BuzzJack Music Forum _ R&B and Hip-Hop _ Janet Jackson ● album survivor ~ ROUND 2

First out by some distance it's Janet's second studio album: Dream Street. Released in 1984, the album saw Janet going more pop than her debut, but despite this, it was not a commercial success and didn't catapult her to stardom as her team expected. The album's singles 'Don't Stand Another Chance', 'Two to the Power of Love', 'Fast Girls' and the title track similarly did not dent the US charts or any charts really across the globe. The album doesn't really show the magic that the world later went on to learn Janet possessed and so it comes as no surprise that it's the first out here!

We also lose her debut album: Janet Jackson. The album that begun her journey, and yet it sounds so far away from the sound that became synonymous with her during her later career. From the album cover (inspired by a Harry Langdon photo of Elizabeth Taylor), it is clear that the power and grit that she grew to possess is here subdued and more innocent. The album was not a roaring success globally and its singles ('Young Love', 'Come Give Your Love to Me', 'Say You Do', 'Love and My Best Friend', 'Don't Mess Up This Good Thing') similarly have not really stood the test of time. It's a cute listen but largely not hugely memorable or remarkable.

I really like all of the albums left once we get rid of the first two! I have to go for 'Discipline' as for me it lacks a lot of her charm and passion and while it's very fun and explosive, it's the one I probaby return to least.

I also HATE the album artwork and that's something she gets right every single other time! laugh.gif

I'm going for 20 Y.O. as I can't recall anything from it, it goes too far into the R&B route for me and lacks elements that make it distinctive. On the couple of times I listened to it I just found it really dull.
