Dexton's Top 40 (14/08/2018) (Week 66)
Howdy Welcome back to the actual commentary this week, which may or may not continue next week. Rising up to the top spot this week is Benny Blanco's Eastside featuring Khalid & Halsey (3-1) which has given Khalid his second #1 hit. His first #1 was on Marshmello's Silence late last year, who would later go on to gain his second #1 with Friends in February this year, but more interesting is the fact that both of Khalid's #1s have been as features - something which no other artist has managed on my chart. Hilltop Hoods' Clark Griswold featuring Adrian Eagle (1-2) and Drake's In My Feelings (2-3) complete the reshuffled Top 3. Nicki Minaj accounts for 2 of this weeks 5 new entries: Barbie Dreams (#7) and Majesty featuring Eminem & Labrinth (#17). Both of these songs (and probable future singles) come from Nicki's fourth studio album, Queen, which was surpassed both Drake and Panic! in my album chart and debuted at #1 (and yes, that is with the album chart being compiled by playcount so an impressive feat considering she's only had 4 days)! I do wish the fake romance between Nicki & Eminem had been fleshed out for longer though, could've been some decent promo Other new entries include Why Don't We's debut chart entry Talk (#33), Emma Blackery's Take Me Out (#38), and Zayn's Too Much featuring Timbaland (#40). Emma Blackery follows on from her Top 10 hit Agenda just weeks from the release of her debut album, and Zayn is returning to the chart for the first time since his Top 3 single Dusk Til Dawn featuring Sia. Timbaland is also a surprise appearance here who I think has only appeared on my chart before with a production credit on Justin Timberlake's Filthy (#1). If this were 2008 then he'd probably have credit to 2 dozen other hits on my chart but alas his relevance has long since passed :') A$AP Rocky will surely be praising the lord along with Skepta who have both just grabbed their first Top 20 hits, Praise The Lord (Da Shine) (32-18). KYLE's Playinwitme featuring Kehlani has finished playing around the Top 20 and finally gives Kehlani her second Top 20 hit, after Calvin Harris' Faking It featuring Kehlani & Lil Yachty made it to #3 after the release of Calvin's Funk Wav Bounces Vol.1. Calvin is rumoured to have a single with Ina Wroldsen on the horizon - will it give him his second #1 hit of the year? I don't normally comment on songs leaving the chart but this week marks the departure of George Ezra's Shotgun. Shotgun made chart history as the longest-running song to have ever been here, spending a grand total of 20 weeks on the chart! Helped immensely by being the most instant album track from George's album and then being pushed as a single just as it was on the brink of falling out of the chart. Shotgun soon propelled back up the chart and gave George his second #1 here! Before Shotgun came Paradise, which spent a whopping 4 weeks at #1 and to date is one of only 3 songs to have spent over 3 weeks at the top (with Rita Ora's Anywhere and Justin Timberlake's Filthy). George Ezra's reign of 24 consecutive weeks on the chart ends this week, but he is still Top 5 in the albums chart! Speaking of... Nicki Minaj's Queen debuts at the top against all odds in an otherwise uneventful week all around. Jon Bellion's The Human Condition spends a second week at #10 - a boring chart event, yes, but just you wait until the king releases his new single... Thanks for coming, and happy Buzzrate Day Make sure to stay out of the drama kids Top 40 Songs (#66) 01 03 Benny Blanco Eastside (feat. Eastside up to number one already, interesting! Glad In My Feelings isn't spending a fifth consecutive week at number two, but a switch to number three was a potentially unexpected twist!
Great to see Lucid Dreams finally breaking into the top ten in your chart, let's hope it does the same in the UK this week! Climbs for Imagine Dragons, A$AP Rocky, Alan Walker and Loud Luxury are good to see as well. |

Hello Dexton!
Great to see "Eastside" at #1, never thought it would work, but it did, it's a great song! I also like the big gain for "1999 WILDFIRE", probably my favourite of the 3 songs they've released recently. And nice big gains for both "Praise The Lord (Da Shine)" and "Darkside", the latter of which is charting high in my chart! Finally the debut of "Too Much" is great too, shame it sold poorly. Great chart as always! |

Climbs for Imagine Dragons, A$AP Rocky, Alan Walker and Loud Luxury are good to see as well. Eastside might not spend much longer on the top though - Marshmello, Calvin Harris, or Ariana Grande are eyeing up a high debut Lucid Dreams has been a very slow burner for me Thanks for commenting! Great chart as always! Hey sergej! Eastside is kind of what I'd imagine an acoustic Khalid version of The Chainsmokers' Closer to be Wildfire is way better than Truman or Diana I think, I was thinking they might be a great new discovery for me but so far Wildfire is spelling one hit wonder Thanks for commenting! I'm so hyped for Ariana's album... who knows how my chart will look next week Only You has been & gone really hasn't it Looking forward to Little Mix's comeback though even if it really hasn't been that long since they were last here I'm not sure if I could really point out a favourite 5SOS song tbh, they seem to have a lot of "good" songs but nothing really stands out beyond that, this grew on me a lot but I'm over it now probably due to overexposure consider it's domination over here Thanks for commenting! |

Hi Dexton, Great no 1 !! Best new entries: Wy Don΄t We and Zayn Malik ! Did Justin Timberlake΄s Soulmate do anything in your chart ? Great chart as Always Hi Sven! SoulMate entered, peaked, and then swiftly left the chart at #25 I havent gone back to it much either, its not bad but it feels like a MOTW album track thats inferior to most other MOTW album tracks. Montana and Morning Light are the actually album tracks I still listen to a bit Thanks for commenting! |
