Ten UK Top 40 singles missed the tracking list for Step Back in Time: The Definitive Collection. Which song is your favourite?

Posted by: slowdown73 1st June 2019, 02:37 PM

Into the blue!

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 1st June 2019, 02:48 PM

Giving you up followed by chocolate and some kind of bliss

Posted by: Dannyboy 1st June 2019, 03:16 PM

I went for If You Were With Me Now because it never gets added to her greater hits but it’s a tie with Finer Feelings

Posted by: ___∆___ 1st June 2019, 03:18 PM

So many missed bops there sad.gif Will Be voting for ‘Giving You Up’ although there are none that I dislike tbh.

Also does anyone know why Kylie seems to hate IYWWMN so much? She never performs it, mentions it and now doesn’t want it as part of her GH laugh.gif It was a bit of a flop outside of the UK and Ireland but I love it for what it is. It’s the highest charting hit that she has missed off.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 1st June 2019, 05:20 PM

I'd love to know why she doesnt seem to like it either but it's a song that she doesnt associate herself with anymore or hasnt done so for years, I'd love to see her perform it even with someone else. Even on the anti tour it didnt get a look in.

This and all the other missed Deconstruction singles. She needs to make it up to us by releasing all the demos and lost tracks from the IP recording sessions.

Would be great to get but cant see it happening. As a massive Breathe fan I'm glad it made the cut.Celebration should of been dropped in favour of most of the songs on this poll.

Posted by: pippa 3rd June 2019, 02:56 PM

Chocolate, beautiful song that is often overlooked.
I agree that any of these songs would be a better selection than Celebration.
Celebration is a wonderful tour song but not studio.
The songs are also better than NYC but a new song was needed to make the release a little more appealing to the fans who already own everything listed on the album.

Posted by: Mack. 3rd June 2019, 02:58 PM

Would be Did It Again for me.

Posted by: Jade 3rd June 2019, 03:05 PM

'Chocolate' for sure! Every single from that campaign was lush.

Posted by: Michael Andrew 3rd June 2019, 03:09 PM

'Into The Blue' because it's glorious and it would fit well with the rest of the compilation.

I can understand why some the Deconstruction singles were omitted, much as I love most of them. They might confuse the new listeners she'll pick up after Glastonbury.

I also feel that ITB represents the KMO era in the most positive light. And an un-broken career like Kylie's deserves to be showcased as such.

Into The Blue would have made a good representation of what was a disappointing time and would fit into the collection.
That said, i would think it was too much paperwork to get sorted for the inclusion of one song that Kylie herself seems to have moved on from.

Yes. I reckon that must be the reason. Roc Nation were hardly Kylie's greatest champions, even while she was with them.

'Into the Blue' is my favourite and I'd consider it the biggest omission from an impartial perspective. It's her best peaking single since the 2012 Best Of and her only Top 20 hit since the last definitive collection, Ultimate Kylie, not to have been included. I also don't think it's fair to leave the Kiss Me Once era totally unrepresented when this is meant to be a look back on her full career. I also get the impression from recent interviews that Kylie has this song in mind when she has addressed the issue of some songs being missing.

I think Let's Get to It and Impossible Princess could have had more than one single represent the era too: 'Finer Feelings' and 'Did It Again' both feel like worthy inclusions, with one being a fan favourite and the other having such a strong video (probably the most memorable part of the Impossible Princess era for many).

I can deal with the others being left off even though I'd still welcome most of them being part of the album. 'Giving You Up' and 'Chocolate' were both Top 10 hits and have their fair share of fans, but I feel like their inclusion would mean 'Your Disco Needs You' and 'The One' would be squeezed out and I think they're much bigger songs in Kylie's discography, regardless of chart performance. 'If You Were With Me Now' may have been a Top 5 but it's probably the most forgotten hit of Kylie's career. That #4 peak means nothing.

My ranking, although a great deal of those songs rate very closely and could change on any given day:

Into the Blue
Giving You Up
Better Than Today
Word is Out
Did It Again
Some Kind of Bliss
Chocolate
Finer Feelings
Where is the Feeling?
If You Were With Me Now

Without question, Into The Blue. A gorgeous track. I hope it was omitted for ‘legal reasons’ and not because they think songs such as Please Stay are more appealing.

I largely disagree about If You Were With Me Now. Its value is just ignored.
50% of the singles from this album failed to make the Top 10 as did the album itself and this managed Top 5 which was important at that time, if not now.

If were with me now did well so I dont why kylie ignores it but there is likely some bad association with the song that we dont know about. The song gets no airing at all from kylie or even in any of the montages that she does or is associated with so obviously something must have went on.

Posted by: pippa 4th June 2019, 01:36 PM

It would make sense if there was something bad associated with the song for Kylie to ignore it.
Over her many tours, the anti tour and tv shows many of her songs have got a look in even if for just 10 seconds in a medley but this has got nothing.
Kids on the other hand is overused.

Some Kind Of Bliss, which is actually in my all-time Kylie top five, so underrated sad.gif

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 5th June 2019, 12:29 PM

I love some kind of bliss aswell and think it gets a hard time, not as good as breathe but miles ahead of it did it again.

Posted by: pippa 5th June 2019, 01:43 PM

Some Kind Of Bliss for many is remembered as the first Kylie song to miss out on achieving a Top 20 position.
As a result, i think some may have a slight resentment towards it.
I do really like the song, not her best single by a long mile but very far from her worst too.

Posted by: Medellíam 5th June 2019, 01:53 PM

Kylie and her team probably should have stuck to their guns and gone with either 'Too Far' or 'Limbo' as lead single to Impossible Princess, like originally planned, but I can see the logic of going with 'Some Kind of Bliss'. They probably saw it as a 'safer' option as it's one of the more commercial and accessible tracks on the album. I don't know how much better 'Too Far' or 'Limbo' would have performed as they're pretty radical changes from what we've heard from Kylie before and that could have worked in either favour - maybe they'd have surprised like 'Confide in Me' did or maybe they'd have performed even worse. Either way, they would have represented the album better and would probably be judged better with hindsight because of that.

If they wanted something accessible, 'Did It Again' would have been a great choice if it still had that video.

Posted by: pippa 5th June 2019, 02:05 PM

I think Limbo may have been the best song to lead the album as it had an edgy dance sound to it and the performances would have been energetic.
Many felt Kylie looked uncomfortable performing Some Kind Of Bliss and the sound didn't match Kylie.
I did not feel that myself but the point was understandable.
Looking back the singles that may have in someway helped the album do better could be:

Limbo
Too Far
Breathe
Dreams/Did It Again

Did it Again remains my least liked of the singles but it had the commercial sound and the video was great.

Posted by: Medellíam 5th June 2019, 06:52 PM

Kylie was making a name for herself in clubs during the 90s and 'Limbo' would have tapped into that really well.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 6th June 2019, 02:06 AM

I agree about limbo, prob not a huge hit but had the most potential. That's not to take away from some kind of bliss as I've always been a big fan of it. I dont need anyone I love and I think that was due to be the 4th single as far as I know.

Posted by: pippa 6th June 2019, 01:37 PM

I Dont Need Anyone was sent to radio but i am unsure if it was outlined as an official potential 4th single that got cancelled.

Posted by: gavindeejay 11th June 2019, 03:19 PM

I'm going to go for 'Into The Blue'..

Posted by: pippa 11th June 2019, 03:35 PM

I would like to see Better Than Today with a vote but with it only a single vote poll i couldn't vote for it.
That said, it is a song i understand why it was left off as its another single Kylie has completely moved away from in her performances.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 12th June 2019, 09:50 AM

Poor better than today, its gets very little love!! But I do like it but I think most feel it should have been an album only song.

Posted by: pippa 12th June 2019, 01:59 PM

As we have discussed previously, others may have appreciated the song more if it remained as an album track.
