BuzzJack Music Forum _ R&B and Hip-Hop _ Rae Sremmurd - Black Beatles (feat. Gucci Mane)

Currently #4 on the US Spotify chart, this is a typically catchy effort from US rap duo Rae Sremmurd, with 2013's Mike Will Made It on production. They struck me as a one-album wonder so pleasantly surprised to see their continued success, especially as songs like No Type and Throw Some Mo were certainly divisive.

Not a fan, hopefully this doesn't take off in the UK. I kinda liked 'No Type' but nothing else.

Didn't realise this was taking off! Definitely one of the highlights from the second album, great to see it having some success.

Maybe could do something over here.

#1 on American iTunes apparently...

I listened to this a couple of weeks ago expecting it to be absolutely atrocious based on the title alone (and how awful their earlier singles were), but this is actually surprisingly pretty good.

This is just okay, nothing special. I still think "Throw Sum Mo" is their best

#01 on the US iTunes with a pretty huge lead, almost top 5 in Canada + gaining traction pretty fast here and in Aus ohmy.gif

Think I'm still missing what's special about this song? I know the mannequin challenge, but it's a standard hip hop song with a good beat. Probably too long if anything! Not as catchy as No Type.

Posted by: Dobbo Nov 12 2016, 03:28 PM

Yeah nothing exciting about this track, very middle-of-the-road hip hop track.

Posted by: Hadji Nov 12 2016, 08:20 PM

I do quite like this track but shame that "No Type" failed to become a hit

Posted by: Danvember Nov 14 2016, 01:51 PM

This is growing on me now, good thing I guess as this is clearly set up to be a massive hit. Next US #1 probably too.

They have better songs than this - Throw Sum Mo and This Could Be Us particularly - but it's nice to see them taking off!

Posted by: Joe. Nov 14 2016, 02:18 PM

I find this much better than Throw Sum Mo and This Could Be Us. The only single i prefer to this is No Type. I love this.

Posted by: Davidson Nov 14 2016, 03:53 PM

I don't really get the hype for this at all.

Seems strange that of all the great hip hop songs that this is the one taking off.

This Could Be Us is one of the best songs of 2015 wub.gif

Officially #1 on the Hot 100 cheer.gif

The Nicki Minaj remix of this is awful - just like her remix of The Hills this time last year was.

I'm not mad about her version but the lyrics are hilarious! And you gotta love the Donald Trump shade as well!

Posted by: Cremey Nov 16 2016, 10:44 PM

I love the Nicki version, haha. Just makes me want a new album though!

Posted by: Davidson Nov 16 2016, 11:26 PM

Take back what I said about this song a couple of days ago, it's been in my head since. Keeps on growing.

I also like the Nicki version but feel like she could have went even harder.

Posted by: twentyonemdh Nov 18 2016, 04:43 PM

#1 on UK Spotify, this is looking like UK #1 next week - massive dance.gif

Crazy how suddenly this seems to have blown up overnight, really pleased with its success though, it jam-packed full of hooks. Throw Sum Mo is still their best for me but I think that has overtaken No Type to be their second best for me.

The Nicki version is fab too. Some of the one liners are *-* I could listen to a longer version of the Nicki and Rae verses put together on repeat for ages.

This Could Be Us is underrated too, glad to see it get a mention in here by mdh biggrin.gif

Posted by: burbe Nov 18 2016, 04:54 PM

This would be such a fab #1! I'm really getting into this now heart.gif

Posted by: The Emperor Nov 23 2016, 08:58 PM

It sounds like they are saying 'Grey Squirrel' at the start before the line 'Mike Will Made it' basil.gif

Just realised it must be 'Rae Sremmurd' instead
