For the second consecutive week it is a female dominated Top 10 with 8 out of the 10 lead vocalists being of the fairer sex; however in spite of this Top 10 matriarchy, also for the second week in-a-row the number 1 artist has both an X and Y chromosome. Watford DJ George FitzGerald first made the Top 10 with “Full Circle” in May 2015, featuring the vocals of Boxed In singer/songwriter Oli Bayston it made number 5. “Burns” - which expertly chops up a sample from label mates Little Cub into an intense atmospheric banger - is the long awaited lead single from an as yet untitled follow-up due in the spring, and after tearing up the dancefloor at the end of 2017 it made a successful charge for the Top 10 and last week crept to #1. Close behind and completing a dance heavy Top 2 is the 2nd single from EP2 by 24 year-old Korean/American artist Kathy Yaeji Lee, aka Yaeji (pronounced ‘yay-jee’ - if you were wondering). Whilst “Drink I'm Sippin On” was a modest hit and made #13 last November, “Raingurl” moves up 4-2 and is shaping up to be an altogether much bigger hit, already far eclipsing it's predecessor and could potentially give her a debut #1 next week.

Lily Allen (with Giggs joining on vocal duties) secures her biggest hit by far since 2009s “The Fear” which went to #2, “Trigger Bang” inches up 7-4.

The first of two new entries to the Top 10 comes from MGMT who immediately score a 2nd Top 10 following last year's #1 hit “Little Dark Age” (down 25-29 this week) with “When You Die”, an 80's charged Gothic Rock track which jumps 13-6. Also following up a Top 10 hit from 2017, the truly global 8-piece Superorganism - they have members from as far afield as England, Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand - jump 18-9 with the Go! Team sounding electronic pop of “Everybody Wants To Be Famous”, which elegantly sums up the internet famous ambitions of YouTuber's in 2017.

There are eight new entries to the chart this week - first up is Edinburgh trio Young Fathers who went to #1 twice in 2017 with “Only God Knows” (4 weeks) and “Lord” (3 weeks, down 8-13 this week) and this week bag the week's highest debut at 32 with the soulful “In My View”, the 2nd single to be taken from their forthcoming third LP Cocoa Sugar. Beck gets another hit with the fourth single from Colors “Fix Me” which starts at 38. There are also new entries just outside the Top 40 for Sylvan Esso (with “PARAD(w/m)E” at 41), tUnE-yArDs (with “Heart Attack” at 43), Hollie Cook debuts with “Stay Alive” at 45, Moss Kena with “Square One” at 46, Irish hip-hop artist Rejjie Snow at 47 with “Egyptian Luvr” (featuring Aminé & Dana Williams) and finally Shame get a debut hit with “One Rizla” at 49.
