Arriving somewhat fashionably late, it's time for me to attempt a top 200 of the year countdown again after I stalled last year due to being unable to commit to doing commentary for every song. I'll be presenting it in a more concise format this time to give myself a better chance of actually finishing it. x

I didn't really feel like making a fully curated and 'accurate' list this time like I did last year so I've just had the order of the songs determined for me by the science of a points system instead - I think it's turned out looking pretty accurate for the most part but I'll mention along the way if there are any songs that feel notably too high or too low (particularly in reference to other songs by the same artist). The vast majority of songs have <10 weeks in my personal charts anyway so nearly everything bar releases in late November/December have their full chart runs accounted for here.

I borrowed (a slightly modified version of) the formula Dan used for the UK charts 2020 points-based EOY, normalising it so that a week at #1 is worth 100,000 'sales' (the maths works out to a week at #2 being worth ~83,600, a week at #3 worth ~73,000 and descending down to a week at #40 being worth ~1,600). Why this? I don't know, it's a little arbitrary, but I tested what the list looked like just using a simple '40 points for #1, 39 for #2' etc. system as well and I like the look of the more sophisticated version more. It's also satisfyingly worked out to have a total sales distribution that looks like it could be an actual normal UK chart EOY - there's one song that's over 1 million 'sales' (and indeed over 1.2 million so consider it 2x platinum in Persephonia), 6 songs over 600k, 22 over 400k, 99 over 200k and 217 over 100k. So let's roll with that. I rounded the 'sales' of each song to the nearest hundred but they are ranked down to the decimal.

With that waffle out of the way, here's my full top 200 of 2019, partly recap but mostly being revealed for the first time since I never got around to posting anything above #141. Maybe at some point I'll go back and run the points system calculation on my 2019 charts as well to have a comparable list (and some more 'sales' totals) to the one I'll be posting this year.

Will get into the top 200 proper tomorrow but I'll actually make this a top 217 countdown since that's the 100,000 'sales' cutoff. Here are the songs just missing out:

201 107,800 (#7, 3 weeks) The Killers - Caution
202 107,400 (#6, 3 weeks) Taylor Swift - epiphany
203 107,100 (#8, 3 weeks) Juice WRLD - Conversations
204 106,300 (#10, 3 weeks) Robin Schulz and Wes - Alane (Don Diablo Remix)
205 106,200 (#10, 3 weeks) No Rome - 1:45AM (feat. Bearface)
206 106,000 (#12, 3 weeks) Mall Grab - Switchblade
207 104,700 (#10, 3 weeks) Taylor Swift - exile (feat. Bon Iver)
208 104,300 (#6, 3 weeks) Hot Chip - Straight To The Morning (feat. Jarvis Cocker)
209 103,400 (#9, 4 weeks) Another Sky - All Ends
210 103,200 (#10, 3 weeks) Disclosure and Kelis - Watch Your Step
211 103,000 (#11, 3 weeks) Abra Cadabra - On Deck (Remix) (feat. RV, Kush, Double Lz, Bandokay, Lowkey and Dezzie)
212 102,700 (#16, 4 weeks) Ricky Eat Acid - playing god with my hands on fire
213 102,700 (#17, 4 weeks) Kllo - Somehow
214 101,100 (#6, 3 weeks) Hayley Williams - Leave It Alone
215 100,700 (#8, 3 weeks) Negative Gemini - Rollercoaster
216 100,000 (#10, 3 weeks) Bonobo and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs - 6000 Ft.
217 100,000 (#7, 3 weeks) Jorja Smith - Rose Rouge

Some of these artists do have at least one song in the top 200 as well - we'll be seeing quite a few from Disclosure, Juice WRLD and Taylor Swift in particular - but it's a bit of a shame that The Killers have fallen just short of that arbitrary mark with their highest song, I really enjoyed their album this year (a return to form after starting to lose interest in them a little) but none of its songs had huge longevity in my chart. It would be in the top 200 if I had decided to exclude a couple of straggling 2019 hits that made it in with the tail end of their chart runs in January but I decided it's more accurate to leave them in.

Other artists who won't have any further songs appearing are:

- Robin Schulz/Wes/Don Diablo (Robin is lucky to have got a hit to his name with this at all as I didn't like his production on the original version of the song, Don Diablo essentially entirely redid it with his remix)
- No Rome (although Bearface will have multiple appearances as part of BROCKHAMPTON)
- Bon Iver (it was mostly an off year for them after all, their only other chart appearance being a single week at #40 for 'PDLIF')
- Hot Chip/Jarvis Cocker (this song didn't really stick with me near as much as I originally thought it would, still a pretty strong lead single but it's no 'Hungry Child')
- Kelis (plenty of Disclosure though as mentioned earlier)
- everyone involved with the 'On Deck' remix (Bandokay and Double Lz collectively as OFB do have another song not far off the above list, their feature on iLL BLU's 'Magic' at #223)
- Ricky Eat Acid (his one hit is one that I was hoping would make the main list here, it's a really manic (in the best way possible) and enthralling instrumental, definitely my recommendation from this lot of songs that people probably don't know but should check out, particularly if you like my more out-there BJSC/Unknown Pleasures electronic entries x)
- Kllo (another one I'll highly recommend and this time a little more conventional/pop friendly, a really gorgeous emotive synthpop track)
- Negative Gemini (one of my BJSC entries which suffered a bit from not being a new song to me any more by the time I sent it - BROCKHAMPTON's 'WEIGHT' is also falling short of the top 200 for the same reason despite actually being at least my 2nd favourite song I sent during the year, but my other eight BJSC entries of the year as well as one spinoff entry will all be appearing)
- Jorja Smith (another one that feels like it should have made the list proper)

I'm sure this is going to be an adventure of a thread tongue.gif Nice to see exile make it at least into your commiserations, my favourite song to go Top 10 this year. Giving the Don Diablo remix of Alane a listen now - I can't say I prefer it to the Robin Schulz version although I did think Robin could have done more with it himself!

Hi there Bré!
My favourites from your missing out section are: "Caution", "Alane", "Exile" and "Watch Your Step" (The former 2 will have a high place in my Year-End list).
Good so far!

Thanks for the bump, reminded me to actually comment on this!

From the 17 that missed out on the top 200 (that I've heard), exile is of course my favourite! Easily the highlight from the two Taylor albums in 2020 for me. Caution and Alane (Don Diablo Remix) are great too.

I'm also very surprised to see some rare On Deck appreciation, even more interestingly the OFB remix - it's pretty good but also quite different to the original which I'm more familiar with, swapping the start of the first verse with the chorus! The production on it is still the same at least which is great, I found that and the delivery on both versions much better than most of the other drill hits we had over the past year or so.

Well I can't stall 60 songs in if I never even begin it...

laugh.gif I should probably get around to finally doing this after how much time it took me to actually put the list together.
