12th March 2023

It's back up on top for a second week for Dusty after some TV shows on the BBC over the weekend, re-igniting my love for her and my sincere belief that she is the greatest female vocalist of all time. Even over Aretha. Niall Horan meanwhile hits a new peak of 3 for him, with Heaven. Far From Saints go top 5, and Thomas Rhett gets his second biggest and second top 10, bringing Doris Day along for her first top 10 since 1987 when Move Over Darling topped my chart. At nearly 70 years old the sample is just as old as The Chordettes' Mr Sandman sample on the highest new entry from Meghan Trainor, at 53 with Mother.

Jessie Ware gets a top 10 finally after 11 previous charting tracks, Pearls being some fab disco retro vibes, Miley Cyrus has a new track off her new album debut at 63, Jaded, just ahead of The Weeknd's reactivated oldie Die For You, getting some Ariana Grande revamp action and charting for the first time. They've both topped my chart together in 2014 (Love Me Harder). Olly Murs gets some glam rock vibes on I Found Her, as the man singing over the original vibes pops back in prison. I give credit to producer/writer Mike Leander and The Glitter Band though, not that other bloke.

The UK has a new Eurovision song, and it's actually current-sounding! That hasn't happened since 1994's Love City Groove! Mae Muller has had 2 previous chart credits, so let's hope the hat-trick does well for her. I Wrote A Song at 71. Gorillaz get a second on the chart, Oil, and gives Stevie Nicks another credit for over 40 years of solo credits, or 47 years including Fleetwood Mac, who were her modest little combo prior to that. Chromeo is also back for a 3rd visit, with new track, Words With You.

Hello John! hi.gif

I'm still thinking the same of Niall's music. What's unfortunate is that I wanted him to succeed the most out of all of the one direction boys and I'd say he hasn't lived upto expectations at all.
It's good to see Jessie ware doing well here but I'm honestly so sick of this airy 70's sound now. I would like some O0's inspired music from her next.
A massive yes at that climb for raincatchers. It's great. I prefer it to our Eurovision entry this year but I don't think it would have been a better choice. It's not too dissimilar to Children of the universe and that really didn't do amazingly at ESC.
That remix of breaking the circle is very very good. I hadn't heard it until just now and infelt very let down by the chorus on the original but this remix really elevates the song for me.
Trustfall unfortunately peaking like you said. Hopefully it can rebound at some point but this is honestly one of my favourite ever p!nk songs!
Mother is fantastic. She's chosen a great sample and fully went with it. I hope it's a hit for.Meghan.
I wrote a song is very decent and I really think it suprise on the night!

Fantastic chart this week happy.gif

Hi there John!
Nice to see "Heaven" reaching the top 3, the big gains for "Like A Saviour", "Breaking The Circle", "Game Of Love" and my personal highlight, the big gain for "Like A River" (YES!) and the debuts for "Jaded", "Die For You", "I Found Her" and "Oil".
Great chart!

Hey James! smile.gif

Aww that's a shame you are Niall disappointed. I never had any expectations so it's all been a lovely surprise that Harry & he have kept going biggrin.gif

Jessie is very disco 70's/80's now - you might want to avoid Shakatak records then if they come up on TV or radio, I can see some similarities smile.gif

Glad you like Raincatchers and the remix of Breaking The Circle - opinion seems to be divided and Radio 2 are playing the original version, this one just seems to have a bit more oomph to me. Mother is indeed fab she's on a roll again!

I'm hoping Mae Muller grabs the young crowd with the song, it's got the sort of defiant-I-Will-Survive lyrics that appeals these days and sounds actually contemporary for the first time in nearly 30 years for a UK entry laugh.gif

Thanks for the comments! cool.gif

Hi Uhsting! smile.gif

Ah I do love a slab of cheese, especially if it's sampling one of my 50's loves. I also hope Mae does well, winning might be out of reach but it would be great to see her top 10 and a proper hit dance.gif

Hi AH! Hope all is good! smile.gif

Things a little less manic this week thanks and getting away to London for a break cheer.gif

Thanks for the big picks, and Birdy is totally Cloudbusting, I bet Kate is happy to see her inspiration spreading!

I agree about Mae, more of a grower I think, and I see it doing well - young people must vote for it, I suspect, it sounds very 2020's. Yes, I couldnt resist your Gorillaz tip, only heard it the twice so far though, so plenty of room for improvement on 73... laugh.gif

Big thanks as ever!
