
i was about to ask if SOAG was a single as i've just heard it on R1
It was added to the C List on Friday!
as posted above
Listening to this album in full for the first time in months and I really cannot think of a more disappointing project — ever? I honestly don't know if this is hyperbole or not either.
I'm not sure how Jack went from 'Melodrama', 'Norman f***ing Rockwell', 'Masseduction' — albums packed with personality and interesting production flourishes (even NFR) to this. It's really lacking in joy, something it supposedly wants to emit.
She should've just made a cute small EP with the best tracks...
1. Solar Power
2. Mood Ring
3. Fallen Fruit
4. Secrets From A Girl
5. Stoned At The Nail Salon
6. The Path
i think this album is better than 'melodrama' tbh.
i mean 'melodrama' is nice enough... but i prefer the sonic pallette here and i think there's more interesting melodies and lyrics
Of all the ridiculous things dannjohn has said that may be one of the worst x
I think after having time to mellow with the tracks on this album it is a bit better than I initially gave it credit for but it's still leagues behind her other two albums, 'Fallen Fruit' is really the only song on it that goes toe to toe with her biggest discography highlights.
That said, it's not even the most disappointing 2021 release by a female singer whose name starts with L for me. Blue Banisters exists
For me ‘Mood Ring’ is one of her best ever tracks!
opinions are subjective brer.
i think 'solar power' just embodies who Lorde is. I feel 'Solar Power' has more interesting melodies in it... 'Big Star', 'Mood Ring' and 'Secrets From a Girl' are just top tier tracks.
With 'Melodrama' I only really feel that way about 'Liability'
I take back what I said. You calling 'Big Star' a highlight of 'Solar Power' is an even worse thing to say.
(Here for the 'Liability' love though)
I'm also team 'Solar Power' here x
It’s up there with Kanye’s last few albums for me in terms of biggest disappointments (although I still have hope I’ll like the next album, whereas for Kanye I think I’m done with him :’) ). Melodrama is one of my favourite albums of the last ten years and this is just…there. Definitely the biggest disappointment of last year for me.
And no Blue Banisters slander pls, it’s one of Lana’s best!
Yeah I totally agree that this is her weakest album by quite some distance, coming after the standard of the first two (I do echo the 'Mood Ring' love though)
She was absolutely fantastic tonight in Leeds, first stop on her European tour.
Although Solar Power is my least favourite of her 3 albums (and that’s not to say I dislike it at all!), it really does come to life when played live and I’m looking forward to revisiting it tomorrow.
And Mood Ring is just a banger!!
Went with Jade to see her in Birmingham on Monday - got pretty lucky with the setlist (spoiler tags in case they're necessary which they probably aren't x), apparently she's been alternating between performing 'Hard Feelings/Loveless' and 'The Louvre' and the Birmingham date got the latter, that's my favourite Lorde song vs. one that I don't rate particularly highly! (albeit I'm aware many others do x). This was also her live debut of 'Helen Of Troy' (taking a spot in the encore that looks like it was previously mostly held by 'Hold No Grudge'), and she dropped 'Dominoes' in favour of 'Big Star', all three of these changes are upgrades for me *.* 'Big Star' was not a favourite for me at all from the album but it was already growing on me a bit revisiting her discog ahead of the concert and it sounded really lovely live, down to the album only having 2 real duds for me ('Dominoes' and 'Leader Of A New Regime'). 'Solar Power' the song sounded way better live than it ever has on record, an unexpected highlight especially with the massive confetti explosion into the crowd during the chant at the end! 'Fallen Fruit' was as much of a moment live as I thought it would be though, the bass kicking in halfway through 'Ribs' and 'Supercut' were also major highlights in a live setting!
Had a great time, especially as we ended up being able to sit with our very own HausEatsGrandma in the balcony <3 knew he was going to be there as well ages ago but only recently found out we both had balcony tickets and it was still a bit of a stroke of luck that we were able to find each other inside the venue haha after Bal initially walked past us in the queue without noticing us. Apologies to the support act Marlon Williams as I wasn't paying any attention at all between looking for Bal and then chatting to him when he arrived oops xx
Also she said gay rights (literally) so we stan.
The crowd jumping up and down with Lorde while the instrumental part of 'Ribs' a few minutes in was blasting through the venue was peak euphoria tbh
it's funny that she has like an A setlist and a B setlist, and it's just 3 changes but much prefer one to the other
Is there any other similar sounding albums? Really love this album perfect for sunbathing
I saw the Tour last night in Verona and it was just MAGICAL.
EVERY song just SHONE so bright, and the setting couldn't be more akin to the sound of the album being in a (very hot evening) in a Medieval castle. I will never forget last night.
My boyfriend also proposed (earlier in the day) so it was an all kind of emotions day.
She also sang Writer in The Dark and she put the microphone to us on the second chorus so that we could sing WITH her! Gotta love a redemption queen.
Basically if you can go and see this Tour, do NOT hesitate!
i'm seeing her in Ali Pali next week and excited as it's the first ever show i'm seeing there (also annoying because I lived LITERALLY behind Ali Pali for 3 years and there was never anything good on).
Awwwww congratulations Vülker, that’s so nice to read
Hope we get a video to fallen fruit, absolutely gorgeous that song
Truly atrocious album.
Very interesting email she sent yesterday about the album itself and the reaction to it:
After listening to single three and therefore the album again I really enjoy it now!
i've always been v. forward thinking with my tastes... this album is just IT.
There is a video for my favourite album track now - which also stars her brother:
Lorde said she's already working on Album 4 <3
Finally getting into Oceanic Feeling! Even seen it live and it didn’t click. Just feeling the need for some inner peace like this track brings more than ever. Perfect for late summer!
