Anaconda is OA/OS then. Will be interesting to see how this one does. It's complete trash but I kind of like it in a weird way

Predictions:

Am I Wrong - #1
Love Runs Out - #4

Jessie's done great to get that high, though i'm still fairly certain it won't make the top 40 officially (keep in mind Vic Mensa debuted at #18 initially last week, and now there's a good chance it'll miss out sad.gif)

Posted by: Jonjo 3rd August 2014, 04:37 AM

Hope 'Love Runs Out' can get to number 1 eventually, especially as it's heavily featured on the new Xfactor advert biggrin.gif

Posted by: SLlewellyn 3rd August 2014, 06:14 AM

I wonder which of OneRepublic, Maroon 5 and The Script's three new tracks will sell the most in the long run. All bands fill a similar gap in the market, so it's odd to see them all releasing at the same time. The success of "Ghost" should hopefully benefit "Love Runs Out" anyway, they sound similar in parts (due to Tedder's songwriting credits obviously).

Team Nico & Winz for #1 though, one of the best tracks of the year - hope it can sell well!

Also Team Jessie Ware just to get a T40 hit, darn streaming better not ruin this for her!

Amazing how one massive hit can remind the public that a band exists - Moves Like Jagger reignited Maroon 5's career and Counting Stars breathed new life into OneRepublic. There's no way on earth Love Runs Out would have done this well if Counting Stars hadn't existed, mainly because radio would be ignoring it right now like they were with Secrets/All The Right Moves etc...

Posted by: GRIFF 3rd August 2014, 08:53 AM

Well that's the point isn't it - if radio didn't play the song, then the public wouldn't know about it.

Posted by: Mart!n 3rd August 2014, 09:07 AM

I pretty much like the adult boy band with the likes of Maroon 5, The Script and One Republic in the chart at the same time, its like I've stepped through a timewarp heehee.gif

Yeah but what they meant is that if Counting Stars had never existed, then radio wouldn't be touching Love Runs Out.

Just makes you wonder how many other bands have been forced out of relevance too soon because of radio dictating the status quo!

Posted by: gooddelta 3rd August 2014, 10:06 AM

On another note, it's pretty significant that Nico & Vinz will be only the second all-Norwegian chart topping song ever after A-Ha's The Sun Always Shines On TV. A1 had a couple too of course with Christian from the band being from Norway. This compares to around 20 chart topping songs from Sweden (ABBA x 8, Ace of Base, Rednex, Avicii x 2, Icona Pop, Europe, Basshunter, Robyn, Swedish House Mafia, Alesso - sure I'm forgetting somebody else?), 0 from Finland and Iceland and 4 from Denmark (3 from Aqua and 1 from Whigfield).

Gooddelta - Aqua were not a wholly Danish Group. Their female lead singer - Lene Nystrřm - is Norwegian.
ABBA had 9 UK No.1 Singles, not 8. They are not a wholly Swedish Group. Frida was born in Norway. Her
mother was Norwegian & her father was German.

And with Check It Out, it was probably will.i.am's party that got the song held back as he was also the lead artist on it, so it's basically the first time Nicki has held back one of her songs.

They've also entered the top 100 with a second song ('The Seeds You Sow' at #96). biggrin.gif

Barely paid any attention to iTunes so far this week. 'Am I Wrong' is great, another very predictable #1 but no complaints about the song. A little surprised at OneRepublic doing so well, thought they'd be around #6 or so but they look like they'll be very easily top 3. Jessie Ware still in the top 20, this surely must be a first top 40 for her now! Not heard it yet but fabulous for her.

Oh and there's also this:

arrow up.gif 14. Ed Sheeran "Thinking Out Loud"

Completely overshadowing the actual second single "Don't" (arrow up.gif to #28 though), seems we're going to have three Ed songs in the T40 for a while yet.

arrow up.gif 42. Clean Bandit "Come Over (feat. Stylo G)"

Released officially on Sunday, is it too much to ask that it scrape the T40 at some point?

The video for 'Don't' has just premiered so it might re-overtake 'Thinking Out Loud' soon - so odd that the latter is continuing to remain ahead and only climb though, I know it has some airplay but 'Don't' has airplay as well and from the radio stations that you'd think would 'count' more unsure.gif

I've heard Thinking Out Loud on Heart FM a lot, unsurprisingly. The best thing could be to promote both singles and release a video for TOL soon as well.

She was topless against a backdrop of a Nazi party rally from Reichsparteitagsgelände on Channel 5 for their alternative coverage to mark 100 years since the great war started.

(actually she performed at the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games but I had you there for a minute~)

To be honest I thought it was looking better than usual for them - it's been about top 1000 (top 50 upon inital pre-order) for about 6 weeks now, so they should get a top 40 out of it, I was expecting them to drop completely out after a week of being on pre-order (bit like the Sats have done). Obviously they're going to be cained by the inclusion of steaming, but I don't think a top 10 is out of the question for them. I'm guessing it will debut high and drop like a stone, like their previous releases.

Debuted on Zane Lowe's show last night and received another play on Fearne Cotton's show this morning. Can only assume the continued rise is due to word spreading about their new material. Would be nice to have a bit of rock in the official charts again, Twin Atlantic should add to that with their new single soon (though it's more rock-pop than anything).

As much as I am LOVING this new revival for 1R, I really do wish that 'Secrets' & 'Say (All I Need)' had got them more success over here. 'Secrets' was pretty big in America, wasn't it? So to see it not even chart here was not only baffling, but pretty heartbreaking to see. I do believe all 'Secrets' needs is an X Factor boost or something!

lol this is exactly what I thought when I first heard it, but then I found out that he co-produced it. Whilst I didn't like Wake Me Up very much, I did at least appreciate that Avicii tried something a bit different, but if every dance-pop producer starts doing this country/folk kind of thing it'll get quite annoying.

I hope the song is out next week, as it's not THAT high on pre-orders that it guarantees a #1, but if it's out later it looks like it'll get there. sad.gif

'Lovers On The Sun' is nice but not even close to as good or original as 'Shot Me Down' (unpopular opinion, I know) or 'Bad'. Wouldn't be shocked in any way if it does hit #1 though.

Posted by: mr_aly 5th August 2014, 09:01 PM

Surely 'Shot Me Down' is equally (at least) unoriginal in the way it's a sloppy cover that copied the backing track of 'Animals' so shamelessly?

I really enjoyed 'Bad', but he's becoming the new Cascada in the way he rips off recent hits so much.

He was right to pull 'Blast Off' as a single, it would of flopped and after 'Bad' underperforming I think it would of been the final straw for the likes of Radio 1 to look at his music. Whilst it's not original, 'Lovers On The Sun' is a great familiar feel good pop/dance record that people enjoy, hence why it's doing well on pre-orders. While I don't think we've seen any examples of the chart eligible instant grat not being the first one (apart from Eminem but all 4 were released at once), the rules state they're allowed to nominate a specific one, right? So they could sacrifice 3 weeks of Problem charting to have Break Free. If they cared that is; considering this random midweek timing and that they deleted the Problem single, it's probably safe to assume they don't (despite caring enough to hold back Problem??). Oh well, I like the song but I wasn't fond of the idea of Zedd getting another big hit anyway ~

Edit: Looks like Break Free still isn't on UK Spotify, it's doing really well in the US & Australia so it certainly would help it out when it's allowed to chart if they made it available now.

Problem was initially released as a 1-track single, but they deleted that and made it available to buy off the album pre-order (which makes it an instant grat) a few weeks ago. SLSP was never made available off the album pre-order, just the single, so Good Girls was the first instant grat, making it chart eligible by default. Ed Sheeran was similar to the latter in that One was the first instant grat, though Sing was changed to an instant grat like a day before album release, if I recall correctly.

About the stupidest way they could have dealt with it. Half way between OA/OS and held back for months, released midweek and not even eligible to chart on top of all of that. It's like they're actively trying to handle this era as badly as possible.

Also, Meghan's pre-order is finally making an impact! wub.gif

If you're of the 'Jessie J is too screechy' opinion then you certainly won't like Bang Bang.

Nicki's part isn't that big, she does one rap verse.

lol yeah. I wonder if/when it'll overtake it. I think it probably will since I can't see Don't missing the top 10, whilst I can't see Thinking Out Loud making top 10 just off Heart FM airplay (or mainly that).

Posted by: scratchy23 7th August 2014, 02:23 PM

This reminds me of the Beyonce XO/Drunk In Love situation, Drunk In Love was the CLEAR favourite of all the tracks on 'BEYONCÉ' but the label were pushing for XO to be the lead single. But Drunk In Love being so popular totally overshadowed it, and both tracks suffered as a result.

In the same way, the label needs to realise that Thinking Out Loud is the obvious favourite track on 'x' (besides Sing of course), they need to push 'Don't' back, and give Thinking Out Loud all the space it needs to shine. Otherwise, both tracks are gonna peak in the mid-teens.

I'm sure Beyonce manages herself so it would have been her decision to release two singles, one for urban radio and one for commercial, I don't think she expected Drunk In Love to do better tbh

That only makes sense in the US where 'urban radio' is a thing (I know such stations exist in the UK but they're not really anything more than a niche). In the UK 'Drunk In Love' wasn't a current single at all for most of its chart run.

Posted by: mr_aly 7th August 2014, 03:22 PM

I'm pretty sure they're saving 'Thinking Out Loud' for the big X-Factor performance and it'll be a mega top 3 hit around that point.

Posted by: Noahspike 7th August 2014, 03:31 PM

I really don't see much of an issue with the 'Don't'/'Thinking Out Loud' situation and think the label was right not to switch singles. Ed's level of popularity means that they can co-exist and probably still both achieve a top 10 placing at some point. 'Don't' has just been A-listed on Radio 1 and a video was released a few days ago so it's still too early to say that it'll underperform due to 'Thinking Out Loud' being ahead (if an underperformance is seen as anything lower than top 10). Even if it doesn't get there, having two (nearly three) songs currently in the iTunes top 20 isn't exactly doing any harm to album sales (which is the primary focus)! I've always thought 'Thinking Out Loud' has a classic feel to it, not unlike 'Someone Like You', so I don't think its current charting will damage its potential peak too much. I'd assume it'll get an X Factor performance and be hammered on radio throughout Q4, as mr_aly has said.

Posted by: steve201 7th August 2014, 03:44 PM

Yeh Dont will go top 10/20 in the coming weeks and Thinking will get an XF performance and be massive right up until the new year and sell alot in the long run like the album - not sure where both will peak though!

Posted by: { bré } 7th August 2014, 04:05 PM

Don't is now on the verge of re-overtaking anyway (only lagging by 4 places and it'll continue to catch up as its airplay increases).

Ouch. Such flops. A low top 40 single isn't the best way to lead a Greatest Hits era, it'll certainly increase the chance of them splitting/getting dropped anyway

Posted by: mr_aly 7th August 2014, 04:49 PM

As I just suggested in their forum, I do believe their label are releasing the GH to wrap up their contract and end them after Living For The Weekend.

They've put precisely zero effort into it so it does make sense.

Posted by: Liаm 7th August 2014, 04:51 PM

They're probably discouraged by the lack of radio support, but promo would get them higher than very low top 40, which about the best outcome I can see drama.gif ugh, it's such a good song too, gonna be a gutting flop.

Posted by: Jack 7th August 2014, 05:17 PM

Posted by: Joe. 7th August 2014, 05:21 PM

Unless you have a really massive performance on Tv, there's just really nothing you can do if the radios have snubbed you.

Posted by: Liаm 7th August 2014, 05:23 PM

The initial pre-order "success" gives me the tiniest hope they'll make it on sales, streaming will probably push them down to like #43 sad.gif it's so frustrating with all the crap that can cruise to top 40/20/10 on nothing at all, but mostly becsuse they've put hardly any effort into this single... It's almost like it's a buzz single for the fans or an album promo single. Although even promo can only do so much with a lack of radio support I guess. It's a shame, but not a surprise unfortunately.

Posted by: SevenSeize 7th August 2014, 05:49 PM

They have the national Lottery on Saturday evening and a couple of small performances in the week. It's going to be touch and go.
They've always been a group that out-do what their pre-orders suggest, but these have been shockingly bad. Though it did go to like #100 initially. I'm thinking about 25 for sales, maybe 30 - 35 after streaming.

they're actually at #755. On the pop chart. Currently being outsold by Disco Love of all Sats songs.

Oh I must have got mixed up, I thought Bré was telling me an iTunes update when in fact it must have been a sneak preview of his next personal chart!

Great to see Duke top 100 already, hopefully it can keep on climbing!

Hoping Lilly can do the same soon, so close!

Foxes - Glorious (#188)

Pixie Lott - Lay Me Down (#199)

Glorious has great production! It's one of my favourite songs right now..

Posted by: JAY17 8th August 2014, 10:20 PM

10th Aug Kiesza - Giant In My Heart
17th Aug Wankelmut & Emma Louise - My Head Is A Jungle (MK Remix)
24th Aug Duke Dumont - Won't Look Back

In a perfect world these would be three consecutive number ones heart.gif

I think Kiesza, and Duke most defiantly, are in for a good shot, but sadly not Wankelmut, as I'm sure David Guetta will get to the top.

Don't think Kiesza stands a chance of #1 myself - she's only picked up this past week, before then it was doing good but not great. Expecting around #3 maybe for it.

Still think Kiesza will be #3 behind Nico & Vinz & Magic. Don't see how anything else could be higher.

Actually that sounds about right, OneRepublic will have fallen away quite a bit by then and Zhu and Cheryl probably won't be higher.

Impressive that alt-J are hanging about at No. 76 - get that slow burner!

Sadly, I think that sounds about right. mad.gif

I do think some people are underestimating it though, I think #5 or #6 will be too low.

Though saying that, 'Rude' and 'Am I Wrong?' are both great songs, so it's not as frustrating.

expecting maybe #4 at the highest for Kiesza. the pre-order is doing very well now, especially with no Capital FM support thus far!

as for the other two; Duke will have a very good chance of course (depends on how big Prayer In C ends up being though), can't really see My Head Is A Jungle even making the top 10 really

Could Keisza please not climb any further. The overplay of 'Hideaway' has killed this song for me as I find them pretty similar anyway. Such a shame really as 'Hideaway' started out so good, before getting grating. sad.gif

EDIT: The Saturdays 'What Are You Waiting For?' is still not back in the top 1500, despite being released on Sunday AND being used as Winston's eviction song from Big Brother? FUUUUCK sad.gif

It's great to see Kiesza looking to avoid the one-hit wonder status, but I can't see "Giant In My Heart" hitting #1, regardless of how well the pre-order is doing. With streaming sales now adding a good 10k to #1 contenders, Nico & Vinz and Magic should still sell pretty well next week. I'm going to predict #4.

As for the weeks afterwards, the Lilly Wood/David Guetta battle is interesting. Again, neither could hit the summit on account of the streaming giving other songs boosts. I'm loving both at the moment, but "Lovers on the Sun" tips it for me. Duke Dumont for the week after too!

Finally got around to listening to that new Saturdays song and it is awful. Completely generic club fodder. Such a shame to go from Disco Love (which is pop gold) to that. Not surprised it isn't taking off.

Come Over is edging closer to the top 40. Hoping it can at least manage to go top 40 before vanishing from the chart.

Is No Mediocre looking like it'll be a decent hit? I'm thinking it'll do a 'Get Like Me' at best, but no idea if the pre-order has been doing well or not.

I'd say the pre-order has been doing alright actually. Saying that, I have a feeling "Get Like Me" was a lot higher when it was up for pre-order. I'd like to see it reach T20, but with streaming now I reckon a low 30 placing is more realistic. Great to have Iggy on another chart hit, and T.I. too of course!

It's doing okay I suppose, but I remember Leah McFall's song was top 1500 on pre-orders for ages and it missed the top 40, so I'm not sure that No Mediocre will get there. sad.gif
