Hi everyone. Here is the thread for the debut country, Herzebania. A little background. With a population of 15.7 million, Herzebania has 3 main areas: Woodham, the English speaking colony; Ducia, the Spanish speaking colony; and the slightly smaller province of Bullsch, who have their own dialect, Bulltish, but mainly speak English.

Herzebanian television has been taking its debut very seriously, and has been scouring the net for the best new talent there is, and the national final, taking place at the beginning of May, will consist of 4 invited artists, with the winner voted by a 50/50 split of regional televotes and regional juries.

The Herzebanian national final will be a star-studded affair, with 2 former BJSC winners already signed up to perform, and more names to come!

The details are still being finalised, but watch out for the names of the 4 artists and their songs coming soon, as well as more details of special guest performers!

Oh the pressure....remember Azerbaijan had a big final for their debut this year, and look what we ended up with!

But I will endeavour to bring an entry of quality and sophistication to the Contest! thumbup.gif

It's looking like it will be a diverse national final, with a wide variety of styles between the 4 songs! I'm just finalising the entries now.

Herzebanian television has officially picked the 4 competitors for its first entry. It has taken a leaf out of Melodifestivalen's book and chosen only to reveal the song titles and writers at this time. Profiles of the artists will be up at a later date.

The 4 songs in alphabetical order are:
Boyfriend Material (Nolan / Scott)
Creatures (Jones / Jones)
Down (Stevenson)
They Say It's Wonderful (Berlin)

Herzebania are new to the Contest and the national broadcaster is not sure whether people vote with their ears, or by reading the names of the artists.....but it hopes it is the former and is picking its first entry on that basis thumbup.gif

I'm guessing when I won BJSC4 with Love Song by Sara Bareilles, nobody else had heard of the song or the artist, so they must vote with their ears as opposed to the name of the artist tongue.gif

look forward to hearing these songs!

The first act has been unveiled for Wednesday's national final in Herzebania!

Sparks Fly

Rory, Scott, Chris, Steve and Raymie are an unsigned band who were approached by HbTV talent scouts while playing the pub circuit. A popular act in Woodham and also well known in Ducia, Sparks Fly are an indie group influenced by such bands as Arcade Fire, Foo Fighters and Kings Of Leon. Their entry "Creatures" is a catchy rock song and they hope to "bring something different" to the Buzzjack Song Contest and show their music to a wider audience.

Laura Stevenson

Another act in growing popularity throughout Herzebania is singer-songwriter, Laura Stevenson. She wears her heart on her sleave in her songs, and her beautiful haunting voice is considered one of the best in the country. Her favourite artists are Sarah McLachlan and Sheryl Crow, and she picked the song "Down" to sing at the national final herself, feeling it would be the most suitable song to enter the BJSC with. She's looking forward to having fun in the national final, and having a good time in Eledan should she make it through.

EDIT: Interesting fact - Laura Stevenson has performed with Quotosibb's representative, Beverly Knight before!

Diggy and Cussons

The latest internet sensation in Herzebania, here is an act whose rumoured participation has already caused much publicity. Hailing from the Bullsch region of the country, many figures in the entertainment industry and government are outraged that Diggy and Cussons are putting themselves forward, and insist that Herzebania will be seen as a laughing stock should they be its debut entry. The electronic / experimental band themselves however, insist they are not entering as a joke, and say that their entry, Boyfriend Material, has what it takes to go far in the competition.

Siobhan Pettit

The final act to be participating on Wednesday will be jazz / easy-listening singer Siobhan Pettit. Known for her sweet voice and popular interpretations of evergreen jazz numbers, Siobhan is looking forward to bringing yet more variety to the national final. She has chosen to put forward "They Say It's Wonderful" originally from 1946 movie "Annie Get Your Gun" (and featured in Spiderman 3) as her entry, which she will be singing as a duet with Australian singer Candy Devine. She hopes she can bring a "feelgood factor" to the national final, and that people enjoy hearing her and Candy sing.

So those are the entries! You'll have to wait until Wednesday's national final to hear them though!

The provisional running order is:

1. Sparks Fly - Creatures
2. Laura Stevenson - Down
3. Diggy and Cussons - Boyfriend Material
4. Siobhan Pettit feat. Candy Devine - They Say It's Wonderful

I think you'll agree, a very varied national final!!

HbTV is completing talks with other countries and acts, and will be able to reveal details about special guest appearances on the debut national final very soon!

Serebro back Laura Stevenson for Herzebania

Ahead of their performance in the Herzebanian capital on Wednesday, Serebro have revealed in a press conference after their opening date at Bokitown that they're backing Laura Stevenson to represent Herzebania in Eledan in May. Elena Temenikova, the lead singer of Serebro was reported as saying, "Laura Stevenson's music has really inspired us over the past few days since we discovered her, and we're very much looking forward to meeting her on Wednesday and performing with her. We'd love it if Laura won the national final!". Serebro are currently in Quotosibb preparing for their concert in Siobah tomorrow before their performance live on the Herzebanian national final on Wednesday. Laura Stevenson is currently 2nd favourite to represent Herzebania on odds of 6/1 behind the universally polarising Diggy and Cussons who are on 5/2.

Much press coverage about the national final today. Some websites covering the imminant arrival of Serebro and tATu to Herzebania, others reviewing the 4 artists.

Most, however, focus on the controversy caused by Diggy and Cussons. Some columnists find it highly amusing that they could be the country's first BJSC act, and much of the Bullsch region, where they are from, are backing them, as well as several radio personalities. Others aren't so amused, including the minister for culture, and fellow finalist Siobhan Pettit, who will be singing "They Say It's Wonderful" with Candy Devine.

She is calling their entry "a joke" and embarrassing to the other 3 entries, who really want the gig. She is backing Laura Stevenson to win, and has heaped praise on her voice.
