3rd place: Adamski - Killer
UK chart run: 45-39-20-7-4-1-1-1-1-2-4-11-16-20-18-26-36-60 (18 weeks)
Just missing out on the final is Adamski with Killer. This was doing really well up until the last couple of rounds when the tide began to turn for it, I must admit that I'm surprised that it didn't make the final as I think it's aged pretty well and represents how 1990 could be quite forward facing in it's embrace of electronic music. Colm mentioned in the thread that it was secondly only to Enjoy The Silence for him for the entire year and I'm inclined to agree with him; both in his first place choice and also his praise for this track. Adamski produced some pretty great production for the track with those punchy synth lines and flashes of rave inspired brilliance but it's difficult to argue against it being Seal who was the real star of the track. He doesn't get a credit officially but the public sat up and paid attention to him and this paved the way for him to go on to have a pretty successful career, his debut album being a Trevor Horn produced affair that built on the winning approach of Killer and stands up pretty well today - before of course delving more into acoustic and soulful music as the 90s progressed. Adamski had one other top 10 hit after this, the follow up The Space Jungle but unfortunately he slipped back into obscurity after that.
So we're left with just two tracks now so it's time to vote for your WINNER of the year... Dub Be Good To Me has defied the odds to make it, after being close to being eliminated in some of the earlier rounds - but can it defeat Madonna and her iconic single Vogue? Time to find out!
I'm voting for Vogue to win. I know it's very typical Buzzjack etc but the whole package is just too iconic not to!
A fantastic final! Dub just takes it, though Vogue is an utter classic.
Had to vote for Beats International just to go for the underdog. Also think Vogue was similar to Madges singles from 1989 rehashed!
Vogue is timeless
Beats International.
Beats International to win, Vogue is iconic, but this is still really timeless and I'm glad it's managed to survive so long after looking like it was going a few rounds ago!
Vogue.
Beats International to win! Looks like that could actually be a possibility
It's already an awful result with Dub be good to me making the finakl, Dub Be Good be winning would be an awful result
Vogue is nothing like Madonna had done before, was a total re-invention
Killer should have won this :/
I'm not huge on either of the finalists but I do enjoy both. Voting for Vogue to win as it is one of my fave Madonna songs.
Gone for Beats International!
Killer should have won, still sounds fresh, exciting and relevant, Beats International sounds like a period piece of shuffling slowed-down Fat Boy Slim funk cover they knocked off during a lunch break for an album of Jam & Lewis tribute covers. Not bitter at all....
Dub Be Good To Me
I only recently started listening to Madonna's discography a bit more but Vogue hasn't grown on me
*happens to click on this thread* Amazing to see 'Dub Be Good To Me' in the final! My vote for sure
Dub Be Good To Me!!!
I look forward to the 1991 edition.
I thought vogue would walk this.
'Vogue' still well behind, I am shocked!
The right song is winning!!
To be honest after giving it a listen just now I think that would be a great song winning. I think I was basing it on the rest of the songs and didn't think it stood out but it does lol. 'Vogue' I must say is good but not in my top 20 of hers!
Bring on 1991.
...and we're closed!
