Just listening to the third round of the Open here on 5 live and rte radio and it frustrated me surely the Open should be free to air like Wimbledon last weekend?

What events should be and should they enforce it?

Channel 4 were given the cricket World Cup final by Sky last week and what did they do? They shoved about four hours of it onto More4. I don't think any of the main five free channels want to show anything that lasts more than a couple of hours. BBC are making lots of cutbacks so they can't afford to show the golf open. They've still been showing the athletics on BBC1 and the netball on BBC2 this afternoon so I don't know where they would have put it if they had it. Unfortunately over the last 20 years, sport has become money obsessed with huge wages and large amounts of prize money so the days of all the major events being free to air are over.

Far too much money involved in sport rights now.

Something like happened last weekend with the World Cup final in cricket could be arranged where the big companies could show all the stages before and then it could be shared with BBC/itv.

Don't think the Masters should be free to air but certainly the Open as it's traditional to this country for example.

BUMP

What sport events do you think should remain in free-to-air TV and why?

The Giro d'Italia!

That is, if it wasn't postponed...
