The results of this are going terribly. I think most of my final points will be for Semi 1 songs!

Carnage in the 38-34 section, several of my big pointers out. Would have especially loved to see The Boxer reach the final. By contrast not too sad to lose any of this most recent batch.

Or you could say... Romeo done laugh.gif

I'm sad to lose 'Unpretty', that really is an incredible pop song, TLC at their best.

Wilson Phillips consisted of two of Brian Wilson's daughters plus the daughter of Michelle Phillips from The Mamas & The Papas. Hold On was their only UK top 10 hit. They were more successful in their own country with this being the first of three number 1 singles.

Top points - dandy* 24, AaronTM 22, AH Gold 21

Although this was the follow-up to 'Wuthering Heights' in 1978, a demo had been recorded three years earlier with the help of David Gilmour. Kate had written the song when she was only 13 years old. It won the Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding British Lyric in 1979.

26. Meredith Brooks - Bitch 216pts

Writers - Meredith Brooks, Shelly Peiken
Top points - West 23, JackJones 23, ...ready for it 21

From 1997, this was the only top 10 hit for the singer from Oregon. The follow-up single, 'I Need', stalled at number 28. The song in 25th place had a score of 217 points and more votes so Meredith would have needed two more points to get past it.

So these are the 25 singles to qualify for the final, in chronological order. It seems the more popular older songs were in the this semi with the first six all being older than the oldest qualifier from the first semi (Kiss from 1986). That figure rises to seven if you count Purple Rain. You might also have noticed that a wild card has made its way through to the final.

Killing Me Softly With His Song
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
SOS
Mr Blue Sky
Gloria
The Safety Dance
Sweet Child O' Mine
Listen To Your Heart / Dangerous
Shiny Happy People
Don't You Want Me
Ordinary World
Stay (I Missed You)
The Rockafeller Skank
The Power Of Goodbye / Little Star
Bills, Bills, Bills
I Try
Overload
Unwritten
Chasing Cars
Ready For The Floor
Remedy
The Edge Of Glory
Stay High
Purple Rain
Cha Cha Cha

Aww sad to lose Kate Bush and Meredith Brooks at the last gasp. I love Bitch and it just captures that nineties spirit so beautifully somehow.
