Not totally sure this is the right forum for this but his music could definitely fall under R&B and he's always been at least adjacent to hip-hop so I'll put it here ~
Joji (YouTube grossout icon Filthy Frank turned serious lofi/R&B musician) is releasing his third album 'Nectar' in July, really excited for this. He's a very rare example of a YouTuber turned musician who actually makes good music, 'SLOW DANCING IN THE DARK' off his last album was great and the three singles so far from the new album have all been equally great (all made the top 5 in my personal chart): (the guitar solo on the back end of this ) The first two songs have been around for a while without anyone starting a thread for them so just lumped them together with the new single into one thread for the album which was only just announced the other week ~ 'Gimme Love' is quite a journey of a song, goes from a simple catchy ditty with some cool bouncy production in the first half to something much more artsy and beautiful in the second half. |

Quickly reviving my thread that no one posted in now this album is out x (and came tantalisingly close to being a UK top 5 album! At least it got top 3 in the US *.*)
Found this album to be a bit of a mixed bag with quite a few unneeded filler tracks (not unexpected with it being 18 songs long), the first 3 singles are easily the 3 best songs on there but still a good handful of solid tunes elsewhere on the tracklist, particularly liking '777' plus 'Your Man', 'Pretty Boy', 'Reanimator' (this one is getting a pretty negative reaction and I'm not sure why, it's definitely one of the most adventurous songs on the album) and 'MODUS'. Some of the songs that I thought sounded like filler seem to be fan favourites though so my opinions here may be a bit out of step (particularly 'Like You Do' which was one of my least favourites but I seem to be alone in that). He's also dropped a bunch more videos since I started the thread ~ |

'Your Man' is the best thing Filthy Fra-, I mean Joji has done.
Sounds like a big hit to my ears. This post has been edited by All★bySmashMouth: 6th October 2020, 09:41 PM |
