Fresh from his Super Bowl Halftime Show, does Justin Timberlake have the power to replace The Greatest Showman soundtrack at #1 with his new album Man of the Woods? Other new entries should include albums from Don Broco, Field Music, Hookworms, Rae Morris and Simple Minds.

Drake seems set for another week at #1 in the singles, but with 'These Days' by Rudimental, Jess Glynne and Macklemore climbing fast, is his days at #1 numbered? The Weeknd & Kendrick Lamar's 'Pray for Me' should enter the Top 40, with Justin Timberlake's 'Say Something' and 'Filthy' looking likely to see boosts from his album streams.

Was expecting JT to be a #1 debut? unsure.gif

Nice collection of entries and re-entries at the bottom of the top 40 too - that Hailee Steinfeld song has been around for so long now, how come it's picking up some traction now?

Posted by: danG Feb 5 2018, 02:58 PM

Rudimental at #2 is amazing to see, really hope they push it to #1 next week it actually seems quite possible now.

Good to see B Young and Kojo Funds top 40 at this stage too, not sure if Kojo will make it this week but it should quite easily peak in the top 20.

Posted by: Shia LeMuffQueef Feb 5 2018, 03:03 PM

Well, he should do a bit better than Witness at least, 4-6k more.

Posted by: Bré Feb 5 2018, 03:16 PM

Wow, that's really bad for Justin... I thought he might miss out to The Greatest Showman but not by that much. TGS is really gonna be #1 for months at this rate.

Posted by: SKOB Feb 5 2018, 03:22 PM

Until the BRITS i guess

The greatest showman will be the biggest selling album of the year. Keala is performing This is me is on Graham Norton this Friday and at the Oscars. Plus it will have the dvd release and everyone singing This is me on X factor this year.

It wont even be close in the race to YE biggest selling album.

Posted by: Bjork Feb 5 2018, 04:17 PM

cannot really see the appeal of the Greatest showman soundtrack, or the This is Me song, too much shouting

i was hoping they'd give the oscar for best song to Sufjan Stevens for Mystery of love, but I guess he won't, since he's not even been invited to perform :/

What do you think the BRITs will boost to #1? I guess Ed Sheeran is the obvious answer but I don't know if he will, TGS is massively outselling him each week now and showing no signs of slowing down.

I thought the film was great and the music is so feel good. I'm pleased something different that has grown organically is ruling the charts right now.

Posted by: Knightr634 Feb 5 2018, 05:01 PM

I would imagine the Mamma Mia 2 soundtrack doing well this summer too. Could be a battle of the soundtrack albums?

Posted by: Frooot Feb 5 2018, 05:03 PM

That's tragic sales for Timberlake, I'm wondering he could possibly drop down to #3? But i'm guessing the gap will be closed tomorrow before TGS extends their lead during the remainder of the week.

Witness entered at #6 - he will be all right for Top 3.

Simple Minds on course for Top 5 will be an excellent result for them.

Posted by: Mart!n Feb 5 2018, 06:28 PM

I never thought Simple Minds would get a top 3 placing with this album, its actually pretty good, been listening to it in the background, goes to show there is still Simple Minds fans out there, and probably gathering up new fans, there is still life in old bands/ acts, OMD, Gary Numan, etc etc.

middling* numbers.

When the top two results on google for the album are not about sales, but THIS, which btw is even worse press than Witness,

"1.) 21 hours ago - 'It is embarrassing': Critics tear apart Justin Timberlake's 'baffling, vacuous' album Man Of The Woods, claiming the flop proves he is no longer worthy of pop superstar status. ... Justin Timberlake's new album is out, and the scathing reviews are in. Man Of The Woods, the former ..."

2.) "Is Justin Timberlake's New Album Really That Bad? An Investigation"

He'll likely mind. Still, he had a good run, but pop stars don't last forever.

do we have to keep comparing it with Witness just because both are albums which underperformed commercially and critically though?

by the way his songs got a https://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/8098189/justin-timberlake-super-bowl-halftime-show-sales-gain in the US following his Super Bowl performance, and the album is projected to sell at least https://www.hotnewhiphop.com/justin-timberlakes-man-of-the-woods-first-week-sales-projections-report-news.43301.html, you can't say that's bad.

Witness did 180k and Joanne did 201k, both without the Superbowl to help them.

The music industry has been VERY supportive of male singers these past two years too, so all in all those sales for a fanbase pop act, like any of those 3, aren't the best.

You are reet tbh, a lot of my faves are flops these days laugh.gif :cheeseblock: Doesn't affect me much tbh, still love Bon Appetit etc

33 actually. I listened to it all the way through. That album flopped because it was awful, JT is not doing as well because of the hate surrounding him at the moment. Roulette was quite good but she can do a lot better and the last era was shocking. Hope she comes back stronger tbf.

Can you not do a personal attack please, I've been warned for that!

Posted by: T Boy Feb 6 2018, 07:13 PM

I think that the general consensus in this thread is that, unless you’re Pink, your comebacks will always flop.

Katy Perry is an Embarrassment. Album was shocking. JT is smashing it and just about to do a massive worldwide hit tour. TALENT ALWAYS WINS

The N Sync boybander is now talent? lol

JT's album is also shockingly bad. It's why it's flopping, just like Katy's.

Check back on the press. They are FAR WORSE ON WOMEN. Look at what Katy's press was like. WAAAAY worse than anything JT has got. WAAAY worse.

Posted by: Midge Feb 6 2018, 07:29 PM

Taste is subjective. Hell, I think Drake's "God's Plan" is abysmal, but clearly some people like it or it wouldn't be number 1, and that's fine - not for me to get hissy about. Can people please get over the fact some of us like one thing, and some of us don't?

Personally I love "Man Of The Woods", I haven't binged a JT album like I have this one.

Posted by: Lomadz Feb 6 2018, 07:31 PM

Not true at all. He has got so much crap for being a white male and apparently being a culture vulture etc.

NSYNC were massive and yes he is very talented. He is my idol and it's hard to see the press at the moment etc. Just don't like seeing the constant negativity on a site I have followed for years. Higher and higher alone is better than most songs put out lately. Just happy he's not following trend and can still do well over 20 years later.

Very fair point, I just couldn't take the constant hate directed at JT.

Very surprised that Lady Gaga had a bigger boost than JT

The percentage of sales boost means nothing, because if the artist was selling 1 copies before the show and 100 copies after the show, he as a 100% boost, while if the artist was selling 200 copies before the show and 2.000 copies after the show, he "only" has a 10% boost while selling way more than the first example.
Basically, the poorest the sales were before the Superbowl, the higher the sales boost percentage can be.

Exactly, for example, Beyonce had no new music out when she did the Super Bowl. BEYONCE wouldn't drop until the end of the year.

Posted by: Joe. Feb 7 2018, 11:39 AM

Last year Gaga climbed from #88 to #11 in the album charts off the back of the Superbowl.

It's release week for JT so his hype should be even bigger, yet he's only sold 3.3k since Monday's mids...

My favourite to date is on The Spinoff where they renamed the album "Man Who Went Camping Once"(!) and stated:

I don’t know why this album is called Man of the Woods. The whole thing is an attempt by Timberlake to go back to his roots but it doesn’t feel like his memory goes back beyond about 2005. More accurate titles would include: Man Who Did a Photoshoot in the Woods, Man Who Did a Photoshoot in Front of a Green Screen and Was Then Placed in Front of the Woods, Man Who Went Camping Once, and Man Who Has Photos of the Woods in His Apartment.

I hope My Lover reaches a new peak!

Posted by: Dexton Feb 8 2018, 01:45 AM

Sigrid is down to #5 in iTunes now though, her sales & streaming peaks aren’t matching up so her official peak isn’t really going to show her proper success at this rate. A performance at the Brits or something would boost her a lot and possibly give her an official Top 5, but that’s unlikely to happen
