New #1 again this week as Pink ascends just as she does in the official chart, but a little higher. As a longtime Pink fan myself, this was bound to do well for me after her long break unless it was absolute trash, and as usual for Pink lead singles, it's very much not. This week's #2, #3, and #4 are also rises, most Drastically Nerina Pallot's #2 which ascends this week all the way from #25. The track's a bit off-type for me, very classic adult contemporary pop, guess I'm getting old with my tastes. Also new into the top 10 this week, London Grammar, Mans Zelmerlow, a re-entry for Marlene, and a brand new one from The XX, I Dare You, which was released as a single earlier this summer. Personally I feel it works much better at this time of year.

Once again this week, brand new entries are either at the top or the bottom of the chart. The former include new debuts for Chase & Status, RAC and Kimbra, while the latter features tracks from Yumi Zouma, Gabrielle Aplin, Tommy, Astronomyy, Kid Froopy, Norda and Jack Eye Jones, who becomes the fourth Jones to chart this year following Jax, Joanna, and R&B singer JONES. Elsehwere in the chart, Wild Thoughts extends its run for a record-breaking 11th consecutive week, a real outlier in my fast-moving charts.

All new entries will be getting their own wee write-up and some video links to save you scrabbling to find them online yourselves. (And to make this thread more fun!) Those will be up a bit later in the week, I'll update the thread title accordingly. For now, here's the top 40 in full for this first week of September 2017!

This week's chart in general trends more towards indie and adult contemporary music than my charts have of late, which is a nice change honestly, 2017 has been a very mixed year again on the pop front I feel, especially with juggernaut releases from Ed, Bieber and now Taylor hogging the spotlight. Fluke UK #1 Wild Thoughts is probably my one exception to that rule; this week it extends for me its run to a record-breaking 11th consecutive week, and may still grab another next week. Here's hoping Rihanna brings us more of the same with R9.

As for new entries this week, the top of the chart brings a few prominent ones from slightly older or more well-established acts. The XX follow up two #1s and a top 5 already from latest album I See You with a belated new entry this week for I Dare You, zooming right in at #9. IDY is the band's most recent single, but was lapped in my chart by re-release bonus track Seasons Run which topped my chart earlier this year over the summer. MNDR (of Mark Ronson's Bang Bang Bang), Kimbra (of Somebody That I Used to Know fame) and Emeli Sande are new entries as featured acts just within the top 20, taking this week's 14-16 spots. Of the three, it's actually Kimbra that's had the most previous chart success for me, if partly due to when I started these, having notched up three previous solo hits and two spots as a featured artist. This is unfortunately the first track Sande's managed to land for me since her lowkey comeback, but better late than never.

A re-entry and re-peak this week occurs for Emily Zeck at #18. Normally I wouldn't feature a re-entry, but as she'll be flying the flag for Jupiterdonia in BJSC99, I figured an extra plug here wouldn't go amiss.

Right down at the bottom now for more new entries. I'll split this into acts established on my charts and acts for whom this is a brand new start, as there's no real more obvious way to do it. Gabby Aplin up first, charting a new song and another new direction after her indie-pop reinvention, Birdy-style, from being a sweet soundtracky balladeer. Waking Up Slow follows Aplin's #2-peaking Miss You from earlier this year. This week's #35 sees the return of Astronomyy alongside new face Alayna. The group have managed a few top tens for me before, most recently The Secret from 2016, and notably co-produced Zara Larsson and MNEK's Never Forget You. Kid Froopy's new entry this week is the second song in the chart with Dream in the title, and follows the producer's 2016 bb (four missed texts), which peaked at a similar position. Gypsy (Catch Me If You Can) is the most recent BJSC winner, and although Norda and Mike de Ville are new to me, it's a comeback for Joanna Jones, who previously attained a top 20 alongside producer Unlike Pluto.

And we close this week with the more unknowns, with debuts from Tommy and Yumi Zouma, the latter having been on my radar for a while but never before managing a charting track. All three are indie-into-hipster synthy chill tracks, and so work together quite nicely. Jack Eye Jones is, unfortunately, unavailable for now outside of spotify.

And that's the week! As ever, your comments and thoughts are super welcome as I like reading them biggrin.gif

Hey Jupiter

Not all that fussed on the new C&S track, likewise their album, I just think I'm not all that big on their sound anymore unlike their past few albums!

Fave NE is definitely Gypsy, glad that was a BJSC winner, one of the better ones of 2017 smile.gif

Thanks Dobbo!

Other way round for me on C&S, this is more generic, but at least it's consistent, and Emeli gets a chance to return to her d&b roots on the new track instead of veering into Adele-lite territory. (perhaps ironic given her real name is also Adele)

I'm with you on Gypsy though - and the video just makes it even better!
