It's not always down to the artist. As soon as I hear anything, I will post straight away

Yes Darius should definitely make and release a new album, he has been away from releasing music for too long! Its sad how small his discography is.

I think the intention is genuine enough. My impression is that Darius is very much his own man and doesn't want to go back to being manipulated by a record company.
Also, his music has always been from his heart and deeply personal. I suspect many viable songs would stem from his long term relationship with Natasha Henstridge and her two sons. Maybe it's just too difficult for him to share those and he'll need to write new ones. He's also a bit of a perfectionist so will always be prone to tinkering with or scrapping perfectly good songs, better perhaps than many which do grace our charts. Darius's voice is as good if not better now.,so his real fans will wait as long as it takes. Funny Girl took an unexpected two years and that's pushed back the momentum of his nascent film production career with 3 films at various stages demanding his focus now. No idea of the working title but the one starring Orlando Bloom and directed by Mike Figgis is ready for filming now. This post has been edited by Baytree: Aug 18 2017, 06:54 AM |

I am sure he could release his album independently if he chooses to do so. His first single from it would have the potential of getting good airplay from Heart/Radio 2 etc. |

That's true.
He should just do it. He should just put out the twelve or so new songs we've been privileged to hear.... just as they are. His fans don't need beautiful production. His voice and his guitar are the only instruments he needs. Who has the influence to convince him though? Maybe Martine McCutcheon's new album after 17 years will show Darius it's never too late to make new music. If he's not prepared to work to make it happen in the very near future, he should stop talking about it. |

Like I said I believe his intention is genuine and he's looking for a 6 months or so window of opportunity to do it whereas I don't think that's absolutely necessary. His fans just want him to sing his own songs. I suppose he's like everyone else with a to do list. The actionable now items keep pushing other things down it. Could any sane actor/singer have turned down a lead opposite Sheridan Smith in a musical which hadn't been performed in London for 50 years? 8 shows a week and doing the majority of the radio, TV and press promotion was contractually obligated. He'd already committed to the films beforehand. |

He did say he intended to. I just hope, with 3 films for him to consider, he finds the time soon. I've a feeling some songs are already written.

Could he be persuaded to put out an E. P.? I'm sure some artists still do.

Do you think if Darius did an album it would be pop, opera or musicals based (although looking him up on youtube, he also did a stint of big band/swing stuff too)?

The first big band song Darius sang after he'd left Pop Idol was I've Got You Under My Skin which was a encore on the Dive In set.
The next swing type song was one called Devil In You on the Live Twice album. I was convinced it was a cover version and thought it weird that he would have just one on an album of original songs. So starting searching for the lyrics to pinpoint its source and came up empty-handed. It was an original Darius song. We found out much later that it was about Natasha Henstridge. Then came West End -, Chicago as the youngest guy ever to play Billy Flynn there or on Broadway, Chicago again, Guys and Dolls, Gone With The Wind. When Darius returned to LA. he researched the History of the Big Bands right up to seeking out the original manuscripts of the arrangements they used, with the aim of putting together as authentic a show as he could and touring it.He wrote it, helped to audition the musicians and co-produced it. He also wrote a couple of new songs in that genre. He toured the UK with it in the autumn of 2010, after earlier participating in Popstars To Operastars, which he won and recovering from breaking his neck in a car crash in Spain. He can sing swing very well and it probably helped clinch From here To Eternity and Funny Girl for him. However, I fervently hope he gets it out of his system and that the musical style on a new album will be whatever best suits each original Darius song on it. |

This was the first time for quite a while he has actually said anything about the album, so I'm hopeful. I'll just keep a watch for if anything else happens

Talk about it when demos are ready.
Talk about when the decision is made about which producers on which side of the Atlantic you intend to work with. Talk about it when studio recordings start.. Get some samples out somewhere. Talk about the design etc. Arrange distribution. Tell the world. Make an official TBA notification even if there isn't a long enough break in the schedule. Just COMMUNICATE instead of total lock down citing commercial sensitivity and contractual confidence. How? Use Twitter, start to use the dormant Facebook page and Instagram, keep in touch with all the media contacts renewed or made over the past two years. If Darius can produce a Hollywood movie, he's capable of making plans and ensuring they happen despite obstacles. |

Yes. Darius has a big bunch of them, including a virtually completed album he recorded in London and LA probably in 2012 or 2013. I guess From Here To Eternity and the chance to work with Tim Rice put paid to that.
We've heard a few because he put up 3 demos on the Darius forums. They were recognisably Darius in the vein of the n-singles and b-sides. They definitely had the potential to be solid album tracks or hits depending on the production. I used to have them and another song he wrote as a teenager on my computer. What he's done with them I don't know. I don't know if they're written under his own name. |

I think he should do a deep house album, that genre is popular this decade and considered cool and he certainly has the deep voice to go with the genre!
