The gaffe came when Boris Johnson was referring to a journalist arrested whilst on holiday in Iran.

"The foreign secretary had been criticised for saying Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, in prison in Iran, had been training journalists there.
A charity said the remarks could worsen her sentence. She had been in Iran on holiday when she was arrested, it said."

We all know Boris Johnson, famous for his 'snobby' Eton photo with Cameron et al, is FAMOUS for gaffes, such as singing a Colonial Kipling poem ON MIC about Burma in BURMA in a HOLY SITE, but I think this gaffe is something else.

He is embarrassing the UK on the world stage, even more so after Brexit has reduced the UK's UN speeches to being completely ignored, with empty halls and the few delegates left playing Tetris together. However, now he has put someone's freedom in jeopardy. I think we need him replaced very quickly. I have NO idea why he was made Foreign Secretary at all, and his constant gaffes are further cheapning the country's image and causing problems.

What do you think of this situation??

He is an idiot who shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a position of power. His claim that his comments were "a slip of the tongue" is pathetic. A "slip of the tongue" generally means accidentally using the wrong (but similar) word or name, not blurting out something that simply isn't true. Even if he was simply referring to her job without suggesting that was what she was in Iran for (as he now claims), why did he feel the need to mention that at all?

That defence they made for him is just rolleyes.gif - just like sending out everyone to defend Priti, only for it to backfire - he is unsackable really. Like I said, the moment he goes he launches a takeover bid, o at least the very threat of it stops Mad May from doin anythin. It is like the nuclear option for this flimsy shambles of a government.

They are still the lesser of two evils, though.

They really are not, in any sense, less of an evil than any other party. The are literally dubbed The Nasty Party, following a failed ideological austerity programme after lying about the Crisis, caused Brexit, then failed to even prepare for negotiations, with wage squeezing the highest for a generation, poverty up, food bank use up, impoverished workers, the worst recovery on recod, growth and wage growth on a par with Greece!!!! Omnishambles. Bring on socialism and end unfettered Tory capitalism. The sooner this shambles fails, the better.

The person who coined the phrase "The nasty party" was called Theresa May, I wonder what happened to her.

The result of the recent general election suggests otherwise.

Unfettered socialism does *not* work - only a mixed economy is practical in the long term.

The same policies are workin wonders in Portugal and Scandinavia x - nationalised infrastructure and sound tax policies is not unfettered x.

Neoliberql trickledown capitalism has failed and created a plutocearic unstable society with an unstable mess of an extreme right government.

Yeah, no. They went down from a 20 point lead to losing seats for the first time ever, even with the entire backing of the establishment. We have discussed this before?? Why am I repeating it????

Why? Because despite losing seats, the Tories are still in government - something you find hard to accept.

That won't happen again.

More people voted for the Tories than Labour - that had nothing to do with the DUP.

Also, I don't believe there's been a case where the party without the highest number of MP's has formed the gov't - certainly not in the modern era.

You make it sound like the £1bn was paid directly into DUP accounts, but it benefits NI in general.

Why on earth would Scottish Nationalists vote to *prevent* a 2nd referendum? huh.gif

More people didnt vote for the tories than did. Hardly a ringing endorsement when they thought they would have a walkover huge majority.

A bribe is a bribe. Where is dorsets billion pounds for our tory struggling services? We are having to merge councils in order to mke yet more job cuts. People have no idea yet what scale of services cuts are on the way....

You say that like it is an unusual situation - but even when Blair won his 140+ majority, more people voted against Labour than for them.

Do you imagine that if the situation was reversed, that the DUP wouldn't have demanded an 'incentive' from Labour to join them in coalition?

They arent in a coalition. they have bought votes to keep the government in power. the Libdems didn't demand Tories send cash right away to the Constituencies of the Libdem MP's - that's effectively what the DUP have done....

This is just shameful. It is FAR more than a 'slip of the tongue'. It is malice.

I suspect the reality is that he was too lazy to make sure he was fully briefed. Of course, he probably also doesn't accept that Ms Zaghari-Ratcliffe was really on holiday. After all, she didn't meet any foreign government ministers.
