The recurrence of Mr Brightside in so many positions is amazing and hilarious.

This is an excellent list - thanks for compiling and updating it!!
I've been inspired by this, and as some in the thread have suggested, to compile a list of the songs with the most consecutive weeks at each position:
http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=213348

In doing so, I spotted a few additions for the list in this thread:
#41 (4 weeks): Judge Dread - Big Six
#46 (3 weeks): Andy Williams - Solitaire; Donny Osmond - Puppy Love
and several from earlier this year (e.g. 4 weeks at #11 for Meant To Be; 5 weeks at #14 for Jumanji) of which you're probably aware for the next update smile.gif

Great work, thanks again!

I've really enjoyed looking at the initial post and just wanted to add an update for position 24 as M-22 feat. Medina has now been at position 24 for the 5th time.

Lewis Capaldi - Someone You Loved has now set a new benchmark of 8 weeks at #3. I may have a go at updating the full list in a few weeks if fchd doesn't object (or beat me to it).

Few weeks, few months, whatever... this was harder to update than I imagined - I don't have my own database so I checked almost every chart run individually from the last two years and even then I may have missed something - but here are my updates to the list on the front page, from fchd's last update (4/1/18) up to this week (w/e 31/10/19):

Stay Flee Get Lizzy presents Fredo with Young T & Bugsey - Ay Caramba

Position : 57 - 4 weeks (Matched Record)
Benny Blanco featuring Halsey and Khalid - Eastside

Position : 59 - 5 weeks (Matched Record)
Ed Sheeran - Perfect

Position : 61 - 5 weeks (New Record)
Ed Sheeran - Perfect

Position : 63 - 3 weeks (Matched Record)
Julia Michaels - Issues

Position : 76 - 4 weeks (Matched Record)
Ed Sheeran - Shape Of You

Position : 77 - 3 weeks (Matched Record)
Ed Sheeran - Shape Of You
Gerry Cinnamon - Canter

-------------------------

Killers - Mr Brightside [warrants its own heading]
Position : 80 - 6 weeks (Extended Record)
Position : 81 - 6 weeks (Outright Record)
Position : 84 - 6 weeks (Extended Record)
Position : 87 - 7 weeks (Extended Record)
Position : 90 - 10 weeks (Extended Record)
Position : 92 - 13 weeks (Extended Record)
Position : 95 - 8 weeks (Extended Record)
Position : 96 - 8 weeks (Extended Record)
Position : 98 - 10 weeks (Extended Record)
Position : 99 - 9 weeks (Extended Record)
Position : 100 - 14 weeks (Extended Record)

-------------------------

Position : 41 - 4 weeks (Older 'Matched' Record) *
Judge Dread - Big Six *

Position : 76 - 4 weeks (Older 'Matched' Record) **
Frank Sinatra - My Way **

Position : 94 - 5 weeks (Older 'New' Record) **
Fatback Band - I Found Lovin' **

* According to the OCC website. However its position in the chart of 6/1/73 is disputed, see Most consecutive weeks at each position thread for details
** From charts prior to w/e 4/1/03 for which fchd excluded positions 76-100. I haven't checked conclusively for records here by any means, but I happened to notice these: My Way added to the myriad of records it holds or shares in Top 50 positions with 4 weeks at #76 in 1998, while I Found Lovin' racked up 5 weeks at #94 between 1986 and 1988 which, as a record, has so far withstood the battering Mr Brightside has given to most positions at this end of the chart.

-------------------------

Shotgun's new record of 4 weeks at #46 ends an almighty pile-up on 3 weeks (which temporarily included This Is Me) and leaves #63 and #77 as having the only sub 4-week records in the Top 100. Only 4 songs have now spent longer at any one chart position than Mr Brightside's 14 weeks at #100 - all of those were at #1 (the most recent being One Dance). Finally, an honourable mention to Billie Eilish - bad guy, which spent 6 weeks at #5 and came extremely close to matching Frank Chacksfield's ancient record of 7 weeks since, in one of its weeks at #6, it was outsold by Piece Of Your Heart by the margin of just 8 (eight) sales.

Updates to the list on the front page, for the 6 months from my previous post (w/e 31/10/19) up to this week (w/e 30/04/20). The modern-day record breaker strikes again - the only other two songs to spend 7 weeks at #4 both did so in the 1950s:

-------------------------

Position : 4 - 7 weeks (Matched Record)
Dua Lipa - Don't Start Now

Position : 10 - 4 weeks (Matched Record)
Lewis Capaldi - Someone You Loved

Position : 13 - 5 weeks (Matched Record)
Harry Styles - Adore You

Position : 14 - 6 weeks (New Record)
Tones & I - Dance Monkey

Position : 23 - 4 weeks (Matched Record)
Lewis Capaldi - Someone You Loved

Position : 41 - 4 weeks (Matched Record)
George Ezra - Shotgun

Position : 63 - 3 weeks (Matched Record)
Billie Eilish - bad guy

Position : 76 - 4 weeks (Matched Record)
AJ Tracey - Ladbroke Grove

-------------------------

Killers - Mr Brightside
Position : 97 - 6 weeks (Matched Record)
Position : 99 - 10 weeks (Extended Record)

-------------------------

Position : 57 - 4 weeks (Older 'Matched' Record) *
New Order - Blue Monday *

* combining the original 1983 release and 1995 remix

-------------------------

On one of the comments from before my Buzzjack time:
QUOTE(hotchoc26 @ Sep 15 2014, 05:33 PM) *
I wonder, does anyone know songs which have 'been' at the most positions in the top 10,40,75,100 etc.? It's hard to explain, for example, Frank Sinatra's My Way has spent weeks on a lot of the 40-50 range positions...

Also, I recommend adding lists for 'most weeks at peak positions' and 'most consecutive weeks at positions'. Great list! biggrin.gif

Well I've already done and posted the last two... and for the first I’ve now compiled such a set of lists, heading this way in quiz form in a couple of weeks magic.gif
