Avicii featuring Aloe Blacc
SOS

1st single from TIM
Released: 10th April 2019
Label: Avicii Recordings

In his short time as a professional DJ/producer, Avicii, a.k.a. Sweden’s Tim Bergling, did more for the commingling of dance music with other genres than anyone before him. He essentially reenvisioned EDM as a place where booming 4/4 beats and neon synths could be worked into the songwriting structures of soul, bluegrass, and country—and end up not sounding like EDM at all. Once you got over the initial shock, the uplifting melodies made it all feel pretty natural. Before his suicide in 2018, Avicii had completed roughly 75 to 80 percent of the tracks that will make up his forthcoming posthumous LP, Tim, overseen by producers and songwriters Carl Falk, Albin Nedler, and Kristoffer Fogelmark. Its first single, “SOS,” moves in a similar direction as the folksy vibe of 2017’s Avīci (01) EP. It’s a dance-pop tune, sure—with gentle nods to Balearic beat and a bit of New Wave—but its laid-back ’80s soft-rock rhythm and rich vocals from Aloe Blacc, who helped announce Bergling’s arrival on 2013’s “Wake Me Up,” give it that unique Avicii touch, pulling from a manner of styles but still hewing to something you can spend a night on a beach dancing to. Then there’s the lyrics, which recount someone trading their drugs for the euphoric promise of a new love, and which open with a shot that invites all kinds of interpretation: “Can you hear me?/S.O.S./Help me put my mind to rest.” - iTunes

Biography

Tim Bergling (Swedish: [tɪm ²bærjlɪŋ]; 8 September 1989 – 20 April 2018), known professionally as Avicii (/əˈviːtʃi/, Swedish: [aˈvɪtːɕɪ]), was a Swedish electronic musician, DJ, and songwriter, who specialized in audio programming, remixing and record producing.

At the age of 16, Bergling began posting his remixes on electronic music forums, which led to his first record deal. He rose to prominence in 2011 with his single "Levels". His debut studio album, True (2013), blended electronic music with elements of multiple genres and received generally positive reviews. It peaked in the top ten in more than fifteen countries and topped international dance charts; the lead single, "Wake Me Up", topped most music markets in Europe and reached number four in the United States.

In 2015, Bergling released his second studio album, Stories, and in 2017 he released an EP, Avīci (01). His catalog also included the singles "I Could Be the One" with Nicky Romero, "You Make Me", "X You", "Hey Brother", "Addicted to You", "The Days", "The Nights", "Waiting for Love", "Without You" and "Lonely Together". Bergling was nominated for a Grammy Award for his work on "Sunshine" with David Guetta in 2012 and "Levels" in 2013. Several music publications credit Bergling as among the DJs who ushered electronic music into Top 40 radio in the early 2010s.

Bergling retired from touring in 2016 due to health problems, having suffered stress and poor mental health for several years. On 20 April 2018, Bergling committed suicide in Muscat, Oman. He was buried on 8 June in his hometown of Stockholm. His posthumous third album titled Tim has been announced for release in 2019.

Biography

Chris Brown arrived in the mid-2000s as a squeaky-clean teen R&B artist with "Run It!," the first debut single by a male artist to top the Billboard Hot 100 in over a decade. While there was nowhere to go but down, at least in terms of chart positions, the singer and occasional rapper was only getting started, despite the swift decline of his wholesome image. By the end of the decade, he was one of the biggest active pop stars, with a clutch of Top Ten singles and platinum albums to his credit, along with constant comparisons to a young Michael Jackson and several acting roles on the side. His momentum slowed little despite pleading guilty to assaulting girlfriend Rihanna in 2009. His commercial clout remained, as his successive albums into the next decade topped the Billboard all-genre and R&B charts.

Brown came from a small Virginia town called Tappahannock. Like a lot of kids born in the mid- to late '80s, he was initially into his parents' favorite music but eventually fell under the spell of hip-hop. Around the time he reached puberty, he discovered his singing ability and switched his focus away from MC'ing. A move to New York led to being discovered by Tina Davis, a Def Jam A&R executive who became the singer's manager shortly after losing her position in the Sony-BMG merger. The Jive label, due in part to its track record with younger artists who had established longevity (like Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake), won the bidding war for Brown and lined up several production and songwriting heavyweights, including Jermaine Dupri, Bryan-Michael Cox, Dre & Vidal, Sean Garrett, and Storch, for his self-titled first album. An immediate Top Ten hit when it was released in 2005, Chris Brown not only featured the number one "Run It!" but two other Top Ten singles in "Yo (Excuse Me Miss)" and "Say Goodbye." Exclusive, released in 2007 and a bit of a departure from the squeaky-clean image he displayed throughout his debut, was even more successful, featuring the number one single "Kiss Kiss" and two other Top Five hits. Yet another Top Five hit came with "No Air," a duet with Jordin Sparks that appeared on Sparks' own self-titled album.

In March 2009, Brown was charged with felonious assault of Rihanna -- an altercation that had prevented his then-girlfriend from taking the stage at the Grammy Awards. Brown was scheduled to perform as well, but he did not appear and maintained a low profile for several months. A fairly substantial backlash resulted in Brown's songs being pulled from rotation on several radio stations. Ultimately, however, it had little bearing on the progress of his music and acting careers; the week prior to the December release of his third album, Graffiti, the single "I Can Transform Ya" was well on its way to reaching the Top 20 of the Hot 100, and his acting roles -- which had already included spots in Stomp the Yard and a recurring role on The O.C. -- hadn't shown any sign of drying up. Graffiti fell considerably short of gold-selling status, but it was nominated for a Grammy Award in the category of Best Contemporary R&B Album, and the Tank collaboration, "Take My Time," was nominated for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.

Weeks after the 2011 Grammy Awards ceremony, Brown released his fourth album, F.A.M.E., which already had four singles on the charts. That album topped the Billboard 200 and the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop charts, and it also took the 2012 Grammy for Best R&B Album. During the ceremony, he performed a medley of "Beautiful People" (off F.A.M.E.) and "Turn Up the Music," the latter of which previewed Fortune, his fifth album, released in May 2012 and an immediate chart-topper in the U.S. Brown toured Asia, Europe, and Africa during the rest of the year, and prepped his sixth album. A sequence of several singles that began with "Fine China" preceded X, released in September 2014, two weeks after he pleaded guilty to simple assault (for an altercation with a man that had occurred the previous October). Less inspired by European dance-pop and more R&B-oriented than his previous release, the album included contributions from Lil Wayne, R. Kelly, Usher, Rick Ross, and Brandy, among many others. Four of its singles peaked within the R&B Top 10. Only five months after the release of X, Brown and Tyga, who had previously teamed up for one of those singles -- "Loyal," as well as the earlier "Deuces" -- teamed up for Fan of a Fan: The Album. By the end of 2015, Brown released Royalty, his seventh proper album, which was propped up by the Top 20 pop hit "Back to Sleep." The following year, Brown issued singles such as "Grass Ain't Greener" and "Party" as preludes to the 45-track Heartbreak on a Full Moon, released in October 2017. The following year, Brown appeared on a handful of high-profile collaborative singles including "Stranger Things" with Joyner Lucas, "Freaky Friday" with Lil Dicky, and "Overdose" with Agnez Mo. He returned to his solo work with 2019's "Undecided."

Lil Nas X
Old Town Road

1st single from 7
Released: 3rd December 2018
Label: Columbia Records

The TikTok-spawned phenomenon marries Brothers Osborne and Travis Scott for a country-trap bop fit for Stagecoach and Rolling Loud. “Old Town Road” arrives on the spurs of the video game Red Dead Redemption 2 (which the video directly references), colliding with hip-hop culture and genre-adjacent memes throughout the saloon-ready tune. Lil Nas X showcases a rumbling yet buttery vocal delivery and pairs it with cheeky lyrics that play into the tropes of contemporary hip-hop. - iTunes

Biography

Scottish singer/songwriter Lewis Capaldi began creating a buzz in early 2017 with the release of his debut single, "Bruises," a brooding exploration of a failed relationship that introduced his intimate piano and vocal sound. On the strength of his lone single, the Bathgate native sold out legendary Glasgow club King Tut's and notched millions of streams before dropping his follow-up single, the equally stark "Lost on You," later that summer. After signing with Virgin Records, Capaldi included both songs on his debut EP, Bloom, and capped off his banner year with a Scottish Music Award for Breakthrough Artist of the Year. The front half of 2018 was spent touring in North America and Europe in advance of his next single, "Rush," featuring Jessie Reyez. "Tough" followed a few months later. - iTunes

Climbing out of the underground grime scene, he made his breakthrough in 2017 with his platinum-certified, chart-topping debut, Gang Signs & Prayer. Within half a decade of the release of his debut EP, he was a Glastonbury festival headliner. Born Michael Ebenazer Kwadjo Omari Owuo Jr. in the south London town of Croyden, he launched his career clashing at youth clubs around his hometown. His performances evolved from grime-only music that showed a love of artists like Skepta to more rap-oriented material that reflected Stormzy's growing appreciation for artists like Drake. Late in 2013 he began uploading his "Wicked Skengman" series of freestyles over classic grime beats; in 2014, he made his official debut with the EP Dreamers Disease. A year later he released the single "Know Me From" along with "WickedSkengMan 4," the first track in his "WickedSkengMan" freestyle series and a Top 20 hit in the U.K. That December, Stormzy performed the single's B-side, "Shut Up," at a match between heavyweight boxers Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte. The song jumped into the Top 40 following the broadcast, and the rapper launched a campaign to have the song top the charts during Christmas. This boosted the track to the number eight position, and the number one position on the R&B singles chart. Before returning to the studio to record his first LP, he released non-album single "Scary" in the spring of 2016. Stormzy returned in 2017 with his official full-length debut Gang Signs & Prayer (#Merky Records), which featured the platinum single "Big for Your Boots," "Cigarettes & Cush" with Kehlani, and "Blinded by Your Grace, Pt. 2" with MNEK. The critically-lauded set debuted atop the U.K. albums chart and was soon certified platinum. In 2018, the album took home the prize for British Album of the Year and Stormzy was crowned British Male Solo Artist of the Year at the annual Brit Awards.

Riding the wave of acclaim, he was announced as one of the headliners at 2019's Glastonbury Festival. That year, he also scored his first number one single in the U.K. with "Vossi Bop."

Biography

Shawn Mendes
A pop singer/songwriter who broke records with his debut single, Shawn Mendes was born and raised in Toronto. After posting a series of his cover versions to various video-sharing sites, Mendes earned a dedicated following of viewers. His mix of Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber's styles also appealed to Island Records, who signed Mendes in 2014. That same year they released the then-15-year-old's debut single, "Life of the Party." American radio initially ignored it, but the track entered the Billboard 100 singles chart at number 24, making Mendes the youngest artist to land a debut single in the Top 25. The song was also included on Mendes' four-track Island debut, The Shawn Mendes EP. The EP performed well, reaching number five on the Billboard charts on its way toward sales of over 100,000, setting the stage for his full-length debut, 2015's Handwritten.

Preceded by the single "Something Big," Handwritten appeared to strong sales, debuting at number one in both Canada and the U.S. The single "Stitches," which was released that April, became one of Mendes' biggest hits, reaching the Top Ten in the U.S. and Canada and topping the charts in the U.K. and Germany. In addition, his single "Believe" landed on the soundtrack for the Disney Channel fantasy musical Descendants. While opening for Taylor Swift on the North American dates of her 1989 World Tour, Mendes and Fifth Harmony's Camila Cabello collaborated on the song "I Know What You Did Last Summer," which appeared on the deluxe version of Handwritten that was released in November 2015; the song reached the Top 20 on the U.S. and Canadian Hot 100 charts.

The Top Ten single "Treat You Better" preceded Mendes' second album, Illuminate, which was recorded in upstate New York and arrived in September 2016. Illuminate, which featured co-songwriting contributions from Teddy Geiger and Scott Harris, debuted at number one in the U.S. and Canada, where it also achieved platinum status. It was quickly followed in December by the digital-only Live at Madison Square Garden. Mendes launched a massive world tour in the spring of 2017 and notched another Top Ten single in "There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back." Around this time, he also delivered a live acoustic session for MTV Unplugged.

In April of 2018, Shawn performed the single "In My Blood" at a concert for Queen Elizabeth II's 92nd birthday at the Royal Albert Hall in London. The track lyrically explored Mendes' struggles with anxiety disorder and was later released as the lead single for his eponymous third full-length which arrived in May of that year. The album, Shawn Mendes, which also featured collaborations with Teddy Geiger, debuted at number one on the Billboard 200.

Camila Cabello
Karla Camila Cabello Estrabao (/kəˈmiːlə kəˈbeɪoʊ/; Spanish: [kaˈmila kaˈβeʎo]; born March 3, 1997) is a Cuban-American singer and songwriter. She rose to prominence as a member of the girl group Fifth Harmony, formed on The X Factor (U.S.) in 2012, signing a joint record deal with Syco Music and Epic Records.

While a part of Fifth Harmony, Cabello began to establish herself as a solo artist with the release of the collaborations "I Know What You Did Last Summer" with Shawn Mendes, and "Bad Things" with Machine Gun Kelly, the latter reaching number four on the Billboard Hot 100 U.S chart. After leaving the group in December 2016, Cabello released several other collaborations, including "Hey Ma" with Pitbull and J Balvin for The Fate of the Furious soundtrack.

Her debut solo single "Crying in the Club" was released in May 2017, and peaked at number 47 in the U.S. Refocusing her sound to Latin-influenced music thereafter, her debut studio album Camila (2018) debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, with its lead single "Havana" topping the charts in several countries, including the UK and the U.S. The second single "Never Be the Same" also reached the top 10 in several countries.

Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber
I Don't Care

1st single from No.6 Collaborations Project
Released: 10th May 2019
Label: Warner Music UK / Def Jam Recordings

Four years after Ed Sheeran cowrote Justin Bieber’s breakup anthem “Love Yourself,” the pair have had a change of heart: On “I Don’t Care,” they serenade their significant others in head-over-heels fashion. Bieber sings lead on much of the song, with lyrics that seemingly touch on some of his very public struggles with depression: “With all these people all around I'm crippled with anxiety/I can deal with the bad nights/When I'm with my baby.” Nonetheless, the breezy beat, featuring rhythmic nods to dancehall à la Ed’s “Shape of You,” helps keeps the mood bright. Let the battle for song of the summer begin. - iTunes

His third studio album, Believe (2012) generated the single "Boyfriend", which reached number one in Canada. His fourth studio album Purpose was released in 2015, spawning three number one singles: "What Do You Mean?", "Sorry", and "Love Yourself". Afterwards, Bieber was featured on several successful collaborations, including "Cold Water", "Let Me Love You", "Despacito (Remix)", and "I'm the One". His US album and singles sales total 44.7 million. He has sold an estimated 150 million records, making him one of the world's best-selling music artists, and became the second person to reach 100 million followers on Twitter in August 2017 after Katy Perry.

Bieber has won numerous awards throughout his career, including an American Music Award for Artist of the Year in 2010 and 2012, a Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording for the song "Where Are Ü Now", and a Latin Grammy Award. He has been listed three times by Forbes magazine among the top ten most powerful celebrities in the world, in 2011, 2012, and 2013. In 2016, Bieber became the first artist to surpass 10 billion total video views on Vevo.

Biography

Edward Christopher Sheeran, MBE (/ˈʃɪərən/; born 17 February 1991) is an English singer, songwriter, guitarist, record producer, and actor. He attended the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford as an undergraduate from the age of 18 in 2009. In early 2011, Sheeran independently released the extended play, No. 5 Collaborations Project. After signing with Asylum Records, his debut album, + (pronounced "plus"), was released in September 2011. It topped the UK and Australian charts, reached number five in the US, and has since been certified seven-times platinum in the UK. The album contains the single "The A Team", which earned him the Ivor Novello Award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically. In 2012, Sheeran won the Brit Awards for Best British Male Solo Artist and British Breakthrough Act. "The A Team" was nominated for Song of the Year at the 2013 Grammy Awards, where he performed the song with Elton John.

His second studio album, x (pronounced "multiply"), was released in June 2014. It peaked at number one in the UK and the US. In 2015, x won the Brit Award for Album of the Year, and he received the Ivor Novello Award for Songwriter of the Year from the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors. His single from x, "Thinking Out Loud", earned him two Grammy Awards at the 2016 ceremony: Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance. In May 2016, x was named the second-best-selling album worldwide of 2015.

Sheeran's third album, ÷ (pronounced "divide"), was released in March 2017. The album debuted at number one in the UK, the US and other major markets. The first two singles from the album, "Shape of You" and "Castle on the Hill", were released in January 2017 and broke records in a number of countries, including the UK, Australia and Germany, by debuting in the top two positions of the charts. He also became the first artist to have two songs debut in the US top 10 in the same week. By March 2017, Sheeran had accumulated ten top 10 singles from ÷ on the UK Singles Chart, breaking the record for most top 10 UK singles from one album. His fourth single from ÷, "Perfect", reached number one in the US, Australia and the UK, where it became the Christmas number one in 2017. In April 2018, ÷ was named the best-selling album worldwide of 2017.

Sheeran has sold more than 150 million records worldwide, making him one of the world's best-selling music artists. Two of his albums are in the list of the best-selling albums in UK chart history: x at number 20, and ÷ at number 34. An alumnus of the National Youth Theatre in London, as an actor Sheeran has portrayed a recurring role on The bast*rd Executioner, and in 2019, he will appear in the Richard Curtis/Danny Boyle film Yesterday.

Biography

Ellie Goulding
Elena Jane Goulding (/ˈɡoʊldɪŋ/ GOHL-ding; born 30 December 1986) is an English singer and songwriter. Her career began when she met record producers Starsmith and Frankmusik, and she was later spotted by Jamie Lillywhite, who later became her manager and A&R. After signing to Polydor Records in July 2009, Goulding released her debut extended play, An Introduction to Ellie Goulding later that year.

In 2010, she became the second artist to top the BBC's annual Sound of... poll and win the Critics' Choice Award at the Brit Awards in the same year. She released her debut studio album, Lights, in 2010; it debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart and has sold over 850,000 copies in the United Kingdom. In November 2010, the album was reissued as Bright Lights, which spawned two singles: a cover of Elton John's "Your Song" which was selected for the first John Lewis Christmas advert, reached number two on the UK Singles Chart, and "Lights", which became Goulding's highest-charting single on the US Billboard Hot 100 to date, peaking at number two.

Goulding's second studio album, Halcyon, was released in October 2012. "Anything Could Happen" preceded the album as the lead single. The album debuted at number two on the UK Albums Chart, and after 65 weeks, it reached number one. Halcyon debuted at number nine on the US Billboard 200. Halcyon Days, a repackaged edition of Halcyon, was released in August 2013, generating singles, such as "Burn", which became her first number-one single in the UK. At the 2014 Brit Awards, she received the award for British Female Solo Artist. Goulding released her third studio album, titled Delirium, on 6 November 2015, with "On My Mind" as the album's lead single. In December 2015, she received her first Grammy Award nomination for Best Pop Solo Performance for her single "Love Me like You Do".

Juice WRLD
Chicago-area hip-hop musician Juice WRLD delivers introspective lyrics atop melodic production, echoing Travis Scott and Post Malone. His style reflected a wide range of influences, blending R&B instrumentation, dreamy beats, and even indie rock melodicism into a heady, emotional amalgam on his heartsick 2018 debut Goodbye & Good Riddance. Born Jarad Higgins in 1998, the Calumet Park artist grew up playing piano, drums, and guitar, turning to rap freestyling in high school. Influenced by rock music and Chicago drill from Lil Durk and Chief Keef, Higgins began recording as Juice TheKidd, a moniker derived from his haircut, which resembled 2Pac's in the film Juice. His early tracks were all posted online, leading up to 2017's Juice WLRD 999 EP. Produced by Nick Mira and Sidepce, the set included the singles "Lucid Dreams (Forget Me)" and "All Girls Are the Same." Both tracks would also land on his official debut full-length, Goodbye & Good Riddance (Interscope), which peaked at number 15 on the Billboard 200 upon release in May 2018. January 2019 saw Higgins issue the single "Robbery" ahead of the arrival of the full-length A Death Race for Love, which was released later that March. - iTunes

Dominic Fike
3 Nights

1st single from Don't Forget About Me, Demos
Released: 16th October 2018
Label: Sandy Boys

Video

Biography

[i]By combining elements of alternative hip-hop with Jack Johnson-esque cabana pop on early demos, Naples, Florida's Dominic Fike went from unknown to major-label signee in 2018. His debut EP, Don't Forget About Me, Demos, arrived later the same year.

After some demos emerged in 2017, Fike, then in his early twenties, was well covered in the music press for signing a multi-million-dollar deal with Sandy Boys and Columbia Records before even releasing a song. They put out the reworked Don't Forget About Me, Demos in mid-October 2018.

I used to work with a guy called Demos. I don't know whether he's forgotten Dominic Fike though.
