Capitol confirmed the single choice to Billboard at last night's (Sept. 13) performance by Perry's labelmate Lady Antebellum at New York City's Irving Plaza.

ohmy.gif Shocked she's chosen this, but I adore it, so I'm delighted wub.gif

Posted by: Klumzee Sep 14 2011, 04:02 PM

6th single! ohmy.gif I don't really care if she's going to 'ruin her streak'. I LOVE THIS! wub.gif

Posted by: Liаm Sep 14 2011, 04:04 PM

Woah ohmy.gif So shocked but insanely happy, this is my 3rd favourite on the album behind Firework and E.T. wub.gif

Posted by: Jáhq Sep 14 2011, 04:11 PM

KATY, NOOO.

Worst song on the album, Peacock aside.

QUOTE
Nothing ventured, nothing gained."

Such is the thinking, as voiced by EMI Music/Capitol Records EVP/marketing and promotion Greg Thompson, behind the label's decision to release a sixth pop radio single from Katy Perry's album, "Teenage Dream."

The set's "The One That Got Away" goes for airplay next month.

The label stressed that it is not specifically releasing "One" with the hopes of rewriting Hot 100 history. Rather, the decision factors in Perry's fondness for the song, its ear-catching hook and her obvious track record of success at pop radio.

"If it goes to No. 1, that would be great," said Thompson. "If not, we still have a Katy song on the radio in fourth quarter," potentially fueling further sales for "Dream" in the busiest of shopping seasons.

Even if "One" is not a Hot 100 No. 1, Perry still offers her fans the gift of a Yuletide-timed release. If it does reach the apex, Perry herself opens the gift of unprecedented Hot 100 history.

Adding to the song's chart-topping potential: a "touch-up," i.e., a Dr. Luke-produced radio edit of the album version, according to Thompson, and a video. The label is currently "reading treatments" for the proposed clip. (Perry penned the song with Dr. Luke (Lukasz Gottwald) and Max Martin).

Perry's "California Dreams Tour," which kicked off in February, continues with U.S., South American and European dates through Dec. 1. Of the 40 concerts reported to Billboard Boxscore, the tour has grossed $22 million and played to 408,000 fans.

It was a last minute decision apparently.

Posted by: THEO. Sep 14 2011, 05:01 PM

I really, really love the song (and was quite disappointed that I didn't see it performed live on her tour), and I think it's great that she's releasing it - firstly it shows off a different side to the album of the previous tracks and secondly it will shift albums biggrin.gif Hopefully 'Teenage Dream' passes 1m in the UK soon. I'm really looking forward to the video too; I expect something like the 'Teenage Dream' video, but surely the budget will be rather big to do something unique, seeing as how much money the record and its singles will've earned thus far.

Posted by: gooddelta Sep 14 2011, 06:09 PM

Great choice, she seems to have chosen all of my favourites to release, first Last Friday Night and now this! biggrin.gif

Surprised she's still milking it for singles though, at least without a deluxe!

Posted by: Neil Sep 14 2011, 07:27 PM

So her US chart run will be: 1 -> 1 -> 1 -> 1 -> 1 -> 68

Teenage Dream doesn't need a 6th single :/

Posted by: MANIAC Sep 14 2011, 07:58 PM

Great choice for a single, but they should've left the era alone. This WILL ruin her record. I'm looking forward to that radio edit, though. Any idea when it's released?

Posted by: Cremey Sep 14 2011, 08:29 PM

YES!! Her best song after 'E.T.', absolutely adore it.

Posted by: Johnkilometre Sep 14 2011, 08:40 PM

I doubt this will be #1, but there is clearly a great deal of radio support and general love for her so I can see it being a bit hit all the same, I would imagine it'll easyily go top 5. If they time things right with a big performance and throw out another alternate version like they did with Last Friday Night it probably would stand a chance at #1.

Posted by: -Irish-Ladd- Sep 14 2011, 08:55 PM

I think an X Factor performance could save this song. Remember what happened after 'Firework' was performed on X Factor? If she releases the video and goes on X Factor the same week, it could have a good chance of top 5, even top 3!

Posted by: ▲▲▲ Sep 14 2011, 09:34 PM

I can't think of any other campaign where they got ALL of the single choices so right.

Posted by: Aphrodite Sep 14 2011, 10:04 PM

6 singles from an album is almost unheard of, but i guess they have nothing to lose, even if the isngle doesnt do well im sure it will push a few album sales her way, with the era been so successful though i still think at worst the one that got away will still go top 40.

Posted by: Jack Sep 14 2011, 11:00 PM

YES!! My favourite song left on the album that isn't a single, perfect choice. Hope it can be a success for her but I think Top 20 is the best she can expect in the UK and maybe Top 10 in the US ... which still isn't a bad thing by any means.

Posted by: GrAmii Sep 14 2011, 11:39 PM

Great song from an amazing album, but they really need to stop now!!!!!!!
Just wait and release a new record in the spring woman.

That said, I guess the plus side of this will be a possible X Factor performance both sides of the Atlantic? I would love the album to pass a million here, considering it's on about 800k now.

Posted by: Jonjo Sep 15 2011, 12:19 AM

GAHHHHH! Amazing choice! I really, really hope this "shocks" and manages to become a massive top 3 for her in the US. Top 10 would be appreciated for the UK. wub.gif Ahhh. Please get an XF slot and perform this!

I know. This era really has been perfect in every way with single releases.

I don't see this being #1 just as it is the 6th single, unless it just gets heavy promo and a beyond stellar music video. I see this going top ten, top twenty at the least.

Posted by: Jonjo Sep 15 2011, 03:48 PM

Depends how successful and how much of an impact US XF will be. I can see her getting a slot on that, easily. Especially after all she's done for the UK version last year. Simon loves her and will want to help her.

Posted by: Jimmie Sep 16 2011, 09:41 PM

The way Teenage Dream is going Katy won't have to release a greatest hits in the future laugh.gif

I'm happy with the choice but I wanted her to stop this era after "Last Friday Night" It's always great to end on a high. I hope this achieves similar success though. Fingers crossed.

Posted by: Silver Rocket Sep 16 2011, 11:09 PM

It's boring, they should give up after getting the first five choices so very right.

Posted by: Slick Sep 16 2011, 11:11 PM

I really like this song. The first time I heard it I thought it was boring but it's such a sweet song - a little bit Taylor Swift with the lyrics but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I hope it goes Top 20 here.

Posted by: AaronTM Sep 17 2011, 11:28 PM

This song makes my heart ache. </3

Brilliant single choice. Not my favourite non-single left (that'd be "Not Like The Movies" - which would suck as a single), nor the most obvious single choice left ("Hummingbird Heartbeat" or "Circle The Drain" would be imo - though the latter would be a drastic image change) but it makes sense to me. So glad it's been picked!

Posted by: Jack Sep 18 2011, 12:32 PM

I would've thought 'Peacock' was the most obvious choice left, very tongue in cheek ala Rude Boy and would've done very well I think. Glad it isn't a single though, it's probably my least favourite on the album.

Posted by: AaronTM Sep 18 2011, 11:28 PM

Oh yeah, true. Part of me thinks it would have been given a ridiculous radio edit that bleeps out the "cock" bit though. It's pretty much a surefire hit otherwise!

I often forget how good this album is. I think the only songs that couldn't be singles are "Not Like The Movies" (which is actually a favourite of mine), "Pearl" and perhaps "Who Am I Living For?" (which, actually, could probably do alright with some sort of rap edit - it's quite an 'epic' sounding song.) everything else is crafted perfectly for radio! I don't think she'll ever top this album for me. I prefer a handful of songs on the debut to anything on this, but this is really solid.

Posted by: Jack Sep 19 2011, 04:46 PM

I agree, it's her 'Good Girl Gone Bad' that has launched her to become absolutely HUGE. Really looking forward to the next album.

Posted by: dannjohn3 Sep 19 2011, 08:25 PM

I wonder if their gonna make the beat more vibrant?

Posted by: dannjohn3 Sep 19 2011, 08:26 PM

"Peacock" would have never worked as a single (especially this late on).

I believe we're getting this instead of the re-release, and then Katy begins recording her next album in December.

Posted by: Cremey Sep 28 2011, 07:01 PM

Posted by: THEO. Sep 28 2011, 07:13 PM

I don't really like that. Katy looks okay at best, and the fonts/placing are a bit...eh. Also, the radio edit has leaked!

Posted by: Jáhq Sep 28 2011, 08:03 PM

Can you throw a link my way please, Theo?

I don't mind the cover really, not one of her best but quite 'nice' all the same.

Posted by: Liаm Sep 28 2011, 08:30 PM

I really like the picture but the font placing's a bit shit tbh.

Posted by: MANIAC Sep 28 2011, 08:45 PM

A link for me as well please, Theo?

Posted by: AdamAloud Sep 29 2011, 10:52 PM

Love the cover, she looks amazing!

Nice single choice, but I still would've preferred 'Hummingbird Heartbeat'.

Posted by: Tyler Sep 29 2011, 11:41 PM

I love the cover.

Posted by: Slowpoke Oct 3 2011, 01:01 PM

What the hell is the difference between the original and radio edit wtf

Posted by: Johnkilometre Oct 5 2011, 04:30 PM

The fact she's an old lady and scowling like a crazy person in the first pic?

Posted by: shadow2009 Oct 5 2011, 05:40 PM

I wonder if this video will make a reference to (or include flashbacks to) the Teenage Dream single.

Katy's on X Factor next week ohmy.gif

I'm guessing she'll perform 'The One That Got Away' heart.gif

Posted by: THEO. Oct 9 2011, 08:01 PM

BUZZING! And a year since 'Firework' too! kink.gif Can't wait happy.gif

Posted by: ROBOT Oct 11 2011, 08:03 PM

Hope she sings it really well to shut everyone up who still harp on about 'how she can't sing' from Firework last year.

Sure, it was a weak performance, but one performance doesn't decide whether somebody can sing or not.

Posted by: shane2502 Oct 13 2011, 06:08 PM

Should be much better, a lot less big notes. Firework is a tricky song anyway, not just for Katy.

Posted by: AV102 Oct 13 2011, 10:38 PM

I read somewere that after The One That Got Away is released, She is releasing a brand new single called Dressin up .
Here is the demo of the song that leaked ages ago

I've heard that song before, sounds quite good in the chorus - but the verses are way too low for her.

I agree. But Katy never has been the strongest live singer. But people knew that before XF so I don't know why they suddenly decided to lynch her after that performance. (Probably because it was high profiled).

She doesn't sound too good on this, but I dunno. Maybe it's just me. (But Nicki's singing voice is cute! wub.gif)

Posted by: ROBOT Oct 14 2011, 04:10 PM

Oh wow, I think that's a great performance. WHY HAVE I NEVER COME ACROSS THIS BEFORE? ohmy.gif #flopfan

If she sings it anything like this, I think she'll prove she can sing:

Posted by: CHЯIS Oct 16 2011, 05:19 PM

REALLY looking forward to her X Factor performance tonight. wub.gif Also, LOVING 'The One That Got Away' now, hopefully it'll get her another top 10 hit from this era, though there's quite a lot of big releases over the next few weeks which might push this down. Should easily go top 20 never the less. biggrin.gif

Posted by: Slowpoke Oct 16 2011, 07:29 PM

Do not like that acoustic. Disappoointed.d

Posted by: RC741 Oct 16 2011, 07:34 PM

I thought that was a fabulous performance, brilliant vocals and stage production - I've now fell in love with the song heart.gif Well done Katy!!

Posted by: THEO. Oct 16 2011, 07:35 PM

Beautiful performance on The X tonight! I wish she'd performed it when I went to see her live, now, because it would've been great during her acoustic interlude wub.gif I'm glad she performed it like that too, to prove to those who slated her 'Firework' performance that she can sing biggrin.gif

Posted by: CHЯIS Oct 16 2011, 08:02 PM

Stunning. That was a big f*** YOU to all the people who've said in the past that she cant sing. biggrin.gif Loved it.

Hopefully she'll release the video sooner rather than later.

Posted by: Lukuzz Oct 16 2011, 10:09 PM

Brilliant performance, I genuinely used to think she sucked live but that proved me wrong.

Posted by: Silver Rocket Oct 17 2011, 03:59 AM

I liked the performance, much better than last year's! The song still bores me though...

Posted by: Slick Oct 17 2011, 06:17 AM

At times I wondered just HOW live this performance was, since I've NEVER heard her sing as well as that. Very good performance. I hope it does fairly well off the back of it.

Posted by: ROBOT Oct 17 2011, 11:07 AM

So so happy that people loved her performance, after last year when she just got slammed! It really suited going acoustic, loved it wub.gif

Posted by: CHЯIS Oct 17 2011, 11:41 PM

arrow up.gif to #14 on iTunes. Made up that its doing so well. biggrin.gif

Posted by: ROBOT Oct 18 2011, 01:44 PM

#16 in the first midweeks (with the album rebounding to #6 ohmy.gif)

Posted by: Ashley Oct 18 2011, 09:38 PM

Her X factor performance was great and I'm glad she did it acoustic. For me, it redeemed herself after her terrible vocals last year and showed the side of her that seems to have got lost in all the glitz and pink hair.

Posted by: THEO. Oct 19 2011, 05:44 PM

It would've climbed a place in the midweeks today, had Justin Bieber not overtaken her due to a late release. Sean Paul will also overtake by the end of the week, but as she's still #15 on iTunes, I can see her remaining at at least #16 on Sunday.

Posted by: Jack Oct 22 2011, 02:47 PM

Any idea of when we'll be seeing the video?! She needs to get it out ASAP!

Posted by: Lukuzz Oct 22 2011, 03:30 PM

This song has gave me a whole new love for the album. Great song!

Posted by: CHЯIS Oct 23 2011, 02:53 PM

arrow down.gif to #42 on iTunes. THE VIDEO IS DESPERATELY NEEDED.

Posted by: RC741 Oct 23 2011, 04:54 PM

I assume she has already filmed the video?

Posted by: CHЯIS Oct 23 2011, 05:05 PM

That is correct. They finished filming on the 1st October, so we should be getting it anytime now... The sooner the better.

Posted by: Marina Hurts Oct 28 2011, 09:04 PM

What's taking so long? Surely it doesn't take a whole month to edit a freaking video, does it?

Posted by: Umi Oct 29 2011, 02:44 PM

I think after they released the Last Friday Night video far too early in the US they want to time this right for maximum impact. Another week would be a good wait in the US.

Posted by: Jonjo Oct 29 2011, 02:57 PM

But she could at least leak a 30 second clip or something! drama.gif

Posted by: CHЯIS Oct 30 2011, 05:02 PM

Video apparently released next week.

Amazing. She looks SO much like Zooey Deschannel! (And that is by NO MEANS a bad thing! heart.gif)

Posted by: Umi Nov 4 2011, 04:05 PM

The 11th is grand! It's beginning to slow down a bit on radio but I'm confident that it won't do a Lay It On Me and will speed up again after the video release. I wonder where this will chart in the end.

Posted by: THEO. Nov 4 2011, 04:35 PM

Looks a bit too similar to 'We Found Love', but I'm obviously still looking forward to it anyway - hopefully it's up to the standard of the previous five.

Posted by: Umi Nov 4 2011, 09:41 PM

Well I do hope it's better than Firework and Teenage Dream!

Posted by: ROBOT Nov 4 2011, 11:31 PM

Firework's video is still probably my favourite yet, it nearly made me cry the first time I watched it..

Posted by: Jáhq Nov 5 2011, 11:37 AM

Really liking the video trailer, hopefully the full thing will be the key to me getting on board with this song/single.

Like Theo says, from the clip it looks a bit like 'We Found Love' but that's no bad thing and it's not like it was purposefully copied as it was filmed before the WFL video was released, right? The full thing could even be completely different.

Posted by: Frank! Nov 7 2011, 06:08 PM

Love the trailer. She looks like Marion Cotillard in the trailer though, which is a compliment obviously wub.gif

Posted by: ROBOT Nov 11 2011, 05:27 PM

It's not the whole video, but it's got the whole song in it - the whole video is on Ellen's website at 1 in the US.

Posted by: THEO. Nov 11 2011, 07:31 PM

Not my favourite video from the era, but it is very emotional towards the end. My only nitpick is how the lyric says "someone said you got your tattoo removed", when he still has it at the end.

Posted by: ROBOT Nov 11 2011, 07:38 PM

OMG got really sad at the end. Probably the weakest video of the era, but it's still REALLY good, she just consistently has amazing videos..

Posted by: Propilot87 Nov 11 2011, 09:18 PM

I love the video, its so sad i almost cried at the end, also a woman that i work with, her daughter works for Katy's record company, she said there's supposed to be a longer version of the video coming out (around 8 mins long) unsure.gif , i dont know if thats already been mentioned or confirmed somewhere or not but it might set up the video a little bit better, guess we'll see!

Posted by: Acoustic Nov 11 2011, 09:45 PM

Brilliant video.

Posted by: SwaggerCher Nov 11 2011, 10:46 PM

I love the video heart.gif

Posted by: Slick Nov 11 2011, 11:20 PM

Aww that's a really good video, it fits the song so well. Tugs at my heartstrings. It's nice to see Katy can do sensible if she wants to.

Posted by: Silver Rocket Nov 11 2011, 11:32 PM

This girl sure knows how to do brilliant videos, I love that! Really quite emotional and I didn't expect that ending at all.

As for "weakest video of the era", that surely goes to 'Teenage Dream'? (even though that's my favourite song of the era).

Also, the video has definitely helped me come around to the song a lot more. The song isn't quite as good without the video accompanying it though.

Posted by: cookie_monster Nov 12 2011, 02:12 AM

A brilliant and thought provoking video here. All her videos this era have been great - Teenage Dream was probably the weakest but even that was good. Hopefully when this video gets some play, the track will rebound back into the top 40. An incredibly achievement - I'm not even sure Rihanna or Gaga could get 6 singles top 25 or 5 singles in the top 10 from the same (currently unre-released) album. Katy Perry has some power regarding the singles chart!

Posted by: Jonjo Nov 12 2011, 03:14 AM

Brilliant video. I actually think it's my favourite from the era. it just suits the song, perfectly. It's now my favourite Katy Perry song to date. It's going to take some doing for anything to beat it. wub.gif I'm impressed.

Posted by: shane2502 Nov 13 2011, 02:23 PM

It's a really sweet video, but it's a bit poorly edited. I'm hoping that's just the way it was cut down from the 7 minute version. It's beautifully shot, though.

Posted by: MANIAC Nov 15 2011, 09:04 PM

Poor Katy, she's been at #11 on the US iTunes for a while waiting for those 2 Taylor Swift songs to drop out. Now that they finally have, two Drake album tracks push it back down. drama.gif I'm starting to wonder if a 6th top 10 is in the cards for her...

Posted by: Propilot87 Nov 23 2011, 03:16 AM

here's the AMA performance.....

vocals were really good, she got a standing O too!

Posted by: THEO. Nov 24 2011, 06:27 PM

This has entered the Hot 100 top 10 this week, giving her a sixth top 10 hit from the album - I doubt it'll be a #1, but a top five hit would be nice biggrin.gif

Posted by: Jσηνκι& Nov 24 2011, 06:31 PM

Still, it's only the 7th album in history to yield 6 top 10 billboard hot 100 hits.

Posted by: Jonjo Nov 25 2011, 12:15 AM

What were the other 6?

Posted by: THEO. Nov 25 2011, 11:44 AM

Thriller, Born In The U.S.A. (Bruce Springsteen), Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814, Faith, Bad and Janet. Seriously impressive for her! ohmy.gif I never knew Janet was so successful though laugh.gif

Posted by: ROBOT Nov 25 2011, 06:33 PM

So happy for Katy, not sure how much higher it's gonna get for her - but as Theo said, fingers crossed for another top 5!

Posted by: Jáhq Nov 25 2011, 08:02 PM

So if it is lucky enough to get another top 5 for her, would that make 'Teenage Dream' the 3rd album to get six top five Billboard Hot 100 hits? Faith & Rhythm Nation 1814 both managed it by my count but I think the other four had five maximum ('Bad' having five at #1 but then Smooth Criminal landing at #7).

Posted by: Atonement Dec 7 2011, 06:09 PM

Record company EMI slashed the iTunes price in half to ensure the #1 hit.
Can you say pathetic? ridiculous? sad? sad.gif

Posted by: shadow2009 Dec 7 2011, 08:42 PM

Cheeky. biggrin.gif They're not hiding the fact they want that #1. At least they're making an effort!

New record!

QUOTE
What do Katy Perry, Janet Jackson and George Michael all have in common? Well, aside from making catchy tunes, they are also the only three artists to spawn six top-five hits from a single album on the Hot 100 chart in Billboard history.

Thanks to Katy's latest Teenage Dream single, "The One That Got Away," jumping five spots from #9 to #4, she tied the two pop stars.

It's been a while since anyone matched George and Janet. Michael did it in the mid-'80s with his album Faith, which included hits like the title track, "I Want Your Sex" and "Father Figure." Jackson followed him several years later with Rhythm Nation 1814, which launched hits like "Love Will Never Do (Without You)," "Escapade" and "Black Cat."

This is hardly Perry's first Billboard record. She previously tied with Michael Jackson and his Bad album when she notched five #1 singles from her 2010 album. Those five chart-toppers are "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)," "California Gurls," "Teenage Dream," "Firework" and "E.T." And now, she's set her latest record with "The One That Got Away."

"This song shows a very different side of me that I haven't shown with my past singles on this record," Perry has previously said about the Teenage Dream midtempo track. "I think that everyone can relate to this song. I wrote this song about when you promise someone forever, but you end up not being able to follow through. It's a bittersweet story — hopefully, the listener learns from hearing it and never has to say they had 'The One' get away."

Another Dream megahit, "Firework," sits at #10 on MTV's Best Songs of 2011 list. Perry's inspirational dance track is joined on the list by LMFAO's "Party Rock Anthem," Chris Brown's "Look at Me Now," Rihanna's "We Found Love" and Lady Gaga's "Born This Way," to name a few.

I really, REALLY want this to hit number 1 for her, so BAD in the US. She MUST get that record and not "tie" with anyone drama.gif It's thoroughly deserving of reaching number 1, imo. It's easily her best ever song for me. Hopefully, with it sticking in the top 20 on UK iTunes, she can manage to get another top 10 hit over here with it, too. Hopefully it'll be reduced to 59p or something in time for the new year chart.

Im really glad it was able to hit top 5, that in itself is quite an impressive achievement whether it goes #1 or not (although i want to cuz it deserves to) to yield 6 hot 100 top 5 hits is super impressive and probably something that won't happen again for a while.

According to Popjustice a remix with B.O.B is being released next week. laugh.gif

Posted by: Jonjo Dec 15 2011, 10:59 PM

Really?! At least B.o.B. is relevant now as opposed to Missy Elliott. laugh.gif But are we sure they weren't just mocking the fact she's done a re-release with a rapper on a couple of times before? laugh.gif

I really would rather this not beat Michael Jackson's record. At least with all these try hard attempts from her label.

Posted by: Atonement Dec 16 2011, 03:23 PM

They're really pulling out all the stops. I hope she won't be gettin' the #1 sad.gif

It doesn't work at all... I'd love for her to have the record, but I mean PLEASE?! manson.gif

Posted by: Jonjo Dec 17 2011, 02:39 AM

Why have they decided to make his part sound like it was meant for 'E.T.'? nocheer.gif Really hope it does the trick though. (I seem to be the only one haha)

Posted by: ROBOT Dec 17 2011, 06:43 PM

I was really hoping she wouldn't do a 'tacky adding on' with this one, just let it fall where it's gonna fall. sad.gif

Posted by: Liаm Dec 17 2011, 08:11 PM

Remix has leaked in full. It doesn't really work but it's not as bad as Missy's part on LFN. I do hope she gets the record though!

Posted by: Davidson Dec 17 2011, 08:55 PM

Oh dear, its awful. I agree, sounds like it was created for E.T. and has its backing track laugh.gif

Posted by: Aidan Dec 18 2011, 02:15 AM

This is such a desperate move from the label, and the remix doesn't work at all. It'll be nice if Katy does break the record, but the fact that they have released two remixes featuring rappers to get there is not needed. Just let it chart where it charts.

Posted by: Jonjo Dec 18 2011, 02:23 PM

"f*** you capitol for this, it isn't important how many #1's an artist has, you should not cheat to get this record, and IF you are cheating, why didn't you release an acoustic version which fits the heartmelt-feeling of this LOVE-song, instead of this fu'kin not-fitting-rap parts.
katy deserves this record, but not in this way"

I agree with this comment. They really should have released an acoustic version/remix package for the song and promoted both the normal version and one of the remixes or something if they wanted the record so bad. Not adding on the rap. I don't know why people are complaining to capitol though. I think it's nice and refreshing to see a label actually care about an artist. It's refreshing.

(Although the rap in the middle of the song fits in with the song a lot more than the 'E.T.' intro.

You know, one word I would use to describe it is refreshing. Do you agree Jon?

I actually really want this to get to number just because it's basically her best song ever (at least tied with 'E.T'.) and if songs as terrible as 'Firework' can get there, this definitely should!

Posted by: Jonjo Dec 18 2011, 05:01 PM

LOL. Oops. sad.gif

Oh I completely agree with your 2nd part! It really does deserve to be number 1 because it'd be nice and I guess people could say it'd be refreshing to see.

Posted by: Aidan Dec 20 2011, 08:12 PM

The remix is available on iTunes now, I wonder how high it'll get... happy.gif

Posted by: dannjohn3 Dec 21 2011, 10:37 PM

To be honest, I don't see this being particularly desperate. Both "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F)" and "The One That Got Away" were so close to getting #1 by their own merit, with the push of the remixes, it's just done what the tracks couldn't do themselves. In a way, it's genius marketing, and hopefully it'll make Katy see she shouldn't take too much of a break off. smile.gif

I'd love for her to have an acoustic version to push the track further up for the UK, considering her X Factor performance was brilliant.

Posted by: Jimmie Dec 25 2011, 06:13 PM

I am all for remixes, I love having alternative remixes to listen too when I start to tire of the originals. On the whole though, I still prefer the originals and tend to listen to them.

Acoustic version is out on iTunes!

I must get a link to that version! Does anyone have one for me please? biggrin.gif

Posted by: JohnMK Jan 17 2012, 12:34 AM

They really will do ANYTHING to get that 6th #1, i don't blame them of course but it's not going to happen.

Posted by: Aidan Jan 17 2012, 04:23 PM

Wow, I really like the acoustic version! biggrin.gif

Posted by: cookie_monster Jan 19 2012, 02:12 PM

This is what I'm taking about! laugh.gif It captures the emotion beautifully! So much better than the B.O.B remix.

This was was the first track to make me really fall in love with Katy. It's still her best song for many and in my top 5 fave songs of all time. And The video OMG <3

Posted by: JosephFriend Mar 31 2015, 12:03 PM

It's sooo underrated. One of her absolute best for me wub.gif

Posted by: THEO. Mar 31 2015, 12:48 PM

I'd definitely say that now the dust has firmly settled over the ever-extended Teenage Dream era (and the Prism era too, so it seems) that this is my favourite Katy song ever. It's just so special and the lyrics are so well-crafted, it's really a testament to her talent which is sadly overlooked at times (see also: "Thinking of You" where she Katy is the only songwriter!) Gorgeous wub.gif
