2020 is almost over (thankfully in some cases) and it's time to countdown my favourite tracks of 2020. Last year however there wasn't one due to lack of enough music to make a top 50 or 100 but this year I had at least 160 ish songs noted down. Majority of those being filled out with BJSC songs but will one of my entries grab my number 1 this year or a chart smash find out here very soon.
As for what would have been my top hits of last year these would be amongst them... Beverly - I Need Your Love Ollie Wride - Back To Life Covenant would be immune as it's from 2000 and I have a rule that doesn't include really old songs no matter how recently I discovered them. Nobuo Uematsu - Toberu Mono (Thaehan remix) Billie Eilish - Bad Guy Lewis Capaldi - Someone You Loved (before I got tired of hearing it) Taylor Swift - Lover Taylor Swift Ft Brandon Urie - ME! Keino - Spirit In The Sky Jax Jones & Martin Solveig Ft Madison Beer - All Day And Night This post has been edited by Rob S: 17th February 2021, 06:27 PM |

Inside my top 100 we have more than one appearance from..
Little Mix Dua Lipa Taylor Swift Lady GaGa The Weeknd Miley Cyrus Ava Max Billie Eilish Night Club Zara Larrson Ella Henderson I think that's all. Probably someone I've forgotten without looking. I've also included a certain rule which mainly applies to BJSC entries and that is.... No really old songs from like the 70's up to 2015. There is one song from 2015 and about 4/5 from 2016 but all of these are BJSC entries that were sent this year and had a major impact on me so this will be why I've implemented this rule but it's not even 15% of the chart as that will be represented by 2019 & 2020 music respectively. Only fair really! |

Glad this year has been a better year in music for you! Looking forward to seeing which songs come up here. Yeah whilst not being a huge improvement, this year has at least had more great chart hits than last year (and still too MUCH grime) Little Mix, Taylor and Lady Gaga *.* -- I'm going to be sorting out my top 100 this weekend and setting the cut off point for songs to be today. Good thing too cause Taylor has dropped new music but whether any of the new songs make my top 100 this late is anyone's guess (still only listened to 3 songs off Evermore so far lol) |

Brooke 'Attention'
Ruelle 'Good Day For Dreaming' Regard Ft RAYE - Secrets Millie Turner 'Underwater' Hyphen Hyphen - Like Boys Harry Styles - Golden - the first Harry song I've really gotten into, a fab piece! DubDogz & Bhaskar - Infinity (DubDogz & Bhaskar Edit) Shaylen - Roll The Dice Kygo, Zara Larrson and Tyga - Like It Is - I didn't expect to like this as much as I do, it's very generic dance-pop but done in a brilliant way Marie Davidson & L'œil Nu 'Renegade Breakdown' Jack Wins - Animals (Extended Mix) (feat. Caitlyn Scarlett) Ella Lee - Zot Ani Stefanie Heinzmann - Shadows Tim Bendzko - Hoch Roosevelt - Sign - One of my BJSC entries I was second-guessing entering it by the time it happened so really glad it did so well TTRRUUCES - The Disco Ashe - Moral Of The Story SAINT JHN - Roses Isac Elliot - Weekend MAJESTICA - Ghost Of Christmas Past Maggie Lindemann - Scissorhands Ariana and The Rose - True Love Gregory Dillon - Sad Magic SOLON - Sideways - and another of mine! Very CamelPhat-esque. CHUNG HA & R3HAB - Dream Of You Moodshift - What About My Love 220 Kid Ft Gracey - Don't Need Love |

100-91
100. Jai Wolf Ft Chelsea Jade - Lost 99. Miley Cyrus - Angels Like You 98. Kylie Minogue - Say Something 97. Doja Cat - Say So 96. BRONSON Ft lau.ra – HEART ATTACK 95. Ella Henderson - Take Care Of You 94. Nena - Litch 93. Taylor Swift - the last great dynasty 92. Aly & Fila Ft Plumb - 'Somebody Loves You' 91. NIMMO - Do I Have To Learn It? So here begin with one of the latest offerings out of BJSC, 'Lost' by Jai Wolf is a synthy pop song released in 2018 and was entered by a member most would be surprised by.. King Rollo when giving my first listen it immediately stood out and ultimately provided Rolloland with their biggest hit to date, coming 4th just last week. The song has also done well to just about make my top 100 too considering said first listen was this month but I had heard it more than a couple of times, typically giving semi's and finals more than 1 listen through each. Following next is the first of 4 appearances from former child star Miley Cyrus with her lovely ballad 'Angels Like You', a clear standout off her latest album Plastic Hearts which came out a month ago. Music goddess Kylie made a return this year and the first single in two years came in the form of 'Say Something', admittedly this didn't grab me on first listen but it did continue to grow. I wouldn't say it's up there with her best lead singles though but it's made a decent impression enough to warrant a placing here although it probably wouldn't have done weeks later because of more BJSC 130 entries. Newcomer Doja Cat is next at 97 with 'Say So', a huge breakthrough hit from earlier this year and at 96 we have the second of the BJSC entries. Thelonia's very interesting dance track 'HEART ATTACK' by Bronson and Lau.ra.. this was entered after Lewis was contemplating taking a break from BJSC mid year after a bit of bad luck qualifying. It's a tune. 'Take Care Of Your' by Ella Henderson appears at 95. Simple, solid pop song which sadly didn't make the official top 40 but did have a nice little run in the top 75 before ACR struck. Ella still has one more song to appear. Up at number 94 we have a 80's star, where's Popchartfreak when you need him.. it's NENA. You know off 99 Red Balloons fame. Well for some reason earlier this year I was searching what she was up too and came across this song she launched her return with 'Litch' which is German for Light. The song takes on the synthy sound that artists like The Weeknd have been churning out, however it's a bit more minimalistic than that. Fun fact this was released to coincide with Nena's 60th birthday which is March 24th. Oh and this was also a potential of mine for BJSC earlier in the year too but I've grown off it a little since but it is still decent enough. From her lockdown folk album Folklore we see the first Taylor Swift appearance in the top 100 with 'the last great dynasty'. Back to BJSC again at 92 with one of Dan's entries, 'Somebody Loves You' by Aly and Fila who team up with Plumb to create this gorgeous trance track. The song gave Dan his first and only top 10 in BJSC this year. At 91 we have Nimmo with 'Do I Have To Learn It' another BJSC entry.. this time entered by Haus (D'yermak'er). #94 This post has been edited by Rob S Claus: 22nd December 2020, 09:05 PM |

The former was a grower more than anything. It's very simple indie synth but works it's charm. This type of sound and that of 'Cristina' from a couple of years ago are my favourite of yours too 'Golden' was a grower but it's good. Thanks Pete, will comment on your chart soon. 90-81
90. Ariana Grande - positions 89. Taylor Swift - champagne problems 88. Taylor Swift - august 87. Daði Freyr - Think About Things 86. Amy Peters - Salt 85. Taylor Swift - willow 84. BANNERS - Someone To You 83. Dua Lipa - Break My Heart 82. Be Charlotte - Set Somebody Free 81. Taylor Swift - gold rush Ariana Grande bounced back into the charts with a brand new album and from it the #1 hit 'positions' sit at number 90 here. It's a decent song but I wouldn't say it's one of her very best for me and I believe it stayed at #1 a little bit too long for my liking. Several more single and album tracks off both Taylor's folklore and evermore (which dropped two weeks ago) fill many spots here with 'champagne problems' #89, 'august' #88, lead single off evermore.. 'willow' #85 and 'gold rush' #81 respectively. Amongst the Taylor dominance we have Eurovison entry 'Think About Things' by Iceland born Daði Freyr who scored a top 40 hit which is nowadays seen as a rarity since streaming doesn't boost Eurovision songs as well but this one took advantage of that as one that Spotify liked and even put on Hot Hits so I guess he can thank them for getting a low hit here, oh yes and he has the same exact birthday as me as well how very interesting. not sure many people share the exact same year, month, date as someone famous. Not that I can think of anyway. A song which got re-released and still hasn't done much was 'Someone To You' by indie band BANNERS is 84th, the song is actually 3 years old and was entered into BJSC back then too. Speaking of BJSC again now we have the first of our (Summericia) entries. The pop tune that is 'Salt' by American star Amy Peters... weirdly this just missed out on qualifying for us in May by 1 point!! along with one of our other entries which is still to come. 'Salt' finished top 5 in Popjustice last year so it was odd how it did worse on Buzzjack but hey it is up for redemption in the TBO Qualifiers contest so vote that or my other song which is still to come later (the two DNQ's I mean). Dua Lipa had an absolute stormer of a year and the first appearance in my 100 comes from 'Break My Heart' but all of her singles have been anthems so no shade at this being the lowest of her songs to appear. Finally at #82 we have another potential of mine for BJSC, Be Charlotte' with 'Set Somebody Free', a solid pop bop with a chorus a little alike that of one of Avicii's sounding entries. Well that's what I pointed it to but no one else will think that at all lol. |

80-71
80. Overcoats - Fire & Fury 79. Grum - Afterglow (feat. Natalie Shay) 78. Agnes - Fingers Crossed 77. Tate Mcrae - you broke me first 76. Little Mix - Break Up Song 75. Dua Lipa - Levitating/ Dua Lipa Ft DaBaby - Levitating 74. Will Ferrell and My Marianne ~ Husavik 73. Taylor Swift - betty 72. Nora En Pure - Wetlands 71. Mishcatt - Goofy Time to start the next section and first here we have two more BJSC entries back to back, Harmonica's 'Fire & Fury' and Danaeviia's Grum with Afterglow. Both of these are top notch entries and I awarded them both a good chunk of votes in their respective contests. Making my EOY countdown for the first time after topping it in 2009 with 'Release Me' is Agnes with 'Finger Crossed', not gonna lie this didn't fully connect with me on first listen however it was one of those millions of songs that you like after hearing it more and thus helps it to find a spot on my countdown. Canada's answer to Billie Eilish in Tate Mcrae is up next with 'you broke me first'.. just one of the many songs to get boosted from TikTok exposure this year and has driven buzzjack up the wall with their disdain for it. Surprisingly I liked it though AND still haven't got tired or gone off it which I definitely thought would happen lol. Little Mix scored a top 10 hit in the UK charts with 'Break Up Song' earlier in the year and the song winds up at 76 here whilst the second Dua song from Future Nostalgia 'Levitating' falls out at 75. From Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga we have Will Ferrell and Swedish singer Molly Sandén who goes by the stage name for the track My Marrianne with the lovely 'Húsavík'. The film featured a host of famous stars in it including Pierce Brosnan, Dan Stevens (The Beast in the 2017 remake of The Beauty & The Beast), Demi Lovato among others and was released later than normal because of COVID and was originally supposed to coincide with the Eurovision contest itself. folklore provides another album track to appear in my countdown for Taylor Swift, 'betty' a clear highlight for me, it's also quite late to the cutoff point of this may I add as I got a bit lacky with listening to the album for some reason. I received the album as a Christmas present so yay for that too. Current BJSC winner the absolutely beautiful 'Wetland' by Nora En Pure is next at 72. Quite an accomplishment as songs I've only heard for a few weeks hardly make my top 100. This was a deserved winner and has been touted as one of the best winner songs this year or in ages by some and I can't really argue with that. Lastly we round up with another BJSC entry 'Goofy' by Mishcatt. Mishcatt had two songs in my potentials list back in 2016 and although I never sent them, it was quite surprising that it took 4 years for anyone to send something by her as they are poppy enough but then again her music quality has increased since then and well this came top 20 in BJSC in September so that's a smash. Some great BJSC entries here - Wetlands, Fire & Fury, Do I Have To Learn it and of course Someone To You are all favourites.
Great to see Think About Things here also - was delighted to see it go Top 40 officially, such a quirky little track which I would have loved to see at Eurovision Interesting he has the same birthday as you, I'm trying to think and I don't think I share a birthday with anyone famous yet (just looked at FamousBirthdays and there's no-one I've vaguely heard of so there we go) |

Oh my! What a treat to see Overcoats in your EOY Fire & Fury was such an uplifting discovery back when we were still in the early scary part of the pandemic. Wetlands and Goofy were lovely entries too!

Shame it never got the chance to shine at Eurovision sadly but obviously things can't be helped really. I know I wouldn't expect many to share an exact birthday so discovering this info was quite cool. Thanks Pete! Oh my! What a treat to see Overcoats in your EOY Fire & Fury was such an uplifting discovery back when we were still in the early scary part of the pandemic. Wetlands and Goofy were lovely entries too! It was such a good discovery and this was especially in one of the best contests of 2020 for BJSC imo. Stood out a lot. Yeah those two are fab as well! Thanks Jordan! Next section will be up either tommorow or Sunday! |
